Coloplast told investors on 2 November 2026 that the world advanced dressings market is "estimated at DKK 34-36 billion, growing 2-4%", and that its own Advanced Wound Dressings posted 2% organic growth in the year to 30 September 2026, its [2025/26 earnings release](https://www.coloplast.com/siteassets/investors/latest-results/q3-20252026/11_2026_fy_2025_26_earnings_release.pdf) shows; two days later Smith+Nephew reported USD 200 million of Advanced Wound Care revenue for the quarter to 26 September 2026, up 1.2% underlying, in its [third-quarter 2026 trading update](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0). The advanced medical dressings market covers moist-wound-healing dressings sold to hospitals, nursing homes, community nurses and patients worldwide: foam and silicone foam, antimicrobial, alginate and gelling fibre, hydrocolloid, film and transparent, hydrogel and collagen dressings. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 6.10 billion in 2025, about 2.65 billion dressings at an average USD 2.30 each at manufacturer prices, and at USD 8.62 billion in 2035, a 3.52% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The study is a product row of our [Wound Care Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/wound-care-market/) model and sits beside the [Wound Debridement Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/wound-debridement-market/), [Medical Adhesive Transfer Tapes Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/medical-adhesive-transfer-tapes-market/) and [Collagen Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/collagen-market/) reports; every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which advanced medical dressing earns the most: foam, antimicrobial or gelling fibre?

Foam and silicone foam dressings earn the most, 32.0% of 2025 advanced medical dressing value or about USD 1.95 billion, Douglas Insights estimates. Collagen and other bioactive dressings grow fastest, at 4.40% a year to 2035.

| Dressing type | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Foam and silicone foam | 32.0% | USD 1.95 billion | 3.90% | USD 2.86 billion |
| Antimicrobial (silver, iodine, PHMB, honey) | 22.0% | USD 1.34 billion | 4.00% | USD 1.98 billion |
| Alginate and gelling fibre | 15.0% | USD 914 million | 3.60% | USD 1.30 billion |
| Hydrocolloid | 11.0% | USD 671 million | 1.60% | USD 786 million |
| Film and transparent | 9.0% | USD 549 million | 2.60% | USD 709 million |
| Collagen and other bioactive | 6.0% | USD 366 million | 4.40% | USD 563 million |
| Hydrogel | 5.0% | USD 305 million | 2.40% | USD 386 million |

Foam leads because a bordered silicone foam is the default dressing for pressure injuries, venous leg ulcers and post-operative wounds in most hospital formularies, and it is priced at two to four times a gauze pad. Smith+Nephew said its five-layer ALLEVYN Complete Care foam "is delivering strong growth in the US" in its [4 November 2026 update](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0), and Coloplast named Biatain Superabsorber as "the main growth contributor" in its [2 November 2026 release](https://www.coloplast.com/siteassets/investors/latest-results/q3-20252026/11_2026_fy_2025_26_earnings_release.pdf). At 3.90% a year, foam reaches USD 2.86 billion by 2035, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Antimicrobial dressings, USD 1.34 billion, grow 4.00% as infection prevention moves earlier in the care pathway; Convatec said Aquacel Ag+ Extra, "our leading antimicrobial product, continued to deliver good growth" in its [2025 results of 24 February 2026](https://www.convatecgroup.com/siteassets/investors/convatec-fy25-results-press-release.pdf). Alginate and gelling fibre dressings, USD 914 million, grow 3.60%. Hydrocolloids, USD 671 million, grow slowest at 1.60% because silicone foams take their pressure-injury and ulcer share. Film and transparent dressings, USD 549 million, grow 2.60% on catheter-site and surgical use. Collagen and other bioactive dressings, USD 366 million, grow 4.40% as clinicians step back from costly skin substitutes. Hydrogels, USD 305 million, grow 2.40%. Values for 2035 sum to USD 8.59 billion, 0.30% below the headline.

## Which wounds use the most advanced dressings: chronic ulcers, surgical sites or burns?

Chronic wounds use the most, 58.0% of 2025 advanced dressing value or about USD 3.54 billion, Douglas Insights estimates. Surgical wounds take 27.0% and burns and trauma 15.0%.

Chronic wounds dominate because a diabetic foot ulcer, venous leg ulcer or pressure injury can stay open for 12 to 30 weeks and take two or three dressing changes a week, so one patient may use 60 to 90 dressings, a Douglas Insights estimate. At 3.90% a year chronic-wound value grows to USD 5.18 billion by 2035. Surgical wounds, USD 1.65 billion, grow 3.00% on rising operation volumes, with silicone foams and films used over closed incisions. Burns and trauma, USD 914 million, grow 2.90%; burn units use silver and hydrogel dressings, and emergency departments use films and foams on lacerations and skin tears. Wound-type values for 2035 sum to USD 8.61 billion, 0.05% below the headline.

Care settings shift the mix. Hospitals still buy roughly half of the value, Douglas Insights estimates, but nursing homes, community nursing services and home care grow faster because chronic wounds are treated where the patient lives. That favours dressings with long wear time and simple application, which is why ALLEVYN Complete Care, Biatain Superabsorber and Aquacel ConvaFiber, which Convatec said was "approved in the EU & US, launching in H1 26", are the launches companies highlight.

## What drives advanced medical dressing demand: diabetes, ageing or the retreat from skin substitutes?

Advanced medical dressing volume rises 2.70% a year in our base case, from about 2.65 billion dressings in 2025 to 3.46 billion in 2035. Four drivers add 3.40 points of gross volume growth before restraints remove 0.70 points.

### Diabetes and foot ulcers: 1.10 points

Diabetes is the largest driver, worth 1.10 points. The International Diabetes Federation's [IDF Diabetes Atlas, 11th edition, published in 2025](https://diabetesatlas.org/) counts 589 million adults aged 20 to 79 with diabetes in 2024 and projects 853 million by 2050, a rise of about 45%. Douglas Insights assumes roughly one in five people with diabetes develops a foot ulcer during their lifetime, and each ulcer episode consumes 60 to 90 advanced dressings, so diabetes alone adds about 29 million dressings a year to demand by 2030, a Douglas Insights estimate.

### Ageing and pressure injuries: 0.80 points

Ageing adds 0.80 points. The World Health Organization says that by 2030 one in six people in the world will be aged 60 years or over and that the population aged 60 and over will reach 1.4 billion, its [ageing and health fact sheet](https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/ageing-and-health) states. Older patients in nursing homes and long hospital stays develop pressure injuries and skin tears that need silicone foams, and Douglas Insights estimates each additional 10 million people aged over 80 add about 85 million dressings a year once prevention protocols use prophylactic foams on the sacrum and heels.

### The retreat from skin substitutes: 0.60 points

Payment reform adds 0.60 points. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services finalised its calendar year 2026 physician fee schedule on 31 October 2025, paying most skin substitutes a flat rate of about USD 127.14 per square centimetre from 1 January 2026, the [CMS-1832-F fact sheet](https://www.cms.gov/newsroom/fact-sheets/calendar-year-cy-2026-medicare-physician-fee-schedule-final-rule-cms-1832-f) states. Smith+Nephew's Advanced Wound Bioactives revenue fell 8.7% to USD 144 million in the quarter to 26 September 2026, the [4 November 2026 update](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0) shows, and clinicians are returning to collagen, antimicrobial and foam dressings for wounds that once received a graft, a Douglas Insights estimate.

### New dressing formats in community care: 0.90 points

New formats add the remaining 0.90 points. Convatec's Advanced Wound Care revenue excluding InnovaMatrix rose 4.1% organically to USD 684 million in 2025, and it guided for "mid-single digit growth excluding InnovaMatrix" in 2026, its [24 February 2026 results](https://www.convatecgroup.com/siteassets/investors/convatec-fy25-results-press-release.pdf) state. Mölnlycke reported "4% organic sales growth" for 2025 in its [annual report release of 1 April 2026](https://news.cision.com/molnlycke/r/molnlycke-health-care-annual-report-2025-highlights-sustainable-growth-and-strategic-transformation,c4329945). Summed, 1.10 + 0.80 + 0.60 + 0.90 = 3.40 points, a Douglas Insights estimate; after restraints, the 2.70% volume leg multiplied by the 0.80% price leg gives the 3.52% revenue rate.

## What holds back advanced medical dressings: longer wear time, negative pressure or prevention?

Three restraints remove 0.70 points a year from advanced medical dressing volume growth: longer wear time takes 0.25 points, negative pressure wound therapy substitution 0.25 points, and better pressure-injury prevention 0.20 points.

Longer wear time is the paradox of the category. A superabsorbent or five-layer foam that stays on for five to seven days instead of two or three cuts the number of dressings per episode by 30% to 50%, a Douglas Insights estimate, so every successful launch lowers unit volume even as it raises value per dressing. Coloplast's Wound & Tissue Repair revenue fell 2% reported to DKK 3.85 billion in 2025/26, with only 2% organic growth, its [2 November 2026 release](https://www.coloplast.com/siteassets/investors/latest-results/q3-20252026/11_2026_fy_2025_26_earnings_release.pdf) shows, a sign that volume in mature European markets is flat.

Negative pressure is the second drag. Smith+Nephew's Advanced Wound Devices revenue rose 10.7% to USD 110 million in the September 2026 quarter, "driven by recent investments behind our PICO Single-Use NPWT System", the [4 November 2026 update](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0) states, against 1.2% for its dressings. Each closed incision managed with a single-use pump replaces a week of foam dressings, worth 0.25 points. Prevention bundles in hospitals, such as repositioning schedules and pressure-mapping sensors like Smith+Nephew's LEAF system, take the final 0.20 points by reducing new pressure injuries.

## Which region buys the most advanced medical dressings, and where does value grow fastest?

North America buys the most advanced medical dressing value, USD 2.50 billion or 41.0% of 2025 sales. Asia Pacific grows fastest, at 5.40% a year to USD 1.86 billion by 2035, as hospitals in China and India switch from gauze.

| Region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| North America | USD 2.50 billion | 41.0% | USD 2.57 billion | 3.00% | USD 3.36 billion |
| Europe | USD 1.89 billion | 31.0% | USD 1.94 billion | 2.90% | USD 2.51 billion |
| Asia Pacific | USD 1.10 billion | 18.0% | USD 1.16 billion | 5.40% | USD 1.86 billion |
| Latin America | USD 366 million | 6.0% | USD 383 million | 4.60% | USD 573 million |
| Middle East and Africa | USD 244 million | 4.0% | USD 256 million | 4.90% | USD 393 million |

North America leads because the United States pays the highest price per dressing, runs large wound clinic networks and treats a high share of diabetic foot ulcers in outpatient settings. It grows 3.00%, below the global rate, as Medicare payment reform moves spending between product classes rather than adding much. Europe, USD 1.89 billion, grows 2.90%; Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Nordic countries buy through national or regional tenders that cap unit prices, and Coloplast's 2% organic rate is typical of the region.

Asia Pacific, USD 1.10 billion, grows fastest at 5.40% because Chinese, Indian and Southeast Asian hospitals still treat many chronic wounds with gauze and are moving to foams and alginates as diabetes rates climb. Japan and Australia are mature, high-price markets. Latin America, USD 366 million, grows 4.60%, led by Brazil and Mexico. The Middle East and Africa, USD 244 million, grows 4.90%, with Gulf states driving value on high diabetes prevalence. Regional values sum to USD 6.31 billion in 2026 and USD 8.70 billion in 2035, 0.94% above the headline.

## Which companies lead advanced medical dressings, and how concentrated is the market?

Mölnlycke leads advanced medical dressings with about 15.0% of 2025 value, a Douglas Insights estimate, ahead of Smith+Nephew at 12.5% and Convatec at 11.2%. The top five, with Coloplast and Solventum, hold about 49.5%.

| Company | Base and key dressing brands | Latest filed figure | Estimated share 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Mölnlycke Health Care | Gothenburg, Sweden; Mepilex, Mepitel, Exufiber | 4% organic group sales growth, 2025 | 15.0% |
| Smith+Nephew | Watford, United Kingdom; ALLEVYN, ACTICOAT, DURAFIBER | Advanced Wound Care USD 597 million, nine months to 26 September 2026 | 12.5% |
| Convatec | London, United Kingdom; Aquacel, ConvaFoam | Advanced Wound Care ex-InnovaMatrix USD 684 million, 2025 | 11.2% |
| Coloplast | Humlebæk, Denmark; Biatain | Wound & Tissue Repair DKK 3.85 billion, year to 30 September 2026 | 5.8% |
| Solventum | Maplewood, Minnesota; Tegaderm | Not split by dressing type | 5.0% |

Smith+Nephew's Advanced Wound Care revenue rose 3.2% underlying to USD 597 million in the nine months to 26 September 2026, while its whole Advanced Wound Management unit was flat at USD 1.32 billion, the [4 November 2026 update](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0) shows; chief executive Deepak Nath pointed to "improved performance in Advanced Wound Management, led by acceleration in Advanced Wound Devices". The group cut its 2026 underlying revenue growth guidance to "around 3%". Convatec's total Advanced Wound Care revenue was USD 753 million in 2025, down 0.4% organically, because InnovaMatrix fell about 30% to USD 69 million, its [2025 results](https://www.convatecgroup.com/siteassets/investors/convatec-fy25-results-press-release.pdf) state.

[Coloplast says](https://www.coloplast.com/siteassets/investors/latest-results/q3-20252026/11_2026_fy_2025_26_earnings_release.pdf) it is "the fourth largest manufacturer in advanced dressings, with a market share of 5-10%", and that Advanced Wound Dressings make up around 60% of its DKK 3.85 billion Wound & Tissue Repair sales, roughly DKK 2.3 billion. Investor AB, Mölnlycke's owner, said Mölnlycke's Wound Care business grew 5% in the fourth quarter of 2025 in its [year-end report of 22 January 2026](https://news.cision.com/investor/r/year-end-report-2025,c4295997). Behind the top five sit Paul Hartmann, Lohmann & Rauscher, B. Braun, Cardinal Health, Medline and Integra LifeSciences; Mölnlycke and Solventum do not publish dressing revenue, so their shares, and every share in the table, are Douglas Insights estimates.

## How much does an advanced medical dressing cost, and how fast do prices rise?

An advanced medical dressing costs an average USD 2.30 at manufacturer prices in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, from about USD 0.60 for a film to USD 7.00 for a large silver foam. The blended price leg rises 0.80% a year.

Price spreads are wide. Douglas Insights puts a small transparent film at USD 0.40 to USD 1.00, a hydrocolloid at USD 1.50 to USD 3.00, a 10 cm by 10 cm bordered silicone foam at USD 2.50 to USD 5.00, a gelling fibre sheet at USD 2.00 to USD 4.50 and a silver or iodine antimicrobial dressing at USD 4.00 to USD 9.00, all at manufacturer level before distributor margin. Collagen dressings sit at the top, USD 6.00 to USD 15.00, because they are positioned as a cheaper alternative to grafts.

The average price reaches about USD 2.32 per dressing in 2026 and USD 2.49 in 2035. Two forces hold the price leg near 0.80%. Mix pulls it up by about 1.6 points a year as buyers shift to silicone foams, long-wear superabsorbers and antimicrobials. Tenders, group purchasing organisations in the United States and national framework contracts in Europe pull it down by about 0.8 points, a Douglas Insights estimate. Coloplast's statement that the market grows 2-4% a year, against volume growth near 2.7%, fits a price leg below 1%.

Value per wound, not per dressing, is what payers watch. A dressing that costs 40% more but stays on twice as long lowers the cost of an episode, which is why procurement teams increasingly score tenders on cost per week of wear, and why long-wear launches win formulary places even at higher unit prices.

## Will Medicare's skin substitute reform send more money to advanced dressings?

Partly. Douglas Insights estimates the flat-rate payment for skin substitutes moves about USD 120 million a year of U.S. wound spending to advanced dressings by 2028, mainly collagen, antimicrobial and foam products used on diabetic foot and venous leg ulcers.

Before 2026, Medicare paid many skin substitutes product by product, and spending on them rose fast. The [CMS-1832-F rule of 31 October 2025](https://www.cms.gov/newsroom/fact-sheets/calendar-year-cy-2026-medicare-physician-fee-schedule-final-rule-cms-1832-f) treats most of them as incident-to supplies paid at a single rate per square centimetre from 1 January 2026, which removes the financial reason to apply a graft to a wound that a dressing could heal. Smith+Nephew's bioactives revenue fell 8.3% underlying in the first nine months of 2026, its [4 November 2026 update](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0) shows, and Convatec's InnovaMatrix fell about 30% in 2025, its [24 February 2026 results](https://www.convatecgroup.com/siteassets/investors/convatec-fy25-results-press-release.pdf) state.

Not all of that money reaches dressings. Some wound clinics keep using lower-priced grafts, some patients move to negative pressure therapy and some spending simply disappears. Douglas Insights assumes about one dollar in five of the lost bioactive revenue is replaced by advanced dressing purchases, which supports the 0.60-point driver and the 4.40% growth rate for collagen and bioactive dressings.

## Which rules govern advanced medical dressings, from EU MDR to FDA wound dressing classes?

Two device regimes and one payment rule govern advanced medical dressings: the EU Medical Device Regulation with its [Regulation (EU) 2023/607](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/607/oj) extension, FDA classes under 21 CFR Part 878, and the CMS skin substitute rule.

The European layer is the heaviest. [Regulation (EU) 2023/607](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/607/oj) extended the deadline for legacy devices to meet the Medical Device Regulation to 31 December 2027 for higher-risk classes and 31 December 2028 for lower-risk ones, so many dressing ranges still carry certificates issued under the old directive. Dressings that incorporate a medicinal substance with an ancillary action, such as some antimicrobial dressings, fall into class III, which needs a consultation with a medicines authority and a full clinical evaluation. Small manufacturers are trimming ranges rather than paying to recertify every size, which favours the large companies, a Douglas Insights view.

In the United States, most foam, hydrocolloid, alginate and hydrogel dressings are class I or class II devices under 21 CFR Part 878, cleared through 510(k) or exempt, while dressings with antimicrobial agents go through 510(k) review with added performance data. Payment, not clearance, drives American demand: the CMS flat-rate rule for skin substitutes and Medicare surgical dressing coverage rules decide which products clinics choose.

## What if procurement tightens or chronic wounds surge: how large is the advanced medical dressings market in 2035?

The advanced medical dressings market ends 2035 between USD 7.14 billion and USD 10.2 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 8.62 billion. Chronic wound incidence and tender pricing set most of the spread.

| Case | Volume leg | Price leg | Revenue rate | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 1.60% | 0.00% | 1.60% | USD 7.14 billion |
| Base case | 2.70% | 0.80% | 3.52% | USD 8.62 billion |
| Faster | 3.70% | 1.50% | 5.26% | USD 10.2 billion |

In the slower case European tenders and U.S. group purchasing push average prices flat, longer wear time cuts unit demand faster and negative pressure takes more surgical wounds, holding growth at the bottom of Coloplast's 2-4% band. In the faster case diabetes follows the upper path of the IDF projection, Asian hospitals switch from gauze sooner and skin substitute spending moves more fully to dressings. One extra point of yearly revenue growth adds about USD 0.83 billion to 2035 value.

Company signals bracket the base case. [Convatec's Advanced Wound Care](https://www.convatecgroup.com/siteassets/investors/convatec-fy25-results-press-release.pdf) excluding InnovaMatrix grew 4.1% in 2025, [Mölnlycke's group sales](https://news.cision.com/molnlycke/r/molnlycke-health-care-annual-report-2025-highlights-sustainable-growth-and-strategic-transformation,c4329945) 4%, [Smith+Nephew's Advanced Wound Care](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-11-04:newsml_RSD6871Ba:0) 3.2% in the first nine months of 2026 and [Coloplast's Advanced Wound Dressings](https://www.coloplast.com/siteassets/investors/latest-results/q3-20252026/11_2026_fy_2025_26_earnings_release.pdf) 2% in 2025/26; our 3.52% revenue rate sits inside that range and inside Coloplast's own 2-4% market estimate.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Advanced Dressing Growth Ledger

The Advanced Dressing Growth Ledger is a Douglas Insights model built from 9 inputs, 8 company filings and 1 federal payment rule, listed below. It weights reported growth by dressing revenue.

| Date | Input | What it moves |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 31 October 2025 | CMS-1832-F skin substitute flat rate | Bioactive shift |
| 22 January 2026 | Investor AB: Mölnlycke Wound Care +5% in Q4 2025 | Leader growth |
| 24 February 2026 | Convatec: AWC ex-InnovaMatrix USD 684 million, +4.1% | Weighted growth |
| 24 February 2026 | Convatec: InnovaMatrix down about 30% | Bioactive shift |
| 1 April 2026 | Mölnlycke: 4% organic growth in 2025 | Weighted growth |
| 2 November 2026 | Coloplast: AWD +2% organic, market DKK 34-36 billion | Weighted growth |
| 2 November 2026 | Coloplast: AWD +9% in Q4 2025/26 | Momentum |
| 4 November 2026 | Smith+Nephew: AWC USD 597 million, +3.2% in nine months | Weighted growth |
| 4 November 2026 | Smith+Nephew: AWD devices +10.7% | NPWT substitution |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: the four largest reporting dressing makers grew their advanced dressing revenue by a weighted 3.54% in their latest full periods, using Mölnlycke at 4.0%, Smith+Nephew at 3.2%, Convatec at 4.1% and Coloplast at 2.0%, weighted by about USD 915 million, USD 763 million, USD 684 million and USD 355 million of dressing revenue. That is within 0.02 points of our 3.52% base-case rate.

The ledger also shows where growth comes from. Every company that grew faster than 3% in 2025 or 2026 named a long-wear or antimicrobial launch, while the bioactive lines next to their dressings shrank. Douglas Insights therefore treats new formats, not price, as the main lever, which supports the 0.90-point driver and the low 0.80% price leg.

## How does the methodology turn 2.65 billion dressings into USD 6.10 billion?

Our methodology multiplies about 2.65 billion advanced dressings sold in 2025 by an average USD 2.30 at manufacturer prices to reach USD 6.10 billion, then grows volume 2.70% and price 0.80% a year.

The model covers 7 dressing types, 3 wound groups and 5 regions, using 58 data points, 19 sourced and 39 modelled. Unit volume comes from the dressing revenue of the five named companies, divided by type-weighted prices, plus Paul Hartmann, Lohmann & Rauscher, B. Braun, Cardinal Health, Medline and regional makers in China and India, all Douglas Insights estimates. Arithmetic: 2.65 billion x USD 2.30 = USD 6.095 billion; USD 6.095 billion x (1.027 x 1.008)^10 = USD 8.62 billion. Volume reaches about 2.72 billion dressings in 2026 and 3.46 billion in 2035.

Two cross-checks frame the figure. First, Coloplast's DKK 34-36 billion estimate converts to roughly USD 5.3 billion to USD 5.6 billion at 2026 exchange rates, a Douglas Insights conversion; our USD 6.10 billion is about 10% higher because it also counts film, transparent and collagen dressings. Second, our [Wound Care Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/wound-care-market/) report carries a wider advanced-dressing row of USD 9.07 billion, built from product spend per treated episode, which captures distributor and pharmacy margins and bordered island dressings; the two rows will be reconciled at the May 2027 review. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## What counts in the advanced medical dressings study, and what is excluded?

The advanced medical dressings study counts moist-wound-healing dressings sold for chronic, surgical, burn and trauma wounds worldwide, valued at manufacturer selling prices. Gauze, plain bandages, negative pressure devices, skin substitutes and wound cleansers are excluded.

The study splits value by 7 dressing types, 3 wound groups and 5 regions: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. Footwear that offloads diabetic foot ulcers appears in our [Diabetic Footwear Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/diabetic-footwear-market/) report, and surgical removal of dead tissue in our [Wound Debridement Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/wound-debridement-market/) report.
