## Key takeaways

- The Asia Pacific kitchen tools market is worth USD 6.87 billion in 2025 and USD 11.7 billion in 2035, a 5.47% revenue CAGR.
- 1.90 billion pieces at USD 3.62 make up the 2025 base; pieces grow 3.20% and price per piece 2.20% a year.
- Kitchen knives and cutlery hold 30.2% of value and grow fastest at 6.10% a year.
- China buys USD 2.61 billion, 38.0% of value; India grows fastest at 9.20%.
- China makes about 70% of the region's pieces but Chinese brands earn only about 45% of its value.

China's retail sales of daily necessities rose 3.8% in the first nine months of 2026 while household appliances fell 4.9% and furniture 4.7%, the [National Bureau of Statistics reported on 20 October 2026](https://www.stats.gov.cn/english/PressRelease/202610/t20261020_1965662.html); Groupe SEB had already said on 24 February 2026 that cookware and kitchen utensils, mainly knives, drove its 2025 growth in Asia, especially Japan. Asian households are spending on the small tools in the drawer while they hold back on big-ticket kitchen purchases. The Asia Pacific kitchen tools market covers hand-held, non-electric tools sold to households and foodservice kitchens in China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the rest of Asia Pacific: kitchen knives and cutlery, cooking utensils, food preparation gadgets, measuring and baking tools, and cutting boards, valued at manufacturer selling prices. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 6.87 billion in 2025, from 1.90 billion pieces at an average USD 3.62 a piece, and at USD 11.7 billion in 2035, a revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 5.47%. The study sits in our [consumer goods coverage](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/consumer-goods-retail/), is the Asia Pacific row of our worldwide [Kitchen Tools Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchen-tools-market/) report, and every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which kitchen tools product earns the most: knives, utensils or gadgets?

Kitchen knives and cutlery earn the most kitchen tools value, 30.2% of 2025, USD 2.07 billion, because a knife sells for several times a spatula. Knives also grow fastest, 6.10% a year, to USD 3.75 billion by 2035.

| Product | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Kitchen knives and cutlery | 30.2% | USD 2.07 billion | 6.10% | USD 3.75 billion |
| Cooking utensils | 25.8% | USD 1.77 billion | 4.80% | USD 2.83 billion |
| Food preparation gadgets | 22.4% | USD 1.54 billion | 5.90% | USD 2.73 billion |
| Measuring and baking tools | 12.6% | USD 866 million | 5.40% | USD 1.46 billion |
| Cutting boards | 9.0% | USD 618 million | 4.20% | USD 933 million |

Kitchen knives and cutlery, USD 2.07 billion, lead because Japan and South Korea buy forged and Japanese-style blades at USD 60 to USD 250, and because China's Yangjiang cluster, which makes about 70% of the country's knives, feeds every price tier from street market to department store. Knives grow 6.10% a year, the fastest line, as Chinese and Indian buyers trade up; Groupe SEB named knives as the main driver of its 2025 Asian cookware and utensil growth in its [full-year results](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260224283063/en/Result-Down-in-2025-Launch-of-a-Plan-to-Return-to-Our-Profitable-Growth-Trajectory). Cooking utensils, USD 1.77 billion or 25.8%, are the largest line by pieces, ladles, spatulas, wok tools and tongs at USD 0.80 to USD 4, but grow only 4.80% a year because they last and sell at low prices.

Food preparation gadgets, USD 1.54 billion, grow 5.90% a year on peelers, graters, garlic presses and spiralisers discovered through live-stream and social shopping. Measuring and baking tools, USD 866 million or 12.6%, grow 5.40% as home baking spreads from Japan and Korea into China's and India's cities. Cutting boards, USD 618 million or 9.0%, grow 4.20%, the slowest, because a wood or plastic board is replaced rarely; antibacterial and hinoki boards add value rather than volume. Product values for 2035 sum to USD 11.7 billion, 0.08% above the headline. The wider pan and container picture is in our [Kitchenware Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchenware-market/) report.

### Kitchen tools by material and channel

By material, stainless steel carries about 46% of 2025 kitchen tools value, USD 3.16 billion, because knives, whisks, ladles and measuring spoons are made from it; nylon carries about 21%, USD 1.44 billion, silicone about 19%, USD 1.31 billion, and wood and bamboo about 14%, USD 962 million, all Douglas Insights estimates. Silicone gains share fastest, about 0.6 points a year, as Japanese and Chinese buyers replace nylon spatulas that soften at high heat, and as the positive list pushes suppliers toward documented resins. Bamboo boards and spoons hold their share because China and Vietnam grow the material cheaply.

By channel, mass merchants and supermarkets sell about 38% of value, online retail about 34%, specialty kitchen and department stores about 22% and warehouse clubs about 6%, Douglas Insights estimates. Online is higher than the 27.9% we measure worldwide because Tmall, JD.com, Douyin, Flipkart, Amazon India and Shopee sell tools that local stores do not stock; specialty stores keep Japan's premium knife trade, where buyers still want to hold a blade before paying USD 150 for it.

## What drives kitchen tools piece sales up 3.20% a year?

Kitchen tools piece sales rise 3.20% a year, from 1.90 billion in 2025 to about 2.60 billion in 2035, because household formation, online discovery, material replacement and foodservice growth add 3.90 points before restraints.

Price per piece adds a further 2.20% a year, from USD 3.62 to about USD 4.50, so revenue grows 5.47%. Four drivers make up the gross volume leg, all Douglas Insights estimates.

### Urban household formation: 1.20 points

New urban households add 1.20 points. Every new flat in India, Indonesia or Vietnam needs a first set of knives, ladles and boards, which is why India grows 9.20% a year in our build. Douglas Insights counts a first kit at 12 to 15 pieces worth about USD 40 at manufacturer prices, so every million new urban homes adds about 13.5 million pieces. TTK Prestige raised its sales 9.6% to INR 2,772.7 crore in the year to March 2026, its results summary of [28 July 2026](https://quartr.com/events/ttk-prestige-limited-517506-q4-25-26_FRPEagVm) shows.

### Online and social commerce: 1.00 point

Online discovery adds 1.00 point. China's online retail sales of goods rose 3.8% in the first nine months of 2026, the [NBS](https://www.stats.gov.cn/english/PressRelease/202610/t20261020_1965662.html) says, and Groupe SEB said social commerce is about 25% of Supor's online sales. A short video showing a garlic press sells gadgets no shelf would stock. Online retail carries about 34% of Asia Pacific kitchen tools value in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, and gains about 1.3 share points a year.

### Replacement with compliant materials: 0.80 points

Replacement adds 0.80 points. Japan's positive list for synthetic resin food contact items became mandatory on 1 June 2025, and India's quality control order for aluminium utensils applies from 1 October 2026, so retailers restock plastic and aluminium tools that meet the new lists. Douglas Insights estimates the two rules bring forward about 25 million replacement pieces across 2025 to 2027, a small share of yearly sales but concentrated in nylon and aluminium tools.

### Foodservice kitchens: 0.90 points

Foodservice adds 0.90 points. Restaurants, cloud kitchens and hotel kitchens wear out tongs, ladles and knives in months rather than years, so each new outlet in Southeast Asia or India keeps buying. Foodservice kitchens buy about 14% of pieces but about 18% of value, Douglas Insights estimates, because commercial knives and tongs are heavier and dearer than household ones. The four contributions, 1.20 + 1.00 + 0.80 + 0.90, give 3.90 points.

## What holds back kitchen tools volume: saturated kitchens, housing or compliance?

Three headwinds remove 0.70 points from kitchen tools volume growth, leaving 3.20% a year: saturated kitchens in Japan, Korea and Australia take 0.30 points, China's housing slump 0.25 points and compliance costs 0.15 points.

Saturation is the largest brake. Japanese and Korean homes already own full drawers, and their populations are shrinking, so Japan grows 2.60% a year and South Korea 3.90%, mostly on price; Groupe SEB said South Korea's small domestic appliance market was challenging in 2025 and its sales there declined. China's housing slump removes 0.25 points: fewer new homes mean fewer first-kitchen kits, and the [NBS](https://www.stats.gov.cn/english/PressRelease/202610/t20261020_1965662.html) shows furniture sales down 4.7% and appliances down 4.9% in January to September 2026, the big-ticket purchases that come with a move.

Compliance removes 0.15 points. India's [Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order 2026](https://www.sgs.com/en/news/2026/02/safeguards-01726-india-issues-new-order-for-cookware-utensils-and-food-and-beverage-cans) requires Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for aluminium utensils, which some small workshops cannot afford, and Japan's positive list forces importers to document every resin and additive. Douglas Insights expects some small makers to leave the market rather than certify, trimming pieces in the short run.

## Where are kitchen tools bought most in Asia Pacific: China, Japan or India?

China buys the most kitchen tools in Asia Pacific, USD 2.61 billion or 38.0% of 2025, a Douglas Insights estimate. India grows fastest, 9.20% a year, from USD 770 million to USD 1.86 billion by 2035.

| Country or sub-region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| China | USD 2.61 billion | 38.0% | USD 2.74 billion | 5.10% | USD 4.29 billion |
| Japan | USD 1.20 billion | 17.5% | USD 1.23 billion | 2.60% | USD 1.55 billion |
| India | USD 770 million | 11.2% | USD 840 million | 9.20% | USD 1.86 billion |
| South Korea | USD 508 million | 7.4% | USD 528 million | 3.90% | USD 745 million |
| Australia and New Zealand | USD 481 million | 7.0% | USD 498 million | 3.60% | USD 685 million |
| Southeast Asia | USD 852 million | 12.4% | USD 917 million | 7.60% | USD 1.77 billion |
| Rest of Asia Pacific | USD 447 million | 6.5% | USD 475 million | 6.40% | USD 830 million |

China leads because it has the most households, the Yangjiang and Guangdong factories that keep prices low, and platforms such as Tmall, JD.com and Douyin that sell tools at every price point; it grows 5.10% a year, held back by the housing slump. Groupe SEB's China sales rose 2.7% like-for-like to EUR 1.88 billion in 2025, a return to organic growth. Japan, USD 1.20 billion or 17.5%, is the second market on value, not volume: its buyers pay the region's highest prices for Seki and Sakai blades and baking tools, but it grows only 2.60% a year.

India, USD 770 million, grows fastest, 9.20% a year, on new urban households and the move from loose steel utensils to branded sets. Southeast Asia, USD 852 million, grows 7.60% as Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines add households and foodservice outlets; Groupe SEB's other Asian countries grew 2.5% like-for-like to EUR 472 million in 2025. South Korea, USD 508 million, grows 3.90%; Australia and New Zealand, USD 481 million, 3.60%, the slowest after Japan; the rest of Asia Pacific, from Taiwan to Pakistan and Bangladesh, holds USD 447 million. Country values for 2035 sum to USD 11.7 billion, 0.29% above the headline; in the data table the row labelled Global holds the Asia Pacific total. A household-goods view of the same buyers is in our [Asia Pacific Home Care Chemicals Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/asia-pacific-home-care-chemicals-market/) report.

## Who sells the most kitchen tools: Supor, Zwilling or TTK Prestige?

Supor, Groupe SEB's Chinese arm, sells the most kitchen tools here, about 4.1% of 2025 value, USD 282 million, a Douglas Insights estimate. The top three, Supor, Zwilling and Kai, hold about 8.9%; the market is fragmented.

| Company | What the position rests on | Estimated share 2025 | Estimated value 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Supor (Groupe SEB) | China's leading cookware brand, utensil and knife sets, social commerce | 4.1% | USD 282 million |
| Zwilling J.A. Henckels | Premium knives, Miyabi blades made in Seki, Japan | 2.6% | USD 179 million |
| Kai Corporation | Seki-made knives, Shun, baking tools in Japan | 2.2% | USD 151 million |
| TTK Prestige | India's widest branded kitchen range | 1.8% | USD 124 million |
| Lock & Lock | Korean preparation tools and gadgets | 1.5% | USD 103 million |
| Shibazi | Yangjiang knives sold across China | 1.3% | USD 89.3 million |
| Fiskars Group | Fiskars-brand scissors and tools in Asian department stores | 0.6% | USD 41.2 million |
| Other companies | Hawkins Cookers, Borosil, Joseph Joseph, OXO, Muji, Nitori, Daiso private label and over 8,500 Yangjiang firms | 85.9% | USD 5.90 billion |

All shares are Douglas Insights estimates because most suppliers report cookware, appliances and tools together. TTK Prestige's INR 2,772.7 crore is mostly pressure cookers, cookware and appliances, so tools are a fraction of it; Groupe SEB's EUR 1.88 billion in China is mostly small electrics and cookware. Yangjiang counts more than 8,500 market entities, of which 25 have output above CNY 100 million each, the city reported at its [24th knife and scissors fair of 21 to 23 October 2025](https://info.newsgd.com/node_ff52103c08/8c0b5e3bcf.shtml). Scale in factories does not mean scale in brands: the cluster sells much of its output under retailers' names, which is why private label holds a large part of the 85.9%. Borosil's revenue rose 5.2% to INR 284 crore in the quarter to March 2026, [Sahi reported on 19 May 2026](https://sahi.com/news/borosil-q4-revenue-gains-5-to-284-cr-while-net-profit-slips-to-10-6-cr-4811-PE1_COR), a sign that India's branded kitchen makers grow steadily rather than fast; the faster growth sits with online-only brands and private label.

## How much does a kitchen tools piece cost, from a USD 0.80 spatula to a USD 250 Japanese knife?

A kitchen tools piece cost an average USD 3.62 here in 2025, a Douglas Insights estimate, 81% of the worldwide USD 4.46, from USD 0.80 for a nylon spatula to USD 250 for a forged Japanese chef's knife.

| Product | Typical manufacturer price per piece, 2025 | What sets it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cooking utensils | USD 0.80 to USD 4 | Nylon and silicone resin, Guangdong factory competition |
| Food preparation gadgets | USD 1.50 to USD 8 | Design, platform promotion |
| Measuring and baking tools | USD 1 to USD 6 | Stainless steel and silicone grades |
| Cutting boards | USD 2 to USD 15 | Wood species, antibacterial resin |
| Kitchen knives, mass market | USD 3 to USD 15 | Stamped steel, Yangjiang supply |
| Kitchen knives, premium | USD 60 to USD 250 | Forged layered steel, Seki and Sakai craft |

The bands are Douglas Insights estimates from manufacturer list prices and retailer shelves. The low average reflects mix: cheap utensils and gadgets supply most pieces in China, India and Southeast Asia, while Japan's average is about twice the regional figure on our estimate. Price per piece rises 2.20% a year, to USD 3.70 in 2026 and USD 4.50 in 2035, because buyers trade up to forged knives and certified resins; Yangjiang competition and private label keep mass-market prices nearly flat.

## Which rules shape kitchen tools sales: Japan's positive list or India's utensil QCO?

Two rule sets shape kitchen tools sales most: Japan's positive list for synthetic resin food contact items, mandatory since 1 June 2025, and India's 2026 quality control order (QCO) for aluminium utensils, effective 1 October 2026.

Japan amended its Food Sanitation Act in 2018 so that only listed substances may be used in plastic utensils, containers and packaging; the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) list holds 21 base materials and 827 additives, and full compliance was due by 1 June 2025, the [Food Packaging Forum](https://foodpackagingforum.org/news/japan-preparing-food-contact-material-regulation-for-june-2025-enforcement-deadline) reported. Nylon spatulas, silicone whisks and plastic boards sold in Japan must now trace every resin and additive, which favours large suppliers with documented chains.

India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order 2026 on 16 January 2026. It makes BIS certification to IS 1660:2024 compulsory for aluminium utensils from 1 October 2026 for general enterprises, 1 January 2027 for small and 1 April 2027 for micro enterprises, and drops stainless steel utensils (IS 14756:2024) from the 2025 order, [SGS reported](https://www.sgs.com/en/news/2026/02/safeguards-01726-india-issues-new-order-for-cookware-utensils-and-food-and-beverage-cans). Steel tools stay open to imports; aluminium tools need a licence.

## What if Chinese housing stays weak: kitchen tools value in 2035 under three cases

The kitchen tools market ends 2035 between USD 9.91 billion and USD 13.7 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 11.7 billion. China's housing and India's household growth set most of the spread.

| Case | Pieces leg | Price per piece leg | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 2.20% | 1.50% | USD 9.91 billion |
| Base case | 3.20% | 2.20% | USD 11.7 billion |
| Faster | 4.20% | 2.80% | USD 13.7 billion |

In the slower case Chinese home sales stay depressed, Japanese and Korean households keep shrinking and platform discounting holds prices down. In the faster case India's urban build-out speeds up and Chinese buyers trade up to premium knives faster. One extra point of yearly price growth adds USD 1.20 billion to 2035 kitchen tools value; one point less removes USD 1.10 billion. India is the swing country: if its kitchen tools sales grow one point faster than our 9.20%, India alone reaches about USD 2.03 billion in 2035 instead of USD 1.86 billion.

The 5.47% base rate sits above the 4.35% we use for the worldwide kitchen tools market and below the 6.41% for the Middle East and Africa, because Asia Pacific combines fast India and Southeast Asia with slow Japan.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Yangjiang Supply Ledger

The Yangjiang Supply Ledger is a Douglas Insights model, an estimate rather than an official register, built from 5 inputs published by Yangjiang city, China's statistics bureau and Groupe SEB. It shows how far one city sets kitchen tools prices.

| Input | Figure | Source and date |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Share of China's knives made in Yangjiang | About 70% | Yangjiang, October 2025 |
| Share of China's knife exports | About 85% | Yangjiang, October 2025 |
| Market entities and large firms | 8,500-plus; 25 above CNY 100 million | Yangjiang, October 2025 |
| China daily-necessities retail, January to September 2026 | +3.8% | NBS, 20 October 2026 |
| Groupe SEB China sales, 2025 | EUR 1.88 billion, +2.7% like-for-like | Groupe SEB, 24 February 2026 |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: China supplies about 70% of the 1.90 billion pieces sold in Asia Pacific, and Yangjiang alone about a third of the region's knives by count, yet only about 45% of regional value is earned by Chinese brands. Mass-market tools are made in Guangdong and sold under Japanese, Korean, Indian and retailer names. That is why we hold mass-market prices nearly flat and put all of the 2.20% price leg on trading up: a buyer pays more for a brand and a forged edge, not for a cheaper factory.

## How does the methodology turn 1.90 billion pieces into USD 6.87 billion of kitchen tools sales?

Our methodology multiplies 1.90 billion kitchen tools pieces sold in 2025 by an average USD 3.62 a piece to reach USD 6.87 billion. Pieces come from seven country and sub-region builds; prices come from manufacturer lists.

The model covers 7 countries or sub-regions, 5 products, 4 materials and 4 channels, and uses 92 data points, 15 sourced and 77 modelled. Arithmetic: 1,898 million pieces x USD 3.62 = USD 6.87 billion; USD 6.87 billion x (1.0320 x 1.0220)^10 = USD 11.7 billion. Pieces reach 1.96 billion in 2026 and 2.60 billion in 2035; price per piece reaches USD 3.70 in 2026.

Two cross-checks agree. First, the Asia Pacific row of our worldwide [Kitchen Tools Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchen-tools-market/) model is USD 6.87 billion in 2025 and USD 11.7 billion in 2035, 36.8% of the USD 18.7 billion world total. Second, our 1.90 billion pieces are 45% of the 4.19 billion pieces sold worldwide, consistent with Asia Pacific's lower average price. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## Do chef's knives, silicone spatulas and restaurant tools count in the kitchen tools total, and what is excluded?

Yes: all USD 6.87 billion of the kitchen tools total is hand-held, non-electric tools at manufacturer prices, so chef's knives, silicone spatulas and tools bought by restaurants count. Pots and pans, food storage containers, small electric appliances, tableware, retail margins and sales taxes are excluded.

The by-product split covers kitchen knives and cutlery, cooking utensils, food preparation gadgets, measuring and baking tools, and cutting boards; the by-material split covers stainless steel, silicone, nylon, and wood and bamboo; the by-channel split covers mass merchants, online retail, specialty kitchen stores and warehouse clubs; the by-country split covers China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the rest of Asia Pacific.
