Samsung Biologics started operations at Plant 5 in Songdo, Incheon in April 2025, its [first-quarter 2025 results of 23 April 2025](https://samsungbiologics.com/media/company-news/samsung-biologics-reports-first-quarter-2025-financial-results) state, adding 180,000 litres and lifting its antibody capacity to 784,000 litres, as the company had set out in its [plant 5 announcement](https://samsungbiologics.com/media/company-news/samsung-biologics-accelerates-timeline-of-new-fifth-plant-to-be-operational-by-april-2025). Eleven months later, on 24 March 2026, Celltrion committed KRW 1.2265 trillion to Plants 4 and 5 in Songdo, another 180,000 litres, its [press release](https://celltrion.com/en-us/company/media-center/press-release/4671) says. Two companies in one Korean city committed 360,000 litres of new culture volume in under a year. The Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing market covers the cell culture media and supplements, bioreactors and fermenters, single-use upstream bags and assemblies, cell line development services, and upstream sensors and probes that biologics plants in China, South Korea, Japan, India, Singapore and Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and the rest of the region use to grow production cells. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 3.13 billion in 2025, from 2.40 million litres of installed culture capacity at USD 1,302.8 of upstream spend per litre a year, and at USD 8.88 billion in 2035, a revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 11.0%. The study is the Asia Pacific row of our worldwide [Upstream Bioprocessing Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/upstream-bioprocessing-market/) report, sits in our [pharmaceutical manufacturing services coverage](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/pharmaceutical-manufacturing-services/), and every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which upstream product earns the most in Asia Pacific: media, bioreactors, single-use bags, cell lines or probes?

Cell culture media and supplements earn the most, 36.0% of 2025 Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing value, USD 1.13 billion. Single-use upstream bags and assemblies grow fastest, 13.6% a year, from USD 578.5 million to USD 2.07 billion.

| Product | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Cell culture media and supplements | 36.0% | USD 1.13 billion | 10.2% | USD 2.97 billion |
| Bioreactors and fermenters | 25.5% | USD 797.3 million | 9.0% | USD 1.89 billion |
| Single-use upstream bags and assemblies | 18.5% | USD 578.5 million | 13.6% | USD 2.07 billion |
| Cell line development services | 11.5% | USD 359.6 million | 11.6% | USD 1.08 billion |
| Upstream sensors and probes | 8.5% | USD 265.8 million | 11.2% | USD 768.4 million |

Media lead at USD 1.13 billion because every fed-batch run in a 15,000-litre stainless train consumes tonnes of powder and liquid feed, and the region runs more of those trains than any other. Their 36.0% share sits below the 38.6% in our worldwide model because Korean and Chinese contract plants buy media at volume discounts, and because local suppliers such as Shanghai OPM Biosciences and Japan's Ajinomoto sell chemically defined media below Western list prices. Media value grows 10.2% a year to USD 2.97 billion, slightly below the market, as titers rise and each gram of antibody needs less feed.

Bioreactors and fermenters, USD 797.3 million or 25.5%, take a larger slice than the 22.7% worldwide because Asia Pacific is still building hardware: Lotte Biologics fitted its new Songdo plant with eight 15,000-litre stainless vessels, and Korean CDMOs generally favour large stainless trains. Hardware grows 9.0% a year to USD 1.89 billion, the slowest line, because a stainless train runs for two decades once installed. Single-use upstream bags and assemblies, USD 578.5 million, grow 13.6% a year and reach 23.3% of 2035 value, as clinical and launch-scale suites in Singapore, India and Japan standardise on 2,000-litre and 5,000-litre single-use bioreactors whose bags are replaced every batch.

Cell line development services, USD 359.6 million, grow 11.6% a year to USD 1.08 billion as Chinese biotechs out-license bispecific and antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) programmes and need clonal production lines first; the global view is in our [Cell Line Development Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/cell-line-development-market/) report. Upstream sensors and probes, USD 265.8 million, grow 11.2% a year as new plants install process analytical technology from day one. Product values for 2035 sum to USD 8.78 billion, 1.14% below the headline, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## How do mammalian culture, microbial fermentation and contract plants split Asia Pacific upstream spending?

Mammalian cell culture takes 82.0% of 2025 Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing value, USD 2.56 billion. Biopharmaceutical companies spend 52.0%, USD 1.63 billion, and contract plants 40.0%, USD 1.25 billion, against 33.0% in the United States.

By cell type, microbial fermentation holds 13.0%, USD 406.5 million, larger than in the United States because India and China make insulin, enzymes, filgrastim and plasmid DNA in Escherichia coli and yeast at scale. Insect and other cells hold 5.0%, USD 156.3 million, mostly for vaccines and viral vectors in China, Japan and Singapore. By workflow, cell culture takes 63.0%, USD 1.97 billion, media preparation 26.0%, USD 813.0 million, and cell separation, including perfusion retention, 11.0%, USD 343.9 million.

Contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs) hold 40.0% of regional spend against 33.0% in the United States because Samsung Biologics, Celltrion's contract arm, Lotte Biologics, WuXi Biologics and AGC Biologics run large shared plants for sponsors worldwide. Academic and research institutes spend USD 250.1 million, 8.0%, on bench bioreactors, research-grade media and screening systems. A Korean CDMO buying media for eight 15,000-litre vessels pays a fraction per litre of what a Singapore start-up pays for a 200-litre single-use run, which is why plant mix, not buyer count, sets regional spend.

## What drives Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing culture litres up 8.30% a year?

Installed culture capacity grows 8.30% a year, from 2.40 million litres in 2025 to 5.33 million in 2035. Five drivers add 9.10 points: Korean CDMO build-out 3.10, Chinese pipelines 2.20, India 1.60, Japan and Singapore 1.20, biosimilars 1.00.

Spend per litre adds a second leg of 2.49% a year, from USD 1,302.8 in 2025 to about USD 1,666 in 2035, as single-use and perfusion suites gain share. Multiplying the two legs, 1.0830 x 1.0249, gives the 11.0% revenue rate, the fastest of the five regions in our worldwide model and 2.39 points above its 8.61% world rate.

### Korean CDMO build-out: 3.10 points

Korea adds 3.10 points. Samsung Biologics reported 2025 revenue of KRW 4,557.0 billion, up 30.3%, with Plants 1 to 3 at full use in the fourth quarter and Plant 4 full from the third quarter, its [results of 21 January 2026](https://samsungbiologics.com/media/company-news/samsung-biologics-reports-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2025-financial-results) state. Celltrion's KRW 1.2265 trillion programme lifts its drug substance capacity from 316,000 to about 571,000 litres by 2030, 180,000 of them in Songdo. Lotte Biologics completed Songdo Plant 1 with eight 15,000-litre stainless bioreactors, 120,000 litres, and received approval for use, its [release of 21 June 2026](https://www.biospace.com/press-releases/lotte-biologics-completes-construction-of-songdo-bio-campus-plant-1-and-obtains-approval-for-use) says. These three projects add 480,000 litres, 20.0% of the region's 2025 base, each needing media, probes and seed-train bags from its first batch.

### Chinese biologics pipelines: 2.20 points

China adds 2.20 points. WuXi Biologics reported 2025 revenue of RMB 21.8 billion, up 16.7%, with 209 new integrated projects, a record, 945 projects in total and a USD 23.7 billion backlog, its [results of 24 March 2026](https://en.prnasia.com/releases/global/wuxi-biologics-reports-record-2025-annual-results-526507.shtml) show. Chinese biotechs that license bispecifics and ADCs to Western partners must produce clinical and commercial supply in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, and each programme that reaches Phase III moves from a 200-litre suite to a 2,000-litre or larger train.

### India's biosimilar and biologics push: 1.60 points

India adds 1.60 points. The Union Budget 2026-27 launched Biopharma SHAKTI, a Rs 10,000 crore five-year initiative with three new National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs), seven upgraded ones, more than 1,000 accredited clinical trial sites and added reviewers at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), the [Press Information Bureau note of 2 February 2026](https://static.pib.gov.in/WriteReadData/specificdocs/documents/2026/feb/doc202622776701.pdf) states. Biocon Biologics, Intas, Dr. Reddy's and Syngene buy the media, single-use bags and microbial fermenters that biosimilar insulin, trastuzumab and adalimumab lines consume.

### Japan and Singapore single-use suites: 1.20 points

Japan and Singapore add 1.20 points. AGC Biologics chose two 5,000-litre Thermo Scientific DynaDrive single-use bioreactors for its new Yokohama facility, with good manufacturing practice (GMP) operation from 2027, its [release of 7 April 2025](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250407602330/en) says. WuXi Biologics has started building a modular drug product facility in Singapore and is designing a drug substance plant there, its [2025 results](https://en.prnasia.com/releases/global/wuxi-biologics-reports-record-2025-annual-results-526507.shtml) state, and a single-use train carries about 1.8 times the upstream spend per litre of a stainless one, on our plant-type bands.

### Biosimilars for export: 1.00 point

Biosimilars add 1.00 point as Korean, Indian and Chinese makers copy ustekinumab, denosumab and aflibercept for Europe and the United States. The five contributions, 3.10 + 2.20 + 1.60 + 1.20 + 1.00, give 9.10 points before restraints.

## What holds back Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing: BIOSECURE, titers or idle suites?

Three restraints remove 0.80 points from litre growth, leaving 8.30% a year: U.S. restrictions on Chinese contract makers take 0.40 points, higher titers 0.25 points and idle contract suites 0.15 points.

The BIOSECURE Act became law on 18 December 2025 as section 851 of the fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, [Akin Gump reported](https://www.akingump.com/en/insights/alerts/biosecure-act-becomes-law); it bars U.S. federal contracts with firms that use biotechnology equipment or services from a company of concern. Douglas Insights books 0.40 points of lost regional litre growth because some U.S. sponsors will place new programmes in Korea, Japan or the United States rather than in Chinese plants, and that business partly leaves the region. Korea gains some of what China loses, which is why we hold China to 10.6% a year and lift Korea to 11.4%.

Titers remove 0.25 points. A CHO process making 2 to 3 grams per litre a decade ago now often makes 5 to 8, so the same tonnage of antibody needs fewer litres and less media per gram. Idle contract suites remove 0.15 points: capacity added in China between 2020 and 2024 ran below full use while funding for Chinese biotechs tightened, and new bioreactor orders there slowed until projects filled it. Validation adds friction rather than a fixed point count, because a supplier switch after approval needs comparability data, which protects incumbents in every Asia Pacific country.

## Where in Asia Pacific is upstream bioprocessing spend: China, Korea or India?

China holds the most Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing value, USD 1.09 billion or 35.0% of 2025, Douglas Insights estimates. India grows fastest, 14.6% a year to USD 1.47 billion by 2035, and South Korea adds the second-largest increment.

| Country or sub-region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| China | USD 1.09 billion | 35.0% | USD 1.21 billion | 10.6% | USD 3.00 billion |
| South Korea | USD 750.4 million | 24.0% | USD 836.0 million | 11.4% | USD 2.21 billion |
| Japan | USD 500.3 million | 16.0% | USD 541.3 million | 8.2% | USD 1.10 billion |
| India | USD 375.2 million | 12.0% | USD 430.0 million | 14.6% | USD 1.47 billion |
| Singapore and Southeast Asia | USD 218.9 million | 7.0% | USD 246.0 million | 12.4% | USD 704.5 million |
| Australia and New Zealand | USD 125.1 million | 4.0% | USD 136.3 million | 9.0% | USD 296.1 million |
| Rest of Asia Pacific | USD 62.5 million | 2.0% | USD 68.8 million | 10.0% | USD 162.2 million |

China leads at USD 1.09 billion because WuXi Biologics, its rivals and hundreds of biotechs in Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou run the region's largest number of programmes, and China grows 10.6% a year to USD 3.00 billion. It still adds 33.1% of the region's new value to 2035, but its rate sits below the regional 11.0% because of BIOSECURE and slower biotech funding. South Korea, USD 750.4 million, grows 11.4% to USD 2.21 billion and adds 25.4% of new value, almost entirely through Songdo. Korea's spend per litre is the lowest in the region because large stainless trains dominate its capacity.

Japan, USD 500.3 million, grows 8.2% a year, the slowest rate, because its large pharma groups already own capacity and much of its new volume, such as AGC Biologics' Yokohama site, arrives after 2027. India, USD 375.2 million, grows 14.6% on biosimilars and Biopharma SHAKTI, and Thermo Fisher Scientific opened a Bioprocess Design Center in Hyderabad's Genome Valley with the Government of Telangana, its [release of 2 December 2025](https://newsroom.thermofisher.com/newsroom/press-releases/press-release-details/2025/Thermo-Fisher-Scientific-Deepens-Investment-in-Asias-Biopharma-Ecosystem-with-Expansion-of-Bioprocess-Design-Centers/default.aspx) states, alongside expanded centres in Incheon and Singapore. Singapore and Southeast Asia, USD 218.9 million, grow 12.4%; Australia and New Zealand, USD 125.1 million, grow 9.0% on plasma, vaccine and cell therapy work; the rest of the region, mainly Taiwan, grows 10.0%. Country values for 2035 sum to USD 8.94 billion, 0.64% above the headline; in the data table the row labelled Global holds the Asia Pacific total.

## Who supplies Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing, and how concentrated is the field?

Thermo Fisher Scientific supplies the most, about 17.0% of 2025 Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing value, USD 531.6 million, Douglas Insights estimates. With Danaher's Cytiva and Sartorius, the top three hold 42.3%, below the 47.7% worldwide.

| Supplier | What the position rests on | Estimated share 2025 | Estimated value 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Thermo Fisher Scientific | Gibco media, HyPerforma and DynaDrive single-use bioreactors, design centres in Incheon, Hyderabad and Singapore | 17.0% | USD 531.6 million |
| Danaher (Cytiva) | HyClone media, Xcellerex bioreactors, Songdo innovation hub | 15.5% | USD 484.7 million |
| Sartorius | Biostat STR bioreactors, Ambr screening, Flexsafe bags | 9.8% | USD 306.4 million |
| Merck KGaA | Cellvento media, Mobius bioreactors, Daejeon production centre | 7.5% | USD 234.5 million |
| FUJIFILM Biosciences | Cell culture media, including HEK293 perfusion media | 3.5% | USD 109.4 million |
| Eppendorf | BioFlo and BioBLU bench and pilot bioreactors | 1.5% | USD 46.9 million |
| Repligen | XCell ATF perfusion cell retention | 1.2% | USD 37.5 million |
| Other suppliers and service labs | OPM Biosciences, Duoning Biotechnology, Ajinomoto, Corning, Getinge, cell line developers | 44.0% | USD 1.38 billion |

All shares are Douglas Insights estimates because no supplier reports regional upstream revenue alone. Sartorius reported 2025 Asia Pacific sales of EUR 820 million, up 8.9%, within group sales of EUR 3,538 million and Bioprocess Solutions sales of EUR 2,865 million, its [preliminary results of 3 February 2026](https://www.sartorius.com/en/company/newsroom/corporate-news/preliminary-full-year-results-2025-sartorius-group-1793940) show. Applying its Bioprocess Solutions weight and a 41% upstream fraction gives about USD 308 million, within 0.5% of our USD 306.4 million estimate. Merck KGaA committed more than EUR 300 million to a bioprocessing production centre in Daejeon for dry powder cell culture media, process liquids and sterile sampling systems, with about 300 jobs by the end of 2028, its [announcement of 20 March 2024](https://www.emdgroup.com/en/news/bioprocessing-production-center-daejong-20-03-2024) states.

The field is less concentrated than worldwide because Chinese suppliers win on price inside China. OPM Biosciences sells chemically defined media to Chinese biotechs, Duoning Biotechnology sells single-use bioreactors and bags, and both gained share as buyers looked for local supply after 2020. In Japan, Ajinomoto and FUJIFILM Biosciences hold media positions with domestic pharma groups. Western suppliers still dominate commercial antibody lines in Korea and Singapore, where switching a qualified medium after approval needs a regulatory filing. The single-use supply chain is sized in our [Biopharmaceutical Single-Use Bioprocessing Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/biopharmaceutical-single-use-bioprocessing-market/) report.

## What does upstream bioprocessing cost per bioreactor litre in Asia Pacific?

An Asia Pacific biologics plant spent USD 1,302.8 per installed litre on upstream bioprocessing in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, 13.9% below the USD 1,512.6 world average, because stainless trains hold 62.0% of regional litres.

| Plant type | Typical use | Spend per litre a year | Share of 2025 litres | Share of 2025 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Large stainless fed-batch | Commercial antibodies and biosimilars at 10,000 to 20,000 litres | USD 750 to 1,100, average USD 900 | 62.0% | 42.8% |
| Single-use fed-batch | Clinical and launch volumes at 50 to 5,000 litres | USD 1,400 to 2,100, average USD 1,650 | 33.0% | 41.8% |
| Perfusion and intensified | Continuous antibodies, viral vectors, cell therapy | USD 3,500 and above, average USD 4,000 | 5.0% | 15.4% |

The weighted average, 0.62 x 900 + 0.33 x 1,650 + 0.05 x 4,000, gives USD 1,302.5 per litre, within 0.03% of the model figure. Korean stainless plants sit at the bottom of the range because they buy media at bulk prices and replace hardware rarely; Singapore and Japanese single-use suites sit in the middle; perfusion work for viral vectors in China and Japan sits above USD 3,500. Spend per litre reaches about USD 1,335 in 2026 and USD 1,666 in 2035, close to the U.S. average of USD 1,645 in 2025, as single-use suites gain share.

Local supply caps the price leg. Chinese media and single-use bags list 20% to 40% below imported equivalents, a Douglas Insights estimate, and Merck KGaA's Daejeon centre will make media inside Korea. Amino acids and dipeptide feeds, sized in our [Glycyl-L-Tyrosine Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/glycyl-l-tyrosine-market/) report, are the main cost inputs behind media prices.

## Which rules shape Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing: NMPA's 30-day pathway, Biopharma SHAKTI or BIOSECURE?

Three rule sets shape Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing most: NMPA's 30-working-day clinical trial pathway of 9 September 2025, India's Biopharma SHAKTI of February 2026, and the U.S. BIOSECURE Act of 18 December 2025.

China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) will review eligible Class I innovative drug applications for clinical trials within 30 working days of acceptance, under announcement No. 86 of 2025, provided the sponsor starts the trial within 12 weeks of approval, the [NMPA notice](https://english.nmpa.gov.cn/2025-10/14/c_1132769.htm) states. Faster trial starts bring forward the order for clinical-scale media, cell lines and single-use bags, so Chinese biotechs reach a 2,000-litre suite sooner. Douglas Insights treats the pathway as part of the 2.20-point China driver.

India's Biopharma SHAKTI targets talent, trial sites and regulators rather than plants, but more than 1,000 accredited trial sites and faster CDSCO review shorten the path from cell line to commercial batch. The guideline [ICH Q5A(R2)](https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/ich-q5ar2-guideline-viral-safety-evaluation-biotechnology-products-derived-cell-lines-human-or-animal-origin-scientific-guideline) on viral safety, issued by the International Council for Harmonisation, whose members include the regulators of Japan, China and South Korea, keeps supplier changes slow: a medium of animal origin, or a new cell bank, means new viral clearance data. BIOSECURE works from outside the region, moving U.S. sponsor work from Chinese contract makers towards Korea, Japan and India over the five-year grandfathering period after final rules.

## What if Korea's new plants fill early: how large is Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing in 2035?

Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing ends 2035 between USD 7.37 billion and USD 10.5 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 8.88 billion. The pace at which new litres fill sets most of the spread.

| Case | Litre leg | Spend per litre leg | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 6.60% | 2.20% | USD 7.37 billion |
| Base case | 8.30% | 2.49% | USD 8.88 billion |
| Faster | 9.80% | 2.80% | USD 10.5 billion |

In the slower case Chinese biotech funding stays thin, BIOSECURE final rules reach equipment suppliers, and Korean plants fill more slowly than Samsung Biologics' first four did. In the faster case Plant 5, Celltrion's Plants 4 and 5 and Lotte's Plant 1 run full by 2030, India's biosimilar makers double their capacity, and Singapore draws Western sponsors leaving China. One extra point of yearly litre growth adds about USD 852 million to 2035 value.

Our 11.0% matches the Asia Pacific row of the Douglas Insights worldwide model and sits well above the 7.86% in our [U.S. Upstream Bioprocessing Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/u-s-upstream-bioprocessing-market/) report, because the region adds litres 2.90 points a year faster than the United States while spending less per litre.

| 24 March 2026 | Celltrion Plants 4 and 5, KRW 1.2265 trillion | 180,000 litres in Songdo |
| 24 March 2026 | WuXi Biologics 2025 revenue +16.7% | 209 new projects in China |
| 21 June 2026 | Lotte Biologics Songdo Plant 1 complete | 120,000 litres in Songdo |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: three Songdo projects of 2025 and 2026 add 480,000 litres, 20.0% of the region's 2025 culture base, worth about USD 625 million a year of upstream spend at the regional average. That is more than the whole 2025 Indian and Singapore and Southeast Asian markets combined, USD 594.1 million. Korea holds 24.0% of 2025 regional value but supplies 25.4% of the USD 5.75 billion the region adds by 2035, while China's share of new value, 33.1%, falls below its 35.0% share of today's market.

The ledger explains two choices in this report. We set Korea at 11.4% because its new litres are already built and contracted, and we hold China at 10.6% because its growth depends on new programmes rather than new steel. Suppliers with media plants and service teams inside Korea, as Merck KGaA and Cytiva are building, are best placed to win the largest single block of new volume in the region.

## How does the methodology turn 2.40 million litres into USD 3.13 billion of upstream bioprocessing?

Our methodology multiplies 2.40 million litres of installed culture capacity in 2025 by USD 1,302.8 of upstream spend per litre to reach USD 3.13 billion. Litres come from seven country plant builds; spend per litre from three plant types.

The model covers 7 countries or sub-regions, 5 products, 3 cell types, 3 workflows, 3 end users and 3 plant types, and uses 84 data points, 19 sourced and 65 modelled. Arithmetic: 2.40 million x USD 1,302.8 = USD 3.13 billion; USD 3.13 billion x (1.0830 x 1.0249)^10 = USD 8.88 billion. Litres reach 2.60 million in 2026 and 5.33 million in 2035; the 2026 value is USD 3.47 billion.

Two cross-checks agree. First, USD 3.13 billion, USD 3.47 billion and USD 8.88 billion equal the Asia Pacific row of our worldwide model, which puts the region at 25.6% of world value with 29.7% of world culture litres, consistent with a lower spend per litre. Second, our Sartorius estimate of USD 306.4 million matches the USD 308 million implied by its reported Asia Pacific sales. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## What counts in the Asia Pacific upstream bioprocessing study, and what is excluded?

This study counts revenue from upstream products and services used to grow cells for biologics in Asia Pacific. Downstream purification, fill-finish, analytical testing and contract manufacturing fees are excluded.

The by-product split covers cell culture media and supplements, bioreactors and fermenters, single-use upstream bags and assemblies, cell line development services, and upstream sensors and probes. The by-workflow split covers media preparation, cell culture and cell separation; the by-cell-type split covers mammalian cells, microbial cells, and insect and other cells; the by-end-user split covers biopharmaceutical companies, CDMOs, and academic and research institutes; the by-country split covers China, South Korea, Japan, India, Singapore and Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and the rest of the region. Spend is counted where the plant is, so a Korean CDMO's media purchases for a U.S. sponsor count here. Chromatography resins, purification filters and finished drug sales are excluded; medicine sales in the region are sized in our [Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Drug Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/asia-pacific-pharmaceutical-drug-market/) report.
