Yamaha will fit the Siren 3 Pro connected-boat system as standard on its Digital Electronic Control outboard kits from model year 2027, its [announcement of 30 July 2026](https://yamahaoutboards.com/newsroom/company-news/siren-3-pro-now-standard-with-yamaha-digital-electronic-control-outboard-kits) states, turning remote monitoring from an accessory into factory equipment on thousands of new boats. The boat monitoring systems market covers the hubs, sensors, telematics gateways, cellular and satellite plans, apps and installation that let an owner or fleet manager watch a boat's location, bilge, batteries, shore power, engines and security from a phone. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 896 million in 2025, about 1.60 million connected boats at an average USD 560 of annual revenue each, and at USD 2.46 billion in 2035, a 10.63% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The study sits beside our [Integrated Marine Automation System Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/integrated-marine-automation-system-market/), [Autonomous Marine Vehicles Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/autonomous-marine-vehicles-market/) and [Underwater Robotics Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/underwater-robotics-market/) reports; every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which boat monitoring component earns the most: hubs and sensors, subscriptions, OEM gateways or installation?

Monitoring hubs and sensors earn the most, 44.0% of 2025 boat monitoring value or about USD 394 million, Douglas Insights estimates. Connectivity and app subscriptions grow fastest, 12.6% a year to USD 969 million by 2035.

| Component | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Monitoring hubs and sensors | 44.0% | USD 394 million | 9.6% | USD 986 million |
| Connectivity and app subscriptions | 33.0% | USD 296 million | 12.6% | USD 969 million |
| OEM engine and vessel telematics gateways | 15.0% | USD 134 million | 11.0% | USD 382 million |
| Installation and support services | 8.0% | USD 72 million | 7.0% | USD 141 million |

Hubs and sensors lead because every connected boat starts with a box: a cellular or Wi-Fi hub wired to the battery bank, plus wireless bilge, door, motion, temperature and shore-power sensors. Siren Marine, owned by Yamaha, sells its Siren 3 hub at USD 299.99 and the Siren 3 Pro at USD 799.99, its [hardware page](https://www.sirenmarine.com/pages/hardware) shows, and Douglas Insights estimates about 410,000 hubs were sold worldwide in 2025 at an average USD 960 including sensors. Hub and sensor value grows 9.6% a year to USD 986 million, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Subscriptions, USD 296 million, grow fastest at 12.6% because every hub needs a data plan and the installed base compounds. OEM engine and vessel telematics gateways, USD 134 million, grow 11.0% as builders wire NMEA 2000 networks and digital switching into the hull at the factory. Installation and support, USD 72 million, grows a slower 7.0% because factory fitting removes dealer labour hours. Component values for 2035 sum to USD 2.48 billion, 0.64% above the headline.

## Which boats carry monitoring systems: powerboats under 40 feet, yachts, sailboats or commercial and charter craft?

Powerboats under 40 feet take the most, 52.0% of 2025 value or about USD 466 million, Douglas Insights estimates. Small commercial and charter craft grow fastest, 12.8% a year from USD 143 million to USD 478 million by 2035.

| Boat type | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Powerboats under 40 feet | 52.0% | USD 466 million | 10.2% | USD 1.23 billion |
| Yachts 40 feet and over | 23.0% | USD 206 million | 10.4% | USD 554 million |
| Sailboats | 9.0% | USD 81 million | 8.8% | USD 187 million |
| Small commercial, charter and club fleets | 16.0% | USD 143 million | 12.8% | USD 478 million |

Powerboats under 40 feet lead because they are most of the fleet. The US had 11,674,073 registered recreational vessels in 2024, the [US Coast Guard's statistics of 1 July 2025](https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/4231745/) show, and 95% of boats in use are under 26 feet, the [National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) release of January 2026](https://www.nmma.org/press/article/25352) states. Douglas Insights estimates that about 6% of US registered boats were connected in 2025, so under-40-foot value grows 10.2% a year to USD 1.23 billion as that share climbs.

Yachts of 40 feet and over, USD 206 million, carry the most sensors per hull and grow 10.4%. Sailboats, USD 81 million, grow 8.8% on battery and anchor-watch use. Commercial, charter and club fleets, USD 143 million, grow fastest at 12.8%: Brunswick's Freedom Boat Club ran 442 locations and more than 640,000 member trips in 2025, its [results of 29 January 2026](https://www.brunswick.com/investors/sec-filings/all-sec-filings/content/0000014930-26-000004/q42025exhibit99_1.htm) show, and shared fleets need tracking on every hull. Boat-type values for 2035 sum to USD 2.45 billion, 0.46% below the headline.

## What drives boat monitoring demand: factory fitting, theft and sinking protection, connectivity or boat electrification?

Connected boats rise 9.0% a year in our base case, from about 1.60 million in 2025 to about 3.79 million in 2035. Four drivers add 10.40 points of gross growth; three restraints remove 1.40 points.

### Factory fitting by engine makers and builders: 3.60 points

Factory fitting is the largest driver, worth 3.60 points. More than 30 boat builders across 35 brands already fit Siren as standard, Yamaha's [app update release of 8 April 2026](https://yamahaoutboards.com/newsroom/company-news/siren-marine-announces-major-update-to-connected-boat-mobile-app-expanding-personalized-boating-exp) states, and the Siren 3 Pro joins Yamaha Digital Electronic Control kits from model year 2027, per its [30 July 2026 release](https://yamahaoutboards.com/newsroom/company-news/siren-3-pro-now-standard-with-yamaha-digital-electronic-control-outboard-kits). Douglas Insights estimates that about 22% of new US powerboats left the factory with a connected monitoring system in 2025 and about 40% will by 2028, adding roughly 60,000 factory-fitted hulls a year in the US alone.

### Theft, sinking and battery protection: 2.40 points

Protection adds 2.40 points. The Coast Guard counted 3,887 recreational boating incidents in 2024, including 162 with flooding and 262 with swamping as the primary event, and USD 88.3 million of property damage, its [2024 statistics of 1 July 2025](https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/4231745/) show. BoatUS handled 111,928 towing requests a year, with 9% caused by battery or electrical failure, its [By the Numbers release of 30 July 2025](https://boatus.geico.com/News-Room/release/boatus-by-the-numbers-2025) states. Douglas Insights estimates that a USD 300 hub with a USD 225 annual plan costs less than 1% of the value of a typical USD 60,000 boat each year.

### Cellular, 5G and satellite coverage: 2.20 points

Connectivity adds 2.20 points. The Siren 3 Pro runs on 4G, 5G and LTE, with an optional SirenSat satellite add-on for offshore use, Yamaha's [30 July 2026 release](https://yamahaoutboards.com/newsroom/company-news/siren-3-pro-now-standard-with-yamaha-digital-electronic-control-outboard-kits) states, and SirenSat costs USD 350 for one year on top of a cellular plan, the [Siren subscriptions page](https://www.sirenmarine.com/collections/subscriptions) shows. Douglas Insights estimates that satellite back-up lifts annual revenue per offshore boat by about 60%, and that about 8% of connected boats will carry a satellite link by 2030, up from about 3% in 2025.

### Boat electrification and digital switching: 2.20 points

Electrification adds the last 2.20 points. Lithium battery banks, inverters, electric HVAC and digital switching need constant watching, and Siren Marine and Dometic launched cloud-based control of marine air conditioning on the Siren 3 Pro, their [release of 7 October 2025](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20251007662539/en/Siren-Marine-Collaborates-with-Dometic-to-Introduce-Connected-Boat-Cloud-Based-HVAC-Control) states. Teledyne added the Maretron Octoplex, MPower and MConnect vessel-monitoring lines to Raymarine, its [release of 1 July 2025](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250701081327/en/Teledyne-Acquires-Maretron) shows. Douglas Insights estimates that a boat with a lithium house bank carries about 1.8 times the sensor count of a lead-acid boat. Summed, 3.60 + 2.40 + 2.20 + 2.20 = 10.40 points, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## What holds boat monitoring growth back: weak new-boat sales, subscription churn or network sunsets?

Three restraints remove 1.40 points a year from connected-boat growth: weak new-boat retail sales take 0.60 points, subscription churn 0.50 points and cellular network sunsets 0.30 points.

Weak new-boat sales are the heaviest drag because factory fitting rides on new hulls. US new powerboat retail sales fell about 8% to 10% to an estimated 215,000 to 225,000 units in 2025, and about 80% of US boat sales were pre-owned, the [NMMA release of January 2026](https://www.nmma.org/press/article/25352) states; US recreational marine retail spending fell to USD 54 billion in 2025 from USD 55.6 billion, its [release of 6 July 2026](https://www.nmma.org/press/article/25545) shows. Dometic's Marine segment sales fell to SEK 4.81 billion in 2025 from SEK 5.57 billion, with organic growth of minus 6%, its [year-end report of 28 January 2026](https://mb.cision.com/Main/10773/4298373/3901987.pdf) shows.

Subscription churn takes 0.50 points: seasonal owners cancel plans over winter, and Siren sells a USD 150 seasonal plan beside its USD 225 annual plan, its [subscriptions page](https://www.sirenmarine.com/collections/subscriptions) shows, a sign that many boats go dark for months. Douglas Insights estimates that about 15% of connected boats drop their plan each year. Network sunsets take the last 0.30 points: German operators plan to switch off 2G between June and December 2028, the [Bundesnetzagentur](https://www.bundesnetzagentur.de/DE/Fachthemen/Telekommunikation/Breitband/2GAbschaltung/artikel.html) states, stranding older 2G trackers that owners must replace before buying new sensors, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## Which region buys the most boat monitoring systems, and where does demand grow fastest?

North America buys the most boat monitoring systems, USD 412 million or 46.0% of 2025 value, and Asia Pacific grows fastest, 13.5% a year from USD 117 million to USD 413 million by 2035.

| Region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| North America | USD 412 million | 46.0% | USD 453 million | 10.0% | USD 1.07 billion |
| Europe | USD 287 million | 32.0% | USD 317 million | 10.4% | USD 771 million |
| Asia Pacific | USD 117 million | 13.0% | USD 132 million | 13.5% | USD 413 million |
| Latin America | USD 36 million | 4.0% | USD 40 million | 11.0% | USD 102 million |
| Middle East and Africa | USD 45 million | 5.0% | USD 50 million | 12.5% | USD 146 million |

North America leads because it holds the largest fleet: 11.67 million registered recreational vessels, per the [US Coast Guard](https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/4231745/), about 85 million Americans boating each year and USD 24.5 billion of 2024 aftermarket accessory and outing spending, per the [NMMA's January 2026 release](https://www.nmma.org/press/article/25352). Regional value grows 10.0% a year to USD 1.07 billion, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Europe, USD 287 million, grows 10.4%: it has more than 6 million boats, 10,000 marinas and more than 1 million berths, the [European Boating Industry facts page](https://europeanboatingindustry.eu/about-the-industry/facts-and-figures) states, and Sentinel Marine prices its bundles in euros. Asia Pacific, USD 117 million, grows fastest at 13.5% on Australian, Japanese and Chinese yacht fleets. Latin America, USD 36 million, grows 11.0%, and the Middle East and Africa, USD 45 million, grows 12.5% on Gulf superyacht and charter marinas. Regional values sum to USD 992 million in 2026, 0.10% above the headline, and USD 2.50 billion in 2035, 1.58% above it.

## Which companies lead the boat monitoring systems market?

Yamaha, through Siren Marine, leads boat monitoring with about 14% of 2025 value, Douglas Insights estimates, ahead of Garmin at about 10%, Brunswick's Navico Group and Mercury at about 9%, and Teledyne's Raymarine at about 6%.

| Company | Monitoring lines | Latest reported figure | Source date |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Yamaha (Siren Marine) | Siren 3, Siren 3 Pro, SirenSat | Standard at 30+ builders across 35 brands | 8 April 2026 |
| Garmin | OnDeck, OnBoard, chartplotter networks | Q3 2026 Marine revenue USD 309.9 million, up 16% | 28 October 2026 |
| Brunswick (Navico Group, Mercury) | Simrad, Lowrance, B&G, VesselView | Q3 2026 Navico Group sales USD 197.7 million, up 5.8% | 29 October 2026 |
| Teledyne (Raymarine, Maretron) | Octoplex, MPower, MConnect | Maretron lines acquired from Littelfuse | 1 July 2025 |
| Dometic | Marine HVAC and power, Siren-linked control | 2025 Marine sales SEK 4.81 billion, organic minus 6% | 28 January 2026 |

Garmin's Marine segment grew 10% to USD 1.18 billion in 2025, its [results of 18 February 2026](https://www8.garmin.com/aboutGarmin/invRelations/reports/2025_Q4_Earnings_Press_Release.pdf) show, and 16% to USD 309.9 million in the third quarter of 2026, with year-to-date Marine revenue of USD 1.01 billion, up 14%, its [results of 28 October 2026](https://s25.q4cdn.com/374139208/files/content_files/2026_Q3_Earnings_Press_Release.pdf) show. Its OnDeck plan costs USD 12.99 a month on the annual plan or USD 19.99 monthly, a [Garmin page](https://garmin.com/en-US/blog/?p=32484) states.

Brunswick's Navico Group sold USD 800.4 million in 2025, flat, within group net sales of USD 5.36 billion, its [29 January 2026 results](https://www.brunswick.com/investors/sec-filings/all-sec-filings/content/0000014930-26-000004/q42025exhibit99_1.htm) show, and Navico rose 5.8% to USD 197.7 million in the third quarter of 2026 with "sales increased across all business lines", its [results filed on 29 October 2026](https://last10k.com/sec-filings/bc/0000014930-26-000130.htm) state. Sentinel Marine, Yacht Sentinel, GOST, Volvo Penta, Victron Energy and many regional installers share the remaining 61%, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## How much does boat monitoring cost, from a basic hub to a full vessel system?

A connected boat brings an average USD 560 of annual revenue in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, from about USD 300 for a hub-only owner to more than USD 3,000 for a yacht with engine watch, comfort controls and satellite back-up.

The price ladder runs from hardware to plan. Siren sells cellular plans at USD 22 a month, USD 150 a season, USD 225 a year, USD 575 for three years or USD 900 for five, the [Siren subscriptions page](https://www.sirenmarine.com/collections/subscriptions) shows. Sentinel Marine prices bundles from EUR 699 for SafeGuard to EUR 2,599 for Flagship, including EUR 769 for Analog Engine Watch and EUR 1,179 for Digital Engine Watch, with annual renewals of EUR 150, EUR 224 or EUR 310 from year two, its [pricing page](https://www.sentinelmarine.net/pricing) shows.

Average revenue per boat rises 1.5% a year in the base case, to about USD 650 in 2035, because multi-year plans, satellite add-ons and engine data packages lift the mix while hub prices fall. A five-year Siren plan works out at USD 180 a year against USD 264 for twelve monthly payments, a 32% saving that locks owners in, a Douglas Insights calculation. Douglas Insights estimates that recurring plans made about 33% of 2025 revenue and will make about 39% by 2035, so value per connected boat shifts from a one-off box to an annuity.

## What if new-boat sales stay weak or factory fitting spreads faster: how large is the boat monitoring market in 2035?

The boat monitoring systems market ends 2035 between USD 1.77 billion and USD 3.41 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 2.46 billion. Factory-fit adoption and plan retention set most of the spread.

| Case | Unit leg | Price leg | Revenue rate | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 6.50% | 0.50% | 7.03% | USD 1.77 billion |
| Base case | 9.00% | 1.50% | 10.63% | USD 2.46 billion |
| Faster | 11.50% | 2.50% | 14.29% | USD 3.41 billion |

In the slower case US new powerboat units stay near 220,000 a year to 2030, other engine makers do not follow Yamaha into standard fitting and churn rises to about 20%, taking 2.5 points off connected-boat growth and 1.0 point off revenue per boat. In the faster case two more outboard makers fit monitoring as standard by 2029 and satellite add-ons spread, adding 2.5 points of boats and 1.0 point of revenue per boat. One extra point of yearly revenue growth adds about USD 230 million to 2035 value, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Live signals sit between base and faster. Garmin's 16% third-quarter Marine growth, Navico's 5.8% rise and Brunswick's 9.5% Boat segment gain in the third quarter of 2026 point up; the 8% to 10% fall in 2025 new powerboat units points down. The signal to watch is model-year 2027 retail: if Yamaha's factory-fitted Siren units reach dealers on schedule, Douglas Insights would raise OEM gateway growth by about 1 point.

## Which rules shape boat monitoring, from engine cut-off switches to EU radio cybersecurity?

Three rule sets shape boat monitoring: the US engine cut-off switch rule in force since 1 April 2021, the EU Radio Equipment Directive cybersecurity rules applying from 1 August 2025, and national 2G and 3G network shutdowns.

The safety layer pulls electronics aboard. Since 1 April 2021 operators of US recreational vessels under 26 feet with engines of 3 horsepower or more must use an engine cut-off switch when on plane, and wireless switches are allowed, the [Coast Guard notice of 17 March 2021](https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/USDHSCG/bulletins/2c7a930) states; Garmin's OnBoard wireless man-overboard and cut-off system, named in its [18 February 2026 results](https://www8.garmin.com/aboutGarmin/invRelations/reports/2025_Q4_Earnings_Press_Release.pdf), links that duty to the same networked hardware.

The radio layer adds cost. Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30, adopted on 29 October 2021, activates the Radio Equipment Directive's network, privacy and fraud protection requirements, the [EUR-Lex text](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg_del/2022/30/oj) shows, and it applies from 1 August 2025 to every cellular or Wi-Fi boat hub sold in the EU. The network layer forces upgrades: UK operators will switch off 2G by 2033 at the latest, [Ofcom](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/coverage-and-speeds/3g-switch-off) states. Douglas Insights estimates that compliance testing adds about 2% to 4% to the cost of a European boat hub.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Factory-Fit Conversion Gauge

The Factory-Fit Conversion Gauge is a Douglas Insights model of 10 inputs: 8 company records and 2 official or industry records, listed below. It measures how fast boat monitoring is moving from aftermarket purchase to factory equipment on new hulls.

| Date | Input | What it moves |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 July 2025 | US Coast Guard: 11,674,073 registered vessels in 2024 | Addressable fleet |
| 1 July 2025 | Teledyne buys Maretron monitoring lines | Builder supply |
| 7 October 2025 | Siren Marine and Dometic cloud HVAC control | Revenue per boat |
| January 2026 | NMMA: 2025 new powerboat units 215,000 to 225,000 | New-hull flow |
| 28 January 2026 | Dometic: 2025 Marine organic minus 6% | Builder demand |
| 29 January 2026 | Brunswick: Navico Group flat at USD 800.4 million | Electronics demand |
| 18 February 2026 | Garmin: 2025 Marine up 10% | Electronics demand |
| 8 April 2026 | Siren standard at 30+ builders, 35 brands | Factory fit |
| 30 July 2026 | Siren 3 Pro standard on Yamaha DEC kits from MY2027 | Factory fit |
| 28 October 2026 | Garmin: Q3 2026 Marine up 16% | Electronics demand |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: marine electronics sales grew while new-boat units fell, with Garmin Marine up 10% in 2025 against an 8% to 10% fall in US new powerboat units. That gap is retrofit and factory content, not hull volume. Applied to monitoring, factory-fitted systems made about 30% of 2025 connected-boat additions and will make about 50% by 2028 as Yamaha's DEC kits ship, lifting OEM gateway and subscription value faster than hub sales.

The gauge changes how to read new-boat statistics. A 10% fall in new hulls used to mean a 10% fall in electronics; with factory fit rising, Douglas Insights estimates that each 10% fall in new hulls now removes only about 3% from monitoring revenue, because the installed base keeps paying plans and pre-owned buyers, about 80% of the market, keep retrofitting.

## How does the methodology turn 1.60 million connected boats into USD 896 million?

Our methodology multiplies about 1.60 million connected boats in 2025 by an average USD 560 of annual revenue each to reach USD 896 million, then grows boats 9.0% a year and revenue per boat 1.5% a year.

The model covers 4 components, 4 boat types and 5 regions, using 58 data points, 22 sourced and 36 modelled. Boats come from a regional build: about 760,000 connected boats in North America, 500,000 in Europe, 210,000 in Asia Pacific, 60,000 in Latin America and 70,000 in the Middle East and Africa, Douglas Insights estimates drawn from registered fleets and vendor disclosures. Arithmetic: 1.60 million x USD 560 = USD 896 million; USD 896 million x (1.090 x 1.015)^10 = USD 2.46 billion. Connected boats reach about 1.74 million in 2026 and 3.79 million in 2035.

Two cross-checks agree. First, our 760,000 North American connected boats equal about 6.5% of the 11.67 million US registered vessels, consistent with a product that more than 30 builders have only recently made standard. Second, our 10% Garmin share equals about USD 90 million, about 7.6% of its USD 1.18 billion 2025 Marine revenue, a plausible share for connected hubs and plans inside a business led by chartplotters and sonar. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## What counts in the boat monitoring systems study, and what is excluded?

The boat monitoring systems study counts monitoring hubs and sensors, OEM telematics gateways, connectivity and app subscriptions, and installation for recreational boats and small commercial craft. Chartplotters, sonar, radar, ship bridge systems and large-vessel automation are excluded.

The study splits value by 4 components, 4 boat types and 5 regions: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. Ship-scale control appears in our [Integrated Marine Automation System Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/integrated-marine-automation-system-market/) report, uncrewed craft in the [Autonomous Marine Vehicles Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/autonomous-marine-vehicles-market/) study and subsea vehicles in the [Underwater Robotics Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/underwater-robotics-market/) report.
