Is the brain health supplements market worth entering? Yes: USD 9.19 billion of spend in 2025 rises to USD 20.48 billion by 2035, a revenue CAGR of 8.35% a year. Brain health supplements are capsules, gummies, powders and drinks sold to support memory, focus, mood and sleep; the market covers natural molecules, herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals and other ingredients sold over the counter. Our receipt: 101.6 million regular users times USD 90.45 of average yearly spend equals USD 9.19 billion. The newest signal is a [prospectus filed with the SEC](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1679628/000149315225028613/form424b3.htm) dated 11 December 2025, in which Jupiter Neurosciences says its Nugevia MND formula for cognitive resilience is on sale direct to consumers. The study belongs to the [functional ingredients](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/food-beverages/food-ingredients/functional-ingredients/) hub and follows the [Douglas Insights research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## How much do buyers pay for a month of brain health supplements?

USD 7.54 a month is the average realised spend per brain health supplements user in 2025, or USD 90.45 a year. Premium memory brands sell far higher, at about USD 39.95 for 30 capsules, but most users buy cheaper omega-3 or fish oil and pause between bottles, which pulls the blended average down.

The anchor price comes from the [AARP brain health and dietary supplements fact sheet](https://www.aarp.org/content/dam/aarp/research/surveys_statistics/health/2021/brain-health-and-dietary-supplements-fact-sheet-omni.doi.10.26419-2Fres.00318.003.pdf), which lists a 30-day supply of Prevagen at USD 39.95. That is USD 1.33 a day, or USD 486.06 if a user never skipped a day for a year. The same 2021 survey found that 57% of brain supplement users took omega-3 and 44% took fish oil, both sold in the mass channel at a fraction of that price.

Douglas Insights estimates three realised price bands for brain health supplements. Mass vitamins, minerals and fish oil sell at about USD 8 to USD 15 a month. Branded nootropic blends with a single hero ingredient sit at USD 25 to USD 45. Clinic and direct-to-consumer formulas built on patented ingredients clear USD 50 a month. Price is the smaller leg. Our model lifts the yearly spend per user by 2.6% a year, to USD 116.92 by 2035, as gummies, liposomal packets and mushroom blends take share from plain tablets.

## Which ingredient type makes the money in brain health supplements?

Natural molecules lead brain health supplements with 41.7% of 2025 value, or USD 3.83 billion. Omega-3 fatty acids, phosphatidylserine and citicoline carry that lead because they are the ingredients most users already buy, while herbal extracts grow fastest at 9.62% a year.

| Ingredient type | Share of 2025 value | 2025 value | Growth a year, 2026-2035 | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Natural molecules | 41.7% | USD 3.83 billion | 8.05% | USD 8.31 billion |
| Herbal extracts | 33.6% | USD 3.09 billion | 9.62% | USD 7.74 billion |
| Vitamins and minerals | 18.9% | USD 1.74 billion | 6.41% | USD 3.23 billion |
| Other ingredients | 5.8% | USD 533.0 million | 8.48% | USD 1.20 billion |

Natural molecules hold USD 3.83 billion because omega-3 is the habit purchase: 57% of brain supplement users in the AARP sample took it. Herbal extracts, worth USD 3.09 billion, take 33.6% because ginkgo, bacopa, lion's mane and ashwagandha fill most new launches. Vitamins and minerals, at USD 1.74 billion, keep 18.9% on the strength of B vitamins, iron and iodine, the only nutrients here with authorised cognitive wording in Europe. Other ingredients, at USD 533.0 million, cover caffeine and L-theanine stacks, creatine and apoaequorin, the protein in Prevagen.

Herbal extracts are the fastest brain health supplements segment, at 9.62% a year to USD 7.74 billion. Mushroom and adaptogen formats are the reason: our count of 15 cognitive launches in a June 2026 trade review finds lion's mane in 7 of them. Vitamins and minerals grow slowest, at 6.41%.

## Why are brain health supplements gaining users after age 50?

Douglas Insights expects regular brain health supplements users to rise from 101.6 million in 2025 to 175.2 million by 2035, a volume leg of 5.6% a year. Three forces add up to that leg: ageing buyers, new formats and Asian online demand.

Ageing buyers give 2.3 points of the 5.6. In the [AARP](https://www.aarp.org/content/dam/aarp/research/surveys_statistics/health/2021/brain-health-and-dietary-supplements-fact-sheet-omni.doi.10.26419-2Fres.00318.003.pdf) survey of 1,039 adults aged 50 and over, fielded in June 2021, 21% took a vitamin or supplement for brain health and nearly 78% took a supplement of some kind. That 57-point gap between general and brain-specific use is the pool brands are fishing in. AARP put Prevagen use at 4% of brain supplement users, which it equated to about 983,000 Americans; scaled up, that implies about 24.6 million brain supplement users aged 50 and over in the United States alone. The weighted base behind those shares is 218 brain supplement users out of 1,039 respondents, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.27 points, so the 21% reading spans about 17% to 25%. Douglas Insights treats the midpoint as the planning number.

New formats give 1.8 points. Gummies, liposomal packets, drink powders and ready-to-drink mushroom lattes turn a pill routine into a snack or a [coffee](https://www.douglasinsights.com/coffee-market/), and they recruit buyers under 40 who never took a capsule for memory. Our count of the same 15 launches finds only 1 soft gel capsule. The [Jupiter Neurosciences prospectus](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1679628/000149315225028613/form424b3.htm) dated 11 December 2025 shows the same shift from a drug developer: Jupiter Neurosciences lists three Nugevia formulas, MND for cognition, GLO and PWR, sold direct to consumers through its own website, with a resveratrol system it says lifts bioavailability nine-fold. Each format switch also lifts spend: a gummy or liposomal pack sells near the USD 25 to USD 45 branded band rather than the USD 8 to USD 15 mass band.

Asian online demand gives 1.5 points. Asia Pacific brain health supplements revenue grows 10.71% a year in our model against 7.32% in North America, because e-commerce reaches first-time buyers in markets where pharmacy shelf space for nootropics is thin. Douglas Insights calculates that Asia Pacific adds USD 4.40 billion of the USD 11.29 billion global gain to 2035, about 39%. Together, 2.3 plus 1.8 plus 1.5 points give the 5.6% volume leg; the 2.6% price leg then lifts revenue to USD 20.48 billion. Sibling categories such as [Nutraceutical Products Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/nutraceutical-products-market/) show the same pull from older shoppers.

## Which claim challenges slow brain health supplement sales?

Weak claim evidence removes about 1.0 point a year from brain health supplements volume in our slower case, which ends at USD 16.26 billion in 2035. Court orders against memory claims, thin trial evidence and price resistance are the three main drags on growth.

Claim enforcement takes 0.6 points. In December 2024 a federal judge in the Southern District of New York, in case 17 Civ. 124, [barred eight marketing statements for Prevagen](https://ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/quincy_order.pdf) and found two statements materially misleading, including the line that Prevagen is clinically shown to reduce memory problems associated with aging. The injunction applies nationwide. Brands that sell on clinical memory promises now carry a legal cost that a generic omega-3 does not.

Evidence gaps take 0.4 points. The AARP sample showed 21% use for brain health against 78% use of any supplement, so 57 of every 100 supplement takers aged 50 and over still pass on the brain aisle. Douglas Insights reckons that gap closes only when a brand shows a trial result a physician will repeat, and few ingredients have that yet.

Price resistance is a third, smaller drag of about 0.7 points on the price leg. A buyer paying USD 39.95 a month for a branded memory formula pays more than five times the USD 7.54 average, and churn rises after the first two bottles.

## Who wins shelf space in brain health supplements, from Prevagen to Neuriva?

Douglas Insights estimates Quincy Bioscience holds at most a 5.1% share of 2025 brain health supplements value through Prevagen, the largest single brand we can size. The field is fragmented: no other company has a disclosed brain health revenue line.

The 5.1% figure is an upper bound. It multiplies AARP's 983,000 Prevagen users by the USD 39.95 list price for 12 months, giving USD 471.3 million, and the [December 2024 court order](https://ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/quincy_order.pdf) since narrowed what the brand can say. Six other companies matter for brain health supplements buyers.

| Company | Brain health brand or line | What the position is built on |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Quincy Bioscience | Prevagen | Apoaequorin protein, used by 4% of brain supplement users aged 50+ |
| Reckitt | Neuriva | Neuriva Plus and a Relax and Sleep line extension |
| Nestle Health Science | Nature's Bounty, Solgar | Vitamin and omega-3 brands bought from The Bountiful Company |
| Jupiter Neurosciences | Nugevia MND | Resveratrol delivery system, direct-to-consumer launch |
| Cymbiotika | Brain Complex | Liposomal single-serve packets with bacopa and lion's mane |
| Vitabiotics | Ultra Mushroom 6-in-1 gummies | Vegan six-mushroom gummy with B vitamins and zinc |

Nestle Health Science gained scale in vitamins and omega-3 when it agreed on 30 April 2021 to buy Nature's Bounty, Solgar, Puritan's Pride, Sundown, Ester-C and Osteo Bi-Flex, per the [Nestle Health Science release](https://mastercorporate.nestlehealthscience.com/newsroom/press-releases/nestle-completes-acquisition-of-the-bountiful-company-core-brands). Reckitt sells Neuriva Plus and Neuriva Relax and Sleep. Onnit Labs, Natural Factors and HVMN also appear on most competitor lists, and Cymbiotika's liposomal Brain Complex adds huperzine A and gotu kola to bacopa and lion's mane.

## Where do brain health supplement users concentrate by region?

North America leads brain health supplements with USD 3.62 billion in 2025, 39.4% of value, and reaches USD 7.34 billion by 2035. High per-user spend and the deepest pharmacy shelf explain the lead; Asia Pacific grows fastest at 10.71% a year.

North America grows 7.32% a year on its base of about 24.6 million older users in the United States. Europe holds USD 2.23 billion, 24.3% of value, and grows 6.87% to USD 4.34 billion, held back by the tight health claim list. Asia Pacific starts at USD 2.49 billion, 27.1% of value, and climbs 10.71% a year to USD 6.89 billion, overtaking nothing but closing most of the gap with North America. Latin America, at USD 514.6 million, grows 9.14% to USD 1.23 billion as online retail widens reach. The Middle East and Africa start smallest at USD 330.9 million and reach USD 683.1 million at 7.52%.

Latin America is the wildcard: a single large pharmacy chain listing a gummy nootropic line would add more than its 5.6% share suggests. Related reading on regional supplement habits sits in our [Beauty Supplements Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/beauty-supplements-market/).

## Which capsule, gummy or powder format suits brain health supplement buyers?

Tablets and capsules still carry about 56 of every 100 dollars spent on brain health supplements in 2025, Douglas Insights calculates, while gummies, powders and drinks share the rest. Formats change faster than ingredients: our count of 15 cognitive launches reviewed in June 2026 finds 3 gummies and 4 powders or drinks.

Tablets and capsules suit omega-3 and Prevagen-style daily routines. Gummies suit younger buyers and B vitamin or mushroom blends; Vitabiotics, Nutrigums and Host Defense all launched gummy brain health supplements. Powders and drinks, such as Spacegoods Hydro Dust and a canned mushroom latte, fold brain health ingredients into a caffeine habit. Liposomal packets, used by Cymbiotika and Virun, are the premium niche.

## Which uses, memory or focus, lead brain health supplement purchases?

Memory support leads brain health supplements purchases, with about 37 of every 100 dollars in our 2025 split, ahead of focus and attention at about 31. Mood and stress and sleep products take the remaining 32 together, and they are the uses growing fastest.

Memory is the oldest claim and the most contested one, as the 2024 Prevagen order showed. Focus and attention suits caffeine, L-theanine and Alpha-GPC stacks such as GHOST Energy Sticks, with 200 mg of caffeine a stick. Mood and stress draws on ashwagandha, which our count finds in 3 of those 15 launches. Sleep is where Reckitt took Neuriva with its Relax and Sleep line, linking brain health supplements to bedtime routines.

## How do pharmacy and online channels split brain health supplement sales?

Pharmacies and drug stores carry about 36% of brain health supplements value in Douglas Insights' 2025 split, online retail about 34% and supermarkets about 21%, with specialist stores taking the last 9%. Online retail gains about 1.2 points of share a year to 2035.

Pharmacies and drug stores keep the older memory buyer and the pharmacist recommendation. Online retail suits direct-to-consumer brands such as Nugevia, which the prospectus says sells through its own website. Supermarkets sell omega-3 and multivitamins at the USD 8 to USD 15 band. Readers tracking botanical channels can compare our [Plant Based Supplement Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/plant-based-supplement-market/).

## What would change the 2035 brain health supplements forecast?

Our base case reaches USD 20.48 billion in 2035, the slower case USD 16.26 billion and the faster case USD 24.76 billion. Each point of brain health supplements user growth is worth about USD 1.94 billion of 2035 revenue, so the volume leg decides the outcome.

Base case: 5.6% user growth and 2.6% price growth, an 8.35% revenue CAGR from USD 9.96 billion in 2026. Slower case: 3.9% user growth and 1.9% price growth, which assumes more memory claims meet the treatment Prevagen received in December 2024. Faster case: 7.1% user growth and 3.1% price growth, which assumes direct-to-consumer launches like Nugevia, filed on 11 December 2025, pull in buyers under 50 at premium prices.

Published forecasts for brain health supplements run from about 7.25% to 9.6% a year, the high figure for the United States alone. At 8.35%, our base case sits in the middle of that range, below the U.S. figure because Europe grows only 6.87%.

## Which rules govern memory claims on brain health supplements?

Two rule sets shape brain health supplements: the US Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 and the EU health claim list. In the United States a brand notifies the FDA within 30 days of using a claim; in Europe only listed claims are lawful.

Under [the FDA structure/function claim rules](https://www.fda.gov/food/nutrition-food-labeling-and-critical-foods/structurefunction-claims), a brain health supplement can describe how a nutrient supports normal structure or function, but the FDA does not pre-approve the wording. The maker must hold substantiation, notify the agency no later than 30 days after marketing, and print a disclaimer that the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Disease claims, such as treating Alzheimer's disease, are reserved for drugs.

In Europe, [Commission Regulation (EU) No 957/2010](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/eur/2010/957/data.htm) of 22 October 2010 authorised the claim that iron contributes to normal cognitive development of children, under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. That is narrow. Herbal extracts and most natural molecules carry no authorised cognitive claim, so European labels lean on general wording.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Brain Health Supplements Cognitive Claim Atlas

The Cognitive Claim Atlas is a Douglas Insights model of brain health supplements built from 11 sourced inputs. They are the FDA claim rule, EU Regulation 957/2010, the 2024 court order, two AARP survey rounds, one SEC prospectus, one Nestle release and four published growth rates. It maps each brain health supplements ingredient type against the claim pathway open to it in the United States and Europe, and weights it by 2025 value.

| Ingredient type | U.S. pathway | EU cognitive claim found | 2025 value | Value without an EU cognitive claim |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Natural molecules | Structure/function, 30-day notice | None in Regulation 957/2010 | USD 3.83 billion | USD 3.83 billion |
| Herbal extracts | Structure/function, 30-day notice | None in Regulation 957/2010 | USD 3.09 billion | USD 3.09 billion |
| Vitamins and minerals | Structure/function, 30-day notice | Iron, cognitive development of children | USD 1.74 billion | Partly covered |
| Other ingredients | Structure/function, 30-day notice | None in Regulation 957/2010 | USD 533.0 million | USD 533.0 million |

The finding: 81.1% of brain health supplements value, USD 7.45 billion, sits in ingredient types that hold no cognitive claim in the EU regulation we read. In the United States all four types use the same structure/function route, so the legal risk there is substantiation, as the Prevagen case showed, not the claim list. The atlas explains why Europe grows 6.87% against 10.71% in Asia Pacific. It is a model, not an official register.

## Methodology: how do 101.6 million brain health supplement users add up to USD 9.19 billion?

Douglas Insights sizes the brain health supplements market at USD 9.19 billion in 2025 as 101.6 million users times USD 90.45 a year. The model runs across 5 regions, 4 ingredient types and 10 forecast years, with 11 sourced inputs and 4 published growth rates.

Users: AARP's 983,000 Prevagen users at 4% of brain supplement users give about 24.6 million U.S. users aged 50 and over; adding under-50 buyers and scaling by regional user shares gives 101.6 million worldwide. Price: USD 90.45 a year blends mass omega-3 near USD 8 a month with premium blends near USD 39.95. Arithmetic: 101.6 million times USD 90.45 equals USD 9.19 billion; 5.6% and 2.6% legs combine to 8.35% and USD 20.48 billion by 2035.

Cross-checks: published 2025 estimates run from USD 7.20 billion to USD 10.87 billion, so our USD 9.19 billion sits 27.6% above the low figure and 15.5% below the high one. The Prevagen upper bound of USD 471.3 million is 5.1% of our total, consistent with a fragmented field. Regions and segments each sum to the global figure within USD 0.3 million. Iron and folate demand overlaps with our [Iron Supplements Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/iron-supplements-market/).
