## Key takeaways

- 47.32 million door phone endpoints at USD 97.40 each make a USD 4.61 billion market in 2025.
- The market reaches USD 8.07 billion by 2035 at 5.77% a year, from 4.12% volume and 1.58% price growth.
- IP video door entry systems hold 34.7% of value and grow fastest at 8.9% a year.
- Asia Pacific leads with USD 1.92 billion and grows 6.6% a year; Aiphone leads suppliers with about 9.1%.
- EU CRA obligations from 11 December 2027 and the UK regime from 29 April 2024 raise compliance costs for IP door stations.

USD 97.40 is the average a maker or installer realised for one door phone endpoint in 2025, and Douglas Insights puts 47.32 million endpoints through that price. The door phone market covers audio and video door entry and intercom units: outdoor call stations, apartment entrance panels, indoor answering monitors and handsets, guard stations and the lock-release add-ons sold with them. Standalone Wi-Fi video doorbells sold through consumer retail sit outside this scope and belong to the [Smart Home Security Cameras Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/smart-home-security-cameras-market/) study. The arithmetic is 47.32 million endpoints × USD 97.40 = USD 4.61 billion in 2025, rising to USD 8.07 billion by 2035 at a 5.77% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Rules are moving too: the European Union (EU) Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) [entered into force on 10 December 2024](https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/cyber-resilience-act), and its main obligations reach connected door stations on 11 December 2027. The study belongs to the [Smart Home and IoT Devices](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/ict-semiconductors/smart-home-iot-devices/) hub and follows the [Douglas Insights research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## How much does a door phone endpoint cost buyers in 2025?

Douglas Insights calculates a 2025 blended average of USD 97.40 per door phone endpoint across audio handsets, video monitors, outdoor call stations and entrance panels. The spread is wide because a USD 35 audio handset and a USD 1,800 multi-button apartment panel each count as one endpoint, so product mix moves the average more than list prices do.

In the Douglas Insights model, audio-only door phones realise USD 25 to USD 60 per handset or call station. Two-wire video door phone kits, one outdoor station plus one 7-inch monitor, reach installers at USD 140 to USD 380, which is USD 70 to USD 190 per endpoint. Internet Protocol (IP) indoor stations with 7-inch or 10-inch touch screens fetch USD 220 to USD 650. Entrance panels for blocks of 20 to 200 flats run from USD 600 to USD 2,500 before labour.

| Door phone tier | Realised price band (USD) | Typical buyer |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Audio-only handset or call station | 25 to 60 | Retrofit of older flats |
| Two-wire video kit, per endpoint | 70 to 190 | Single-family homes |
| IP indoor station, 7 to 10 inch | 220 to 650 | New apartment projects |
| Multi-apartment entrance panel | 600 to 2,500 | Developers and housing associations |

Price per endpoint rises 1.58% a year in the base case, to USD 113.93 by 2035. Screens and camera modules get cheaper each year, yet the mix keeps shifting toward IP stations, app licences and 4G-connected panels. Mix beats deflation.

## Are video doorbells and access readers inside the door phone scope?

About 7.8% of 2025 door phone value, USD 359.5 million, comes from lock-release and access control add-ons sold inside door entry projects; standalone Wi-Fi doorbells are excluded. The line follows how the product is bought: through an installer and wired to a building, not off a retail shelf.

Three groups of buyers sit inside the door phone count. Single-family homes buy kits of 2 to 4 endpoints. Multi-apartment buildings buy one entrance panel plus 20 to 200 indoor stations. Commercial and institutional buildings, such as schools, clinics and offices, buy IP call stations tied to access control. Broader household spending on alarms and connected devices is covered in the [Home Security Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/home-security-market/) and [Smart Home Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/smart-home-market/) reports.

## Which door phone product type earns the largest share of 2025 value?

IP video door entry systems lead with 34.7% of 2025 door phone value, or USD 1.60 billion, because new apartment projects specify them as standard. They also grow fastest, at 8.9% a year, reaching USD 3.75 billion by 2035 as two-wire estates come up for replacement.

| Segment | Share 2025 | Value 2025 (USD million) | Growth 2026-2035 | Value 2035 (USD million) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| IP video door entry systems | 34.7% | 1,599.3 | 8.9% | 3,751.5 |
| Two-wire and analogue video door phones | 29.4% | 1,355.0 | 3.6% | 1,929.9 |
| Multi-apartment entrance panels and guard stations | 18.3% | 843.4 | 5.2% | 1,400.2 |
| Audio-only door phones | 9.8% | 451.7 | -1.9% | 372.9 |
| Lock-release and access control add-ons | 7.8% | 359.5 | 6.4% | 668.5 |

Two-wire and analogue video door phones hold 29.4%, worth USD 1.36 billion, because two wires reuse the cabling already in millions of homes. Multi-apartment entrance panels and guard stations carry 18.3%, or USD 843.4 million, with high unit prices on low volumes. Audio-only door phones keep 9.8%, USD 451.7 million, and shrink 1.9% a year as video replaces them at each refit. Lock-release and access control add-ons take 7.8%, USD 359.5 million, and grow 6.4% a year as card, code and face readers move into the entrance panel itself.

By technology, IP, two-wire and analogue systems split roughly 35%, 45% and 20% of endpoints in the Douglas Insights count. IP is the fastest riser at 8.9% a year. Power over Ethernet (PoE) removes a separate power supply per indoor station, which is why developers specify it.

## Why are apartment builders and retrofitters buying more door phones?

Volume grows 4.12% a year to 2035, from 47.32 million to 70.86 million door phone endpoints, and four forces explain all of it. Douglas Insights splits the volume leg into apartment retrofit, new housing, connected panels and commercial access, each with its own point contribution.

Retrofit of older apartment blocks adds 1.46 points, the largest share. Buildings wired for audio intercoms in the 1980s and 1990s are switching to video, and one block of 60 flats replaces 61 endpoints in a single job. Germany shows the scale: Ritto, the German door entry brand bought by Comelit from Schneider Electric, reports more than 5 million installations in residential units, most of them older two-wire estates. At 1.46 points, retrofit alone adds about 0.69 million door phone endpoints in 2026, on top of the replacement of units that simply fail.

New housing adds 1.18 points. That leg tracks construction. Every new apartment carries at least one indoor station, and the base case assumes completions in Asia Pacific and the Middle East stay near their recent run rate. Japan remains the deepest single market: Aiphone booked JPY 47.56 billion of its sales there in the fiscal year ended March 2026, against JPY 9.50 billion in North America, according to its [results published on 12 May 2026](https://www.aiphone.co.jp/ir/docs/pdf/settlement/2026/20260512_financial-results_the_fiscal_year_ended_en.pdf).

Connected panels add 0.87 points. Spanish maker Fermax chose Telefonica Tech on 3 February 2026 to connect its video door entry panels over 4G with a built-in SIM, per the [Telefonica release](https://www.telefonica.com/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/02/pr_telefonica_tech_fermax.pdf). More than 27,000 Fermax panels were already connected, and the company targets over 100,000 connected systems by 2030, adding 15,000 to 20,000 installations a year from 2026. A cellular panel needs no wiring back to each flat, which shortens retrofit jobs. No cable, no chasing walls.

Commercial and institutional access adds 0.61 points. Small, but sticky. Schools, clinics and offices now buy IP call stations that also open doors, read cards and stream video to a security desk. Axis Communications, part of the Canon Group since 2015, sells IP intercoms under the Axis and 2N names, and reports total 2025 sales of USD 2.1 billion. Added together, 1.46 + 1.18 + 0.87 + 0.61 = 4.12 points, the full volume leg. Retrofit and connectivity together supply 2.33 points, more than half of it, which is why the door phone forecast leans on existing buildings rather than on construction cycles.

## Which hurdles slow door phone replacement cycles?

Three hurdles remove 1.64 points from gross door phone volume growth, which is why the net leg is 4.12% rather than 5.76%. Long product lives, consumer doorbell substitution and new cyber-compliance costs each take a measurable slice.

Long replacement cycles remove 0.74 points. A wired door phone in a block of flats commonly runs 15 to 20 years, and owners' associations delay refits until a unit fails. Roughly one endpoint in 18 is replaced each year in the Douglas Insights base case.

Wi-Fi video doorbells remove 0.52 points. In single-family homes a USD 100 to USD 250 battery doorbell replaces a wired kit, so the kit is never bought. Apartments are protected from this, because a doorbell cannot open a shared entrance.

Cyber-compliance costs remove 0.38 points. Since 29 April 2024 the [UK product security regime](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-uk-product-security-and-telecommunications-infrastructure-product-security-regime) has required unique or user-set passwords, a route to report flaws and a published minimum update period for connectable products. The EU CRA adds vulnerability reporting from 11 September 2026. Smaller door phone brands must fund firmware teams or exit IP lines.

## Which companies supply door entry panels and monitors worldwide?

Douglas Insights estimates the top three door phone suppliers, Aiphone, Hikvision and Panasonic, hold 22.6% of 2025 value, with Aiphone alone at about 9.1%. Aiphone's share rests on disclosed sales; the other two are modelled from product breadth and installed base, so the market stays fragmented.

| Company | Base | What the position rests on | Douglas Insights share estimate, 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Aiphone | Japan | Near pure-play intercom maker, JPY 62.98 billion sales in year to March 2026 | 9.1% |
| Hikvision | China | Video and access control range, RMB 25.45 billion innovative business revenue in 2025 | 7.4% |
| Panasonic | Japan | Analogue, hybrid and IP video door phones across Asia | 6.1% |
| Legrand (BTicino) | France and Italy | IP and two-wire apartment systems, BTicino leads in Italy | 4.6% |
| Comelit Group | Italy | Turnover above EUR 190 million in 2024, plus Ritto in Germany | 3.3% |
| Axis Communications (2N) | Sweden and Czechia | IP intercoms for commercial access | 2.4% |
| Fermax | Spain | Turnover above EUR 90 million in 2025, 4G panels | 2.1% |

Aiphone reported net sales of JPY 62.98 billion for the fiscal year ended March 2026, down 0.5% from JPY 63.32 billion a year earlier. Converted at the Federal Reserve 2025 average of 149.5686 yen per dollar, that is USD 421.1 million, or 9.1% of a USD 4.61 billion market.

Hikvision reported 2025 revenue of RMB 92.51 billion, with its innovative businesses at RMB 25.45 billion, or 27.51% of the total; door stations sit within its access control and smart home lines. Panasonic [launched five video door phones](https://www.panasonic.com/in/corporate/news/articles/panasonic-launches-state-of-the-art-video-door-phones-for-indian-real-estate-builders-and-standalone-households.html) for Indian builders and households on 24 July 2024, including the VL-SA74 IP model with a 7-inch screen. BTicino, a Legrand brand, markets IP entrance panels with 10-inch displays and face recognition for large residential complexes.

Comelit, based in Bergamo, reported turnover above EUR 190 million in 2024 and more than 1,000 staff, and agreed to buy Ritto from Schneider Electric; the closed deal makes Germany its second-largest market. Ritto adds turnover above EUR 13 million. Fermax, founded in 1949 in Valencia, reported turnover above EUR 90 million in 2025 with more than 550 employees.

## Where do door phone installations grow fastest by region?

Asia Pacific leads with 41.6% of 2025 door phone value, USD 1.92 billion, and also grows fastest at 6.6% a year to USD 3.63 billion by 2035. Apartment completions in China and India and Japan's deep replacement base explain both the size and the pace.

Europe holds USD 1.26 billion in 2025 and grows 4.6% a year to USD 1.97 billion, led by retrofit of Italian, German and Spanish blocks. North America carries USD 825.0 million and grows 5.2% a year to USD 1.37 billion, as multifamily rentals add IP call stations. Latin America adds USD 285.8 million at 6.1% a year. The Middle East and Africa hold USD 322.6 million and grow 6.05% a year to USD 580.6 million.

The wildcard is the Gulf. Orders are lumpy. Large gated compounds buy guard stations and hundreds of indoor monitors in one order, so two or three projects can swing the Middle East and Africa figure by several points in a year.

## How do cyber security rules for connected door stations affect makers?

Two cyber laws now govern the IP door phone segment, 34.7% of 2025 value. IP stations count as connectable products under both the UK regime, in force since April 2024, and the EU CRA, in force since December 2024. Both force password, patching and disclosure duties onto door phone makers.

Under the UK regime, a connectable door station cannot ship with a shared default password, and its maker must publish how long security updates last. The [CRA](https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/cyber-resilience-act) applies vulnerability reporting from 11 September 2026 and its main obligations from 11 December 2027. Douglas Insights expects compliance work to add about USD 2 to USD 4 per IP endpoint, inside the 1.58% price leg.

## Do multi-apartment blocks or single-family homes buy more door phone endpoints?

Multi-apartment buildings take about 58% of door phone endpoints in 2025, roughly 27.4 million units, because each block needs one indoor station per flat. Single-family homes take about 29%, and commercial and institutional buildings the remaining 13% of the 47.32 million total.

Single-family homes buy 2-to-4 endpoint kits, so they generate many orders but small tickets. Commercial and institutional buildings take only 13% of units yet a larger share of value, because an IP call station with a card reader sells for 3 to 5 times a basic monitor.

## How fast is the move from two-wire to IP door phone wiring?

IP door phones gain about 2.5 points of endpoint share a year in the base case, rising from roughly 35% of endpoints in 2025 to above 55% by 2035. Two-wire remains common in retrofits because it reuses old intercom cabling.

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) lets an IP door station call a phone or app directly, which removes the need for an indoor monitor in some offices. The 4G route used by Fermax skips building cabling altogether. Both routes favour vendors with app and cloud teams. Hardware alone no longer wins.

## What if door phone volume growth runs slower or faster to 2035?

The base case reaches USD 8.07 billion by 2035; a slower path ends at USD 6.52 billion and a faster one at USD 9.88 billion. The gap comes almost entirely from apartment retrofit pace and from how quickly 4G and IP panels replace two-wire systems.

| Case | Volume leg | Price leg | Revenue CAGR | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 2.6% | 0.9% | 3.52% | USD 6.52 billion |
| Base case | 4.12% | 1.58% | 5.77% | USD 8.07 billion |
| Faster | 5.5% | 2.3% | 7.93% | USD 9.88 billion |

The slower case assumes associations keep deferring refits and Wi-Fi doorbells take more homes. The faster case assumes CRA deadlines on 11 December 2027 push owners to replace unsupported IP stations, and Fermax-style 4G panels spread across Europe. A volume leg one point higher lifts 2035 door phone value by USD 809.7 million, to USD 8.88 billion; one point lower takes away USD 742.7 million.

Outside forecasts for door phones and door intercoms span about 5.5% to 16.6% a year; the 5.77% base sits near the low end because Douglas Insights excludes consumer video doorbells.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Door Entry Vendor Disclosure Tracker

The Door Entry Vendor Disclosure Tracker is a Douglas Insights model built from 16 sourced inputs: 14 company disclosures from 6 companies and 2 Federal Reserve exchange rates. It records what door phone vendors disclose, converts it to dollars and sets it against the USD 4.61 billion market.

| Company | Disclosed figure | Period | USD million | Door phone relevance |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Aiphone | JPY 62.98 billion net sales | Year to March 2026 | 421.1 | Near pure-play |
| Comelit Group | Above EUR 190 million turnover | 2024 | 214.8 | Door entry plus security |
| Fermax | Above EUR 90 million turnover | 2025 | 101.8 | Door entry plus access |
| Ritto | Above EUR 13 million turnover | Latest disclosed | 14.7 | Door entry only |

The four door entry specialists disclose USD 752.4 million together, about 16.3% of the 2025 door phone market. Douglas Insights reads this as fragmentation: more than four-fifths of door phone revenue sits with diversified groups that do not report it separately, such as Hikvision, Panasonic and Legrand.

The tracker also logs connected-panel counts, starting with Fermax's 27,000 4G panels and its 100,000 target for 2030.

## Which methodology turns door phone endpoints into a market value?

The door phone value is 47.32 million endpoints × USD 97.40 = USD 4.61 billion, split into 5 regions and 5 product segments that each reconcile to the total. Volume grows 4.12% and price 1.58%, so revenue grows 5.77% a year.

Cross-check one: Aiphone's USD 421.1 million gives a 9.1% share, consistent with a leader in a fragmented field. Cross-check two: published 2025 estimates for door phones and door intercoms span USD 2.84 billion to USD 5.8 billion, and USD 4.61 billion sits inside that band. Cross-check three: Aiphone's Japan sales of USD 318.0 million are 16.6% of the Asia Pacific figure, a plausible slice for one vendor.
