- Asia Pacific buys 55.0%; China took 91% of the 441,000 electric trucks sold in 2025.
- The US reversed course: the 45W credit ended in September 2025 and EPA rescinded vehicle greenhouse gas standards in February 2026.

Electric truck sales passed 400,000 in 2025, about double 2024 and 9% of all truck sales, while buyers took almost 70,000 electric buses and more than 430,000 electric vans, the International Energy Agency (IEA) [Global EV Outlook 2026](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/trends-in-other-ev-modes) of May 2026 shows; China took more than 90% of those trucks. The electric commercial vehicle market covers battery-electric and fuel cell electric vans, medium trucks, heavy trucks and buses sold new worldwide. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 68.9 billion in 2025, about 940,000 vehicles at an average USD 73,300 each, and at USD 199.7 billion in 2035, an 11.23% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The study sits in our [commercial vehicles and trucks coverage](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/commercial-vehicles-trucks/), beside the [Electric Vehicle Traction Motor Core Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/electric-vehicle-traction-motor-core-market/), [Automotive Inverter Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/automotive-inverter-market/) and [Electric Vehicles Polymers Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/electric-vehicles-polymers-market/) reports; every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which electric commercial vehicle class earns the most: heavy trucks, vans or buses?

Electric heavy trucks earn the most, 31.7% of 2025 revenue or about USD 21.8 billion, Douglas Insights estimates, and they also grow fastest, 13.9% a year to USD 80.3 billion by 2035.

| Vehicle class | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Heavy trucks | 31.7% | USD 21.8 billion | 13.9% | USD 80.3 billion |
| Light commercial vans | 28.1% | USD 19.4 billion | 11.6% | USD 58.0 billion |
| Buses and coaches | 23.4% | USD 16.1 billion | 6.6% | USD 30.5 billion |
| Medium trucks | 16.8% | USD 11.6 billion | 11.2% | USD 33.5 billion |

Heavy trucks lead because volume jumped from about 84,000 in 2024 to 230,000 in 2025, a 9% share of heavy freight truck sales, and 97% of electric trucks sold were battery-electric, the [IEA's May 2026 outlook](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/trends-in-other-ev-modes) shows. Douglas Insights prices a Chinese battery-electric tractor at about USD 75,000 and a European or North American one at about USD 300,000, so 230,000 units carry USD 21.8 billion. Heavy truck revenue grows 13.9% a year, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Vans, USD 19.4 billion, rise 11.6% a year: the IEA counts almost 200,000 electric vans in Europe in 2025, up 70%, and about 140,000 in China, up 40%, while US sales fell almost 80% to under 6,000. Buses and coaches, USD 16.1 billion on almost 70,000 units, grow slowest at 6.6% because China's city fleets are already mostly electric. Medium trucks, about 210,000 units and USD 11.6 billion, grow 11.2%. Class values for 2035 sum to USD 202.3 billion, 1.29% above the headline.

## How much of the electric commercial vehicle market runs on batteries and how much on hydrogen fuel cells?

Battery-electric vehicles take 96.0% of 2025 revenue, about USD 66.1 billion, Douglas Insights estimates; fuel cell electric vehicles take 4.0%, about USD 2.76 billion, and grow 14.0% a year from a small base.

| Powertrain | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Battery electric | 96.0% | USD 66.1 billion | 11.1% | USD 189.5 billion |
| Fuel cell electric | 4.0% | USD 2.76 billion | 14.0% | USD 10.2 billion |

Batteries dominate because charging is cheaper to build than hydrogen supply. The IEA says 98% of electric buses sold in 2025 were battery-electric and that fuel cell trucks cost about 4 times a diesel truck in China against almost 3 times for battery models, its [2025 outlook](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2025/trends-in-heavy-duty-electric-vehicles) shows. Fuel cell trucks earn a revenue share above their 2% to 3% unit share because each sells for about 1.5 times a battery truck, a Douglas Insights estimate. Hyundai's 165 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks in Europe passed 20 million km across 5 countries, its [release of 5 February 2026](https://www.hyundai.news/eu/articles/press-releases/xcient-fuel-cell-truck-20-million-kilometer-milestone-europe.html) states. Powertrain values sum to USD 199.7 billion in 2035.

## What drives electric commercial vehicle demand: China's truck plan, EU CO2 targets or cheaper batteries?

Electric commercial vehicle revenue rises 11.23% a year in our base case: unit volume grows 13.5% a year, from about 940,000 to about 3.33 million, and average price falls 2.0%. Four drivers add 15.3 points of volume; restraints remove 1.8.

### China's new-energy heavy truck plan and trade-in subsidy: 5.6 points

China is the largest driver, worth 5.6 points. The Ministry of Transport, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and 9 other departments set a 2030 target of 40% new-energy penetration in heavy truck sales, a fleet above 1.6 million and about 3,000 charging and battery swap stations, and counted 337,000 sales from January 2025 to May 2026 at a penetration above 29.5%, [Xinhua reported on 18 June 2026](https://www.news.cn/politics/20260618/269e1cca16e0457cb2f3d9360df45c99/c.html). A 2026 trade-in rule pays up to RMB 140,000 for scrapping an old medium or heavy truck and buying an electric one, the [State Council notice of 6 May 2026](https://english.www.gov.cn/policies/policywatch/202605/06/content_WS69fad36ac6d00ca5f9a0ac80.html) states. China's electric share of truck sales rose from 6% in 2023 to 15% in 2024 and 26% in 2025, the [IEA launch slides of 20 May 2026](https://iea.blob.core.windows.net/assets/beae65ce-6b6d-4a8b-b67a-c591093756be/GEVO2026_LaunchWebinarSlides.pdf) show.

### EU CO2 standards and road tolls: 3.9 points

Europe adds 3.9 points. Regulation (EU) 2024/1610 requires truck makers to cut average CO2 by 15% from 2025, 45% from 2030, 65% from 2035 and 90% from 2040, and new city buses must be zero-emission from 2035, the [European Commission's DG CLIMA](https://climate.ec.europa.eu/areas-action/transport-decarbonisation/road-transport/lorries-buses-and-coaches_en) states. Electrically chargeable models took 11.2% of EU van registrations in 2025, up from 6.1%, 4.2% of trucks, up from 2.3%, and 23.8% of buses, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) [reported on 29 January 2026](https://www.acea.auto/cv-registrations/new-commercial-vehicle-registrations-vans-8-8-trucks-6-2-buses-7-5-in-2025/); in the first nine months of 2026 the shares reached 14.1%, 5.3% and 26.4%, its [28 October 2026 release](https://www.acea.auto/cv-registrations/new-commercial-vehicle-registrations-vans-0-trucks-7-5-buses-15-2-in-q1-q3-2026/) shows.

### Cheaper batteries and lower running cost: 3.0 points

Battery cost adds 3.0 points. Average battery prices fell 8% in 2025, Chinese pack prices sat 30% below North America and 35% below Europe, and trucks took about 8% of electric vehicle battery deployment, up from under 5% in 2024, the IEA's [2026 battery chapter](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/electric-vehicle-batteries) shows. The IEA says electric trucks remain two to three times dearer to buy than diesel, yet total cost of ownership is already competitive in China and should reach parity in the EU by 2030, its [executive summary](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/executive-summary) states. Douglas Insights estimates that each 10% fall in pack cost lifts heavy truck volume growth by about 0.7 points.

### Megawatt charging and corridor build-out: 2.8 points

Charging adds the last 2.8 points. SAE International issued J3271, the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) information report, on [5 March 2025](https://saemobilus.sae.org/standards/j3271_202503-sae-megawatt-charging-system-electric-vehicles). Milence, the truck charging venture of Daimler Truck, Traton and Volvo, ran 34 hubs with 221 charge points in 8 countries and targets 50 hubs by the end of 2026 and 90 hubs with more than 300 MCS points by 2028, its [April 2026 fact sheet](https://milence.com/app/uploads/2026/04/Milence-Fact-Sheet_General-EN.pdf) shows. Summed, 5.6 + 3.9 + 3.0 + 2.8 = 15.3 points, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## What holds electric commercial vehicle growth back: US policy reversal, price premiums or grid limits?

Three restraints remove 1.8 points a year from electric commercial vehicle volume growth: the US policy reversal takes 1.0 point, purchase premiums and residual value doubts 0.5 points and depot grid connections 0.3 points.

The US reversal is the heaviest drag. Congress revoked California's Advanced Clean Trucks waiver through H.J.Res. 87, signed on [12 June 2025](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/2025/06/congressional-bills-h-j-res-87-h-j-res-88-h-j-res-89-signed-into-law); the Internal Revenue Service says no 45W commercial clean vehicle credit, worth up to USD 40,000 for vehicles of 14,000 lb or more, is available for vehicles acquired after 30 September 2025, its [credit page](https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/commercial-clean-vehicle-credit) states; and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rescinded the 2009 endangerment finding and all vehicle greenhouse gas standards in a final rule of [12 February 2026](https://www.epa.gov/regulations-emissions-vehicles-and-engines/final-rule-rescission-greenhouse-gas-endangerment), now under legal challenge. US electric bus sales fell 40% in 2025, the [IEA outlook](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/trends-in-other-ev-modes) shows.

Price premiums take 0.5 points: outside China an electric tractor still costs two to three times a diesel one, the IEA states, and fleet buyers discount resale values on early battery packs. Volvo Group's electric truck deliveries fell 17% to 878 in the third quarter of 2026 even as orders rose 163% to 1,928, its [Q3 2026 report](https://mb.cision.com/Main/39/4414202/4335540.pdf) shows. The final 0.30 points reflect depot grid connections that take 18 to 36 months in parts of Europe and North America, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## Which region buys the most electric commercial vehicles, and where does demand grow fastest?

Asia Pacific buys the most electric commercial vehicles, USD 37.9 billion or 55.0% of 2025 revenue, led by Chinese trucks. The Middle East and Africa grow fastest, 15.5% a year to USD 7.29 billion by 2035.

| Region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Asia Pacific | USD 37.9 billion | 55.0% | USD 42.0 billion | 10.9% | USD 106.6 billion |
| Europe | USD 20.7 billion | 30.0% | USD 23.1 billion | 11.6% | USD 61.9 billion |
| North America | USD 6.20 billion | 9.0% | USD 6.82 billion | 10.0% | USD 16.1 billion |
| Latin America | USD 2.41 billion | 3.5% | USD 2.75 billion | 14.0% | USD 8.94 billion |
| Middle East and Africa | USD 1.72 billion | 2.5% | USD 1.99 billion | 15.5% | USD 7.29 billion |

Asia Pacific leads on volume rather than price. China took 91% of the 441,000 electric trucks sold in 2025, and its electric truck fleet passed 1 million, the [IEA slides of 20 May 2026](https://iea.blob.core.windows.net/assets/beae65ce-6b6d-4a8b-b67a-c591093756be/GEVO2026_LaunchWebinarSlides.pdf) show, but Chinese trucks sell for about a quarter of Western prices, so the region's 55.0% revenue share sits below its unit share of about 66%, a Douglas Insights estimate. India sold more than 4,000 electric buses and more than 9,000 electric vans in 2025, the IEA states. Asia Pacific revenue grows 10.9% a year to USD 106.6 billion.

Europe, USD 20.7 billion, grows 11.6% as CO2 targets tighten; Europe's electric truck sales rose 40% to almost 17,000 and electric bus sales 28% to more than 12,000 in 2025, the [IEA outlook](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/trends-in-other-ev-modes) shows. North America, USD 6.20 billion, grows 10.0% on about 20,000 trucks a year and Tesla Semi output. Latin America, USD 2.41 billion, grows 14.0% on more than 3,000 electric buses a year, and the Middle East and Africa, USD 1.72 billion, grow 15.5% from the smallest base. Regional values sum to USD 76.7 billion in 2026 and USD 200.9 billion in 2035, 0.58% above the headline.

## Which companies lead electric truck, van and bus supply?

BYD, Yutong and the Chinese heavy truck makers hold the largest unit volumes, while Daimler Truck, Traton and Volvo lead in Europe; no supplier holds more than about 10% of revenue, Douglas Insights estimates.

| Company | Latest reported figure | Period and source date |
| --- | --- | --- |
| BYD | 4,923 buses and 52,090 other commercial vehicles | Year 2025; 1 January 2026 |
| Yutong | 49,518 buses delivered, up 5.54% | Year 2025; 28 January 2026 |
| Daimler Truck | 6,726 battery-electric trucks and buses, up 67% | Year 2025; 12 March 2026 |
| Traton | 3,230 battery-electric vehicles, up 86% | Year 2025; 20 January 2026 |
| Volvo Group | Electric truck orders 1,928, up 163%; deliveries 878 | Quarter to September 2026; October 2026 |
| Ford Pro | 5,186 E-Transit vans sold in the US | Year 2025; 6 January 2026 |
| Rivian | 42,247 vehicles delivered, all models | Year 2025; January 2026 |
| Tesla | Volume production of Tesla Semi begun; 25,000-a-year line | Quarter to September 2026; 21 October 2026 |
| Hyundai | 165 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks, 20 million km in Europe | Fleet to January 2026; 5 February 2026 |

Chinese makers dominate volume. BYD sold 4,923 buses and 52,090 other commercial vehicles in 2025 within 4,602,436 new energy vehicles, its [Hong Kong exchange filing of 1 January 2026](https://www1.hkexnews.hk/listedco/listconews/sehk/2026/0101/2026010100423.pdf) shows, and Yutong delivered 49,518 buses, up 5.54%, its [release of 28 January 2026](https://tools.prnewswire.com/en-us/live/20813/release/20260128EN72885) states. Douglas Insights estimates more than 60% of Yutong's deliveries were new-energy buses.

European incumbents are scaling quickly from a low base. Daimler Truck sold 6,726 battery-electric trucks and buses in 2025, up 67% from 4,035, out of 422,510 vehicles, its [results of 12 March 2026](https://www.daimlertruck.com/en/newsroom/pressrelease/daimler-truck-with-strong-year-end-cash-flow-and-rising-order-momentum-entering-2026-positioned-for-operational-improvement-on-higher-volumes-and-efficiency-gains-53395174) show. Traton sold 3,230, up 86%, with MAN at 1,970, Scania 600 and International 590, its [release of 20 January 2026](https://www.volkswagen-group.com/en/articles/traton-group-records-total-unit-sales-of-around-305500-vehicles-in-2025-in-a-weak-market-environment-20097) states. Volvo's share of Europe's battery-electric heavy truck market fell to 14.1% from 27.6% in the third quarter of 2026 as rivals launched, its [Q3 report](https://mb.cision.com/Main/39/4414202/4335540.pdf) shows.

North America is led by new entrants and vans. Tesla said "we began volume production of Tesla Semi" on a Nevada line with 25,000 units a year of capacity, its [Q3 2026 update of 21 October 2026](https://ir.tesla.com/_flysystem/s3/sec/000162828026066738/tsla-20261021-gen.pdf) states. Ford sold 5,186 E-Transit vans in the US in 2025, its [sales release of 6 January 2026](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260106302748/en) shows, and the IEA credits Rivian with nearly 10,000 electric delivery vans. Nikola filed for Chapter 11 on 19 February 2025 with about USD 47 million of cash, its [release](https://www2020.theautochannel.com/news/2025/02/19/1495427-nikola-initiates-comprehensive-voluntary-chapter-11-sale-process.html) states.

## How much does an electric truck, van or bus cost against diesel?

An electric commercial vehicle costs an average USD 73,300 in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, from about USD 25,000 for a Chinese electric van to USD 300,000 or more for a European battery-electric tractor.

The average hides a wide ladder. Douglas Insights puts Chinese electric vans at USD 20,000 to USD 35,000, European and US electric vans at USD 45,000 to USD 75,000, medium trucks at USD 45,000 to USD 180,000, Chinese battery-electric tractors at USD 60,000 to USD 95,000, European and US tractors at USD 250,000 to USD 400,000 and city buses at USD 150,000 in China to USD 900,000 for a US transit bus. The IEA put the US truck premium about USD 60,000 above Europe's and expected prices to fall 15% to 35% within five years, its [2025 outlook](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2025/trends-in-heavy-duty-electric-vehicles) states.

Average price falls 2.0% a year in the base case, to about USD 59,900 in 2035, because battery packs keep getting cheaper and volume shifts to China. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) packs cost more than 40% less per kWh than nickel manganese cobalt packs, the [IEA's 2026 battery chapter](https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2026/electric-vehicle-batteries) states, and a 600 kWh heavy truck pack is about 35% to 45% of the vehicle's cost, a Douglas Insights estimate. Mix pulls the other way: heavier and longer-range trucks carry bigger packs, which keeps the decline near 2.0% rather than 4%.

Running cost closes the gap. The IEA says total cost of ownership for electric trucks is already competitive in China, and Douglas Insights estimates electricity and maintenance save a European long-haul fleet EUR 25,000 to EUR 40,000 a year per tractor at current diesel prices once toll discounts apply.

## What if China slows or Europe accelerates: how large is the electric commercial vehicle market in 2035?

The electric commercial vehicle market ends 2035 between USD 145.2 billion and USD 261.3 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 199.7 billion. Chinese truck penetration and European enforcement set most of the spread.

| Case | Volume leg | Price leg | Revenue rate | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 10.50% | -2.50% | 7.74% | USD 145.2 billion |
| Base case | 13.50% | -2.00% | 11.23% | USD 199.7 billion |
| Faster | 16.00% | -1.50% | 14.26% | USD 261.3 billion |

In the slower case China's heavy truck penetration plateaus near 35%, the EU softens 2030 truck targets through credit banking and the US stays without federal standards, taking 3.0 points off volume and 0.5 points off price. In the faster case China reaches its 40% target before 2030, megawatt corridors open on schedule and US states restore zero-emission rules, adding 2.5 points of volume and 0.5 points of price. One extra point of yearly revenue growth adds about USD 18.7 billion to 2035 revenue, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Live signals sit slightly above the base case. Chinese penetration above 29.5% through May 2026, Volvo's electric orders up 163% and ACEA's 14.1% van share point up. Falling US van and bus sales, the EPA rescission and Volvo's 17% delivery drop point down. Our 13.5% volume rate weighs fast Chinese and European uptake against a stalled US market.

## Which rules shape electric commercial vehicle demand, from EU CO2 targets to US rollbacks?

Four rule sets shape demand: EU fleet CO2 limits under Regulation (EU) 2024/1610, EU charging and toll law, China's new-energy truck plan, and US federal and California rules that were rolled back in 2025 and 2026.

The EU layer is the strictest. Regulation (EU) 2024/1610, published on [EUR-Lex](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2024/1610/oj/eng), sets the 15%, 45%, 65% and 90% truck targets, and a December 2025 Commission proposal would let makers earn credits before 2030, [DG CLIMA](https://climate.ec.europa.eu/areas-action/transport-decarbonisation/road-transport/lorries-buses-and-coaches_en) states. Regulation (EU) 2025/1214 of 17 June 2025 lets van makers average compliance over 2025 to 2027, [EUR-Lex](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2025/1214/oj/eng) shows. The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), Regulation (EU) 2023/1804, requires truck charging pools of at least 3,600 kW every 60 km on the core network by the end of 2030, its [text on EUR-Lex](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/1804/oj/eng) sets out. The Council's final Eurovignette amendment of [14 October 2026](https://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/PE-58-2026-INIT/en/pdf) keeps toll reductions of up to 75% for zero-emission trucks until 30 June 2031.

China's layer combines targets and cash: the 40% penetration goal for 2030 and the RMB 140,000 trade-in payment. The US layer now subtracts: the EPA rescission removes Phase 3 truck standards, the 45W credit has ended and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) agreed in 2025 to repeal the drayage and high-priority fleet parts of Advanced Clean Fleets, its [Board resolution 25-9](https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/sites/default/files/barcu/board/res/2025/res25-9.pdf) records.

The Electric Freight Tipping Index is a Douglas Insights model built from 12 inputs, 6 official and 6 company releases. It measures how close each region is to unsubsidised electric truck cost parity.

| Date | Input | What it moves |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 12 June 2025 | US: California truck waiver revoked | US mandate |
| 30 September 2025 | IRS: 45W credit ends for later acquisitions | US purchase cost |
| 1 January 2026 | BYD: 52,090 other commercial vehicles | China volume |
| 29 January 2026 | ACEA: EU van share 11.2%, truck 4.2% | EU uptake |
| 12 February 2026 | EPA: greenhouse gas standards rescinded | US mandate |
| 12 March 2026 | Daimler Truck: 6,726 battery-electric units | EU supply |
| April 2026 | Milence: 34 hubs, 221 charge points | EU charging |
| 6 May 2026 | China: RMB 140,000 truck trade-in | China purchase cost |
| 20 May 2026 | IEA: 441,000 electric trucks, battery prices down 8% | Global volume and cost |
| 18 June 2026 | China: 40% heavy truck target for 2030 | China mandate |
| October 2026 | Volvo: electric orders up 163% | EU order book |
| 21 October 2026 | Tesla: Semi volume production | US supply |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: China passed the unsubsidised tipping point for short-haul heavy trucks in 2025, with a five-year cost per km about 10% below diesel; Europe reaches it for regional haul in 2028 and long haul in 2031 once megawatt corridors open; North America lags to about 2033 without federal standards or credits. On the index, China scores 82 out of 100, Europe 58 and North America 34.

The index changes how to read the market. Once a region tips, adoption is driven by fleet economics rather than rules, so China's growth no longer depends on subsidies while Europe's still depends on CO2 penalties and tolls. Douglas Insights therefore weights cost inputs about twice as heavily as policy inputs for China, and the reverse for North America.

## How does the methodology turn 940,000 vehicles into USD 68.9 billion?

Our methodology multiplies about 940,000 electric commercial vehicles sold in 2025 by an average USD 73,300 each to reach USD 68.9 billion, then grows units 13.5% a year and lets price fall 2.0%.

The model covers 4 vehicle classes, 2 powertrains and 5 regions, using 58 data points, 24 sourced and 34 modelled. Units come from the IEA's 2025 counts: about 430,000 vans, 441,000 trucks and almost 70,000 buses; prices come from company filings and Douglas Insights price ladders by region. Arithmetic: 940,000 x USD 73,300 = USD 68.9 billion; USD 68.9 billion x (1.135 x 0.98)^10 = USD 199.7 billion. Units reach about 3.33 million in 2035, consistent with the IEA view that electric trucks reach at least 20% of global truck sales by 2035 under current policies.

Two cross-checks agree. First, BYD, Yutong, Daimler Truck, Traton, Ford and Rivian together report about 132,000 commercial vehicles in 2025 that are wholly or mostly electric, about 14% of global units by Douglas Insights count, consistent with a market where dozens of Chinese truck and van makers hold the rest. Second, our heavy truck value of USD 21.8 billion equals about USD 95,000 per truck, between Chinese and Western list prices weighted by the IEA's 91% China share. Currency conversions use Douglas Insights assumptions of RMB 7.10 and EUR 0.88 per US dollar. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## What counts in the electric commercial vehicle study, and what is excluded?

The electric commercial vehicle study counts new battery-electric and fuel cell electric vans, medium trucks, heavy trucks, buses and coaches sold worldwide at vehicle price. Plug-in hybrids, two- and three-wheelers, off-road machinery, chargers and used vehicles are excluded.

The study splits revenue by 4 vehicle classes, 2 powertrains and 5 regions: Asia Pacific, Europe, North America, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. Drive motors appear in our [Electric Vehicle Traction Motor Core Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/electric-vehicle-traction-motor-core-market/) report, power electronics in the [Automotive Inverter Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/automotive-inverter-market/) report and lightweight plastics in the [Electric Vehicles Polymers Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/electric-vehicles-polymers-market/) report.
