## Key takeaways

- The Europe hypercholesterolemia drugs market is worth USD 5.66 billion in 2025 and USD 7.89 billion in 2035, a 3.38% revenue CAGR.
- About 64.0 million treated patient-years at USD 88.41 each form the 2025 base; volume grows 1.40% a year and price 1.95%.
- Statins lead at 49.0%; siRNA therapy and bempedoic acid with other oral agents grow fastest at 10.5% a year.
- Germany spends 23.0% of value; the United Kingdom grows fastest at 4.4%; Amgen leads with about 12.4%.
- English primary-care inclisiran reached 19,416 of an eligible pool of about 600,000, the injection gap new oral agents can fill.

Novartis sold USD 506 million of Leqvio (inclisiran) in the third quarter of 2026, up 63% at constant currencies, with growth "driven by the US, Europe and continued uptake in China", and named Leqvio among the drugs behind 3% constant-currency growth in its USD 4.3 billion European business, its [results of 27 October 2026](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001114448/000111444826000014/a261027-99_2.htm) show. The Europe hypercholesterolemia drugs market covers prescription medicines that lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in Europe: statins, ezetimibe and fixed-dose combinations, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) monoclonal antibodies, small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapy, and bempedoic acid and other oral agents. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 5.66 billion in 2025, about 64.0 million treated patient-years at an average net USD 88.41 each, and at USD 7.89 billion in 2035, a 3.38% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The study is the Europe row of our worldwide [Hypercholesterolemia Drugs Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/hypercholesterolemia-drugs-market/) model, sits beside our [U.S. Hypercholesterolemia Drugs Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/u-s-hypercholesterolemia-drugs-market/) and [Asia Pacific Hypercholesterolemia Drugs Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/asia-pacific-hypercholesterolemia-drugs-market/) reports inside our [pharmaceuticals coverage](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/healthcare/pharmaceuticals/), and every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which drug class carries the most hypercholesterolemia drugs value: statins, ezetimibe combinations or PCSK9 therapies?

Statins carry the most, 49.0% of 2025 hypercholesterolemia drugs value or USD 2.77 billion, Douglas Insights estimates. Small interfering RNA therapy and bempedoic acid with other oral agents grow fastest, each at 10.5% a year.

| Drug class | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Statins | 49.0% | USD 2.77 billion | 0.0% | USD 2.77 billion |
| Ezetimibe and fixed-dose combinations | 20.7% | USD 1.17 billion | 3.0% | USD 1.57 billion |
| PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies | 17.5% | USD 990.2 million | 4.4% | USD 1.52 billion |
| Small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapy | 6.3% | USD 356.5 million | 10.5% | USD 967.5 million |
| Bempedoic acid and other oral agents | 6.5% | USD 367.8 million | 10.5% | USD 998.2 million |

Statins lead because about 57.0 million of the 64.0 million treated patient-years start on one, at an average net USD 48.64 a year, Douglas Insights estimates. Their 49.0% share sits below the 57.6% worldwide figure in our global model because European payers already fund add-on therapy for more high-risk patients than payers in emerging markets do. Statin value stays flat at about USD 2.77 billion to 2035: tablet volume still rises, but generic atorvastatin and rosuvastatin prices keep slipping. Atorvastatin was the most dispensed medicine in England in 2024/25, at 73 million items out of 1.26 billion, the [NHS Business Services Authority's prescription cost analysis of 5 June 2025](https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/statistical-collections/prescription-cost-analysis-england/prescription-cost-analysis-england-202425) shows.

Ezetimibe and fixed-dose combinations, USD 1.17 billion, hold 20.7% and grow 3.0% a year as doctors add a second tablet earlier. PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies, USD 990.2 million, grow 4.4% to USD 1.52 billion. Small interfering RNA therapy, USD 356.5 million, grows 10.5% to USD 967.5 million on twice-yearly inclisiran. Bempedoic acid and other oral agents, USD 367.8 million, also grow 10.5%, to USD 998.2 million, as bempedoic acid spreads and obicetrapib launches. Class values for 2035 sum to USD 7.84 billion, 0.69% below the USD 7.89 billion headline.

## How do hypercholesterolemia drugs split by route, channel and patient type?

Oral tablets take about 76.2% of 2025 hypercholesterolemia drugs value, Douglas Insights estimates, and subcutaneous injections 23.8%. Retail pharmacies dispense about 61.0%, because most statin and ezetimibe repeats are collected in community pharmacies.

Oral tablets, about USD 4.31 billion, combine statins, ezetimibe products, bempedoic acid and obicetrapib; injections, about USD 1.35 billion, combine PCSK9 antibodies and inclisiran. The injectable share rises to about 32% by 2035, a Douglas Insights estimate, as primary-care injection becomes routine and more patients reach treatment after a heart attack or stroke.

By channel, retail pharmacies dispense about 61.0%, hospital pharmacies 33.0% and online pharmacies 6.0%, all Douglas Insights estimates. Hospital pharmacies keep a third of value because antibodies are still started in lipid clinics in most countries, while the English route of nurse-given inclisiran in general practice pulls injections toward the retail column. By patient type, primary non-familial hypercholesterolemia accounts for about 88.0% of value, heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) 10.8% and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) 1.2%, Douglas Insights estimates; familial patients spend about six times more per patient-year because most need an antibody or siRNA on top of a statin.

## What drives hypercholesterolemia drugs growth: guidelines, primary-care injection, new oral agents or risk testing?

Treated patient-years rise 1.40% a year in our base case, from about 64.0 million in 2025 to 73.5 million in 2035. Four drivers add 2.30 gross points; restraints remove 0.90.

### Earlier combination therapy in the 2025 guidelines: 0.80 points

Guidelines are the largest driver, worth 0.80 points. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) published a focused update of their dyslipidaemia guidelines on [31 August 2025](https://www.escardio.org/news/news-room/congress-news/2025-focused-update-dyslipidaemias/), which recommends bempedoic acid for patients unable to take statins to reach their LDL-C goal and says early, intensive LDL-C lowering should be considered in all patients with acute coronary syndrome, with immediate statin and non-statin combination where needed. LDL-C targets stay where the 2019 guideline set them, so the change is about how fast doctors combine drugs, not where they aim. Douglas Insights estimates that about 38% of very-high-risk European patients still miss the 55 mg/dL goal, and that each 5 points of extra goal attainment adds about 1.1 million patient-years of combination therapy.

### Injection in general practice: 0.55 points

Primary-care injection adds 0.55 points. NHS England renegotiated its agreement with Novartis so that current and new patients in England keep the same inclisiran price until December 2027, pays general practices a nominal GBP 45 a syringe against reimbursement of GBP 60, up from GBP 50, and removed prior approval for hospital use, its [lipid management letter](https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/cvd-disease-prevention-lipid-management-inclisiran/) states. It also says uptake among a potential eligible population of around 600,000 "has been slower than expected". Only 19,416 people had been prescribed inclisiran in English primary care between October 2021 and October 2024, against an NHS estimate of about 300,000, though 3,231 were prescribed it in October 2024 alone, the [Pharmaceutical Journal reported on 13 February 2025](https://pharmaceutical-journal.com/article/news/inclisiran-prescribed-to-7-of-expected-target-population-in-three-years-nhs-data-reveal). The gap between 19,416 and 600,000 is the headroom this driver counts.

### New oral agents: 0.55 points

New oral agents add another 0.55 points. The European Commission approved Menarini and NewAmsterdam Pharma's obicetrapib as Ubeslo and, with ezetimibe, as Evlarco for primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia, the first approval of a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor anywhere, [Pharmaceutical Technology reported on 22 September 2026](https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/news/ec-menarini-newamsterdams-obicetrapib-therapies/); obicetrapib cut LDL-C by up to 40% alone and about 50% with ezetimibe in trials. The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) had backed it on 23 July 2026, [European Biotechnology reported on 29 July 2026](https://european-biotechnology.com/latest-news/chmp-backs-first-cetp-inhibitor-after-two-decades-of-failure/). Bempedoic acid is already sold in 30 European Union countries by Daiichi Sankyo Europe, with more than 600,000 patients treated, Esperion's [update of 11 January 2026](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1434868/000162828026001764/q42025pre-earningsrelease.htm) states.

### Lipoprotein(a) and risk refinement: 0.40 points

Risk testing adds the last 0.40 points. The 2025 update says it is reasonable to consider lipoprotein(a) above 50 mg/dL, or 105 nmol/L, to refine risk for people near treatment thresholds, the [ESC summary](https://www.escardio.org/news/news-room/congress-news/2025-focused-update-dyslipidaemias/) states, which moves some moderate-risk patients into treatment. Douglas Insights estimates that about 20% of Europeans carry lipoprotein(a) above that cut-off. Summed, 0.80 + 0.55 + 0.55 + 0.40 = 2.30 points; after 0.90 points of restraints the 1.40% volume leg times the 1.95% price leg gives the 3.38% revenue rate.

## What holds back hypercholesterolemia drugs: poor adherence, payer limits or statin saturation?

Three restraints remove 0.90 points a year from patient-year growth: poor adherence takes 0.40 points, payer limits on new drugs 0.30 points and a saturated statin base 0.20 points, Douglas Insights estimates.

Poor adherence is the sharpest drag. Douglas Insights estimates that about 35% of European statin starters stop or lapse within a year, which removes 0.40 points. Twice-yearly inclisiran partly answers this, one reason Novartis sold USD 1,438 million of Leqvio in the first nine months of 2026, up 63% at constant currencies, its [results of 27 October 2026](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001114448/000111444826000014/a261027-99_2.htm) show.

Payer limits take 0.30 points. Health technology assessment bodies tie antibodies, siRNA and new oral agents to patients who miss LDL-C targets on maximum statin doses, and many countries ask for specialist initiation, so a reimbursed drug still reaches only a share of eligible patients; the English eligible pool of about 600,000 for inclisiran shows how wide the gap between label and use can be. A saturated statin base takes the final 0.20 points: in Western Europe most patients who qualify for a statin already receive one, so new statin patient-years come mainly from ageing rather than from wider diagnosis. Generic price erosion weighs on the price leg rather than volume, and appears in the pricing section.

## Where in Europe does hypercholesterolemia drugs spending grow fastest: Germany, the United Kingdom or Spain?

Germany buys the most, about USD 1.30 billion or 23.0% of 2025 value. The United Kingdom grows fastest, at 4.4% a year to USD 1.39 billion by 2035, as general practices inject inclisiran.

| Country or sub-region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Germany | USD 1.30 billion | 23.0% | USD 1.34 billion | 3.0% | USD 1.75 billion |
| United Kingdom | USD 905.3 million | 16.0% | USD 945.1 million | 4.4% | USD 1.39 billion |
| France | USD 792.1 million | 14.0% | USD 815.1 million | 2.9% | USD 1.05 billion |
| Italy | USD 679.0 million | 12.0% | USD 699.4 million | 3.0% | USD 912.5 million |
| Spain | USD 509.2 million | 9.0% | USD 527.6 million | 3.6% | USD 725.3 million |
| Nordic countries | USD 396.1 million | 7.0% | USD 411.1 million | 3.8% | USD 575.1 million |
| Rest of Europe | USD 1.08 billion | 19.0% | USD 1.11 billion | 3.4% | USD 1.50 billion |

Germany leads on value: about 13.5 million treated patient-years at an average net USD 96.40, a Douglas Insights estimate, because statutory health insurance funds antibodies and bempedoic acid for patients above target and Germany has the largest elderly population in the region. Its value grows 3.0% a year to USD 1.75 billion. The United Kingdom, USD 905.3 million, grows fastest at 4.4% because the NHS England deal fixes the inclisiran price to December 2027 and moves injection into general practice, where 73 million atorvastatin items a year already pass through community pharmacies, per the [NHSBSA](https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/statistical-collections/prescription-cost-analysis-england/prescription-cost-analysis-england-202425).

France, USD 792.1 million, grows 2.9% as regular price cuts offset more combination use. Italy, USD 679.0 million, grows 3.0%, and Spain, USD 509.2 million, grows 3.6% as regional health services widen PCSK9 criteria. The Nordic countries, USD 396.1 million, grow 3.8% on early adoption of new agents, and the Rest of Europe, led by the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Switzerland, grows 3.4%. Country values sum to USD 5.85 billion in 2026, 0.02% above the headline, and USD 7.91 billion in 2035, 0.27% above it.

## Who sells hypercholesterolemia drugs, and how concentrated is the field?

Amgen holds about 12.4% of 2025 hypercholesterolemia drugs value, a Douglas Insights estimate, on Repatha, ahead of Daiichi Sankyo at 6.5% and Novartis at 6.3%. The top three hold about 25.2%.

| Company | Main products | Latest filed figure | Estimated share 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Amgen | Repatha (evolocumab) | Repatha outside the United States USD 419 million, Q3 2026 | 12.4% |
| Daiichi Sankyo | NILEMDO, NUSTENDI (bempedoic acid) | NILEMDO and NUSTENDI JPY 20.0 billion, April-June 2026 | 6.5% |
| Novartis | Leqvio (inclisiran) | Leqvio USD 506 million, Q3 2026 | 6.3% |
| Viatris | Lipitor (atorvastatin) | Lipitor USD 451.9 million, Q3 2026 | 4.1% |
| Sanofi | Praluent (alirocumab) outside the United States | Douglas Insights estimate | 3.8% |
| Menarini | Ubeslo, Evlarco (obicetrapib) | European Commission approval reported 22 September 2026 | 0.0% |

Amgen sold USD 1,085 million of Repatha in the third quarter of 2026, up 37% "primarily driven by volume growth", of which USD 419 million outside the United States, its [results of 3 November 2026](https://investors.amgen.com/news-releases/news-release-details/amgen-reports-third-quarter-2026-financial-results) show; we place about USD 701.6 million of 2025 European sales with the company. Daiichi Sankyo, which sells bempedoic acid in Europe, booked JPY 20.0 billion of NILEMDO and NUSTENDI revenue in April to June 2026, against JPY 12.6 billion a year earlier, a 59% rise, its [first-quarter presentation of 31 July 2026](https://www.daiichisankyo.com/files/investors/library/quarterly_result/2026/FY2026Q1_Financial_Results_Presentation_E.pdf) shows. Novartis's Leqvio, USD 506 million in the third quarter, gives it about USD 356.5 million of 2025 European value, the whole siRNA class.

Viatris sold USD 451.9 million of Lipitor worldwide in the third quarter of 2026, against USD 396.1 million a year earlier, and USD 1,366.1 million in nine months, its [results of 5 November 2026](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001792044/000179204426000053/exhibit991-3q26earningsrel.htm) show, while its Developed Markets sales fell 1% operationally to USD 2,215.9 million. Sanofi markets Praluent outside the United States, and Organon sells ezetimibe and its statin combinations. Menarini holds exclusive European rights to obicetrapib and starts from zero; generic makers such as Teva, Sandoz, Krka and Zentiva share most of the remaining 66.9%.

## What does a treated patient-year cost, and how fast does the price rise?

A treated patient-year of hypercholesterolemia drugs costs about USD 88.41 net in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, 8.3% below the USD 96.40 world average, from about USD 48.64 for statins to several thousand dollars for an antibody year.

The regional average sits below the world figure because generic statins dominate volume and European list prices for branded lipid drugs are lower than in the United States. Douglas Insights estimates a PCSK9 antibody year at about USD 4,100 net and an inclisiran maintenance year, two injections, at about USD 3,600 net across the region, with confidential discounts in several countries. Under the English deal, general practices pay a nominal GBP 45 a syringe and are reimbursed GBP 60, so the practice earns GBP 15 an injection, or GBP 30 a patient-year, per the [NHS England letter](https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/cvd-disease-prevention-lipid-management-inclisiran/). The 1.95% price leg takes the average to about USD 90.13 in 2026 and USD 107.24 in 2035.

Two forces set the price leg. Mix shift to antibodies, siRNA and branded oral agents adds about 2.90 points a year, a Douglas Insights estimate. Against that, price cuts take about 0.95 points back: generic statin and ezetimibe tenders keep resetting tablet prices, and reference pricing in Germany and France trims branded prices after launch. The arrival of obicetrapib as a second branded oral class adds to mix but also gives payers a cheaper alternative to injectables for some patients.

## What rules and policies govern hypercholesterolemia drugs, from approvals to reimbursement deals?

Three layers of policy govern hypercholesterolemia drugs in the region: European Commission approvals such as obicetrapib in 2026, national reimbursement deals such as England's inclisiran price held to December 2027, and the clinical guidelines that payers follow.

The approval layer decides timing. The [European Medicines Agency](https://www.ema.europa.eu/)'s CHMP backed obicetrapib and its ezetimibe combination on 23 July 2026, [European Biotechnology reported](https://european-biotechnology.com/latest-news/chmp-backs-first-cetp-inhibitor-after-two-decades-of-failure/), and the Commission approval followed, reported on [22 September 2026](https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/news/ec-menarini-newamsterdams-obicetrapib-therapies/). Merck's oral PCSK9 inhibitor Lipfendra won US approval on [16 July 2026](https://www.merck.com/news/mercks-lipfendra-enlicitide-is-the-first-and-only-once-daily-oral-pcsk9-inhibitor-approved-by-the-u-s-fda-to-reduce-ldl-c-in-adults-with-hypercholesterolemia/); Douglas Insights adds it to European volume only from 2028, a modelling assumption.

The reimbursement layer sets access. England's agreement holds the inclisiran price for current and new patients until December 2027 and says changes from January 2028 will not affect patients already treated, and a Drug Tariff change from 1 April 2025 set the practice reimbursement, per [NHS England](https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/cvd-disease-prevention-lipid-management-inclisiran/). Each new oral agent now needs national price and reimbursement decisions before sales start. The guideline layer shapes prescribing: the ESC and EAS update of [31 August 2025](https://www.escardio.org/news/news-room/congress-news/2025-focused-update-dyslipidaemias/) keeps LDL-C targets but endorses combination therapy, bempedoic acid and lipoprotein(a) testing, which payers cite when they set criteria. Douglas Insights treats the end of the English price agreement in December 2027 as the main pricing event of the forecast.

## What if new oral agents spread faster or prices fall harder: how large is the hypercholesterolemia drugs market in 2035?

The hypercholesterolemia drugs market ends 2035 between USD 6.77 billion and USD 9.09 billion across three cases, around a USD 7.89 billion base. Uptake of injections and new oral agents sets most of the spread.

| Case | Volume leg | Price leg | Revenue rate | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 0.60% | 1.20% | 1.81% | USD 6.77 billion |
| Base case | 1.40% | 1.95% | 3.38% | USD 7.89 billion |
| Faster | 2.20% | 2.60% | 4.86% | USD 9.09 billion |

In the slower case English uptake stalls after the December 2027 price deal ends, payers keep antibodies in specialist clinics and generic tenders bite harder, taking 0.80 points off volume and 0.75 points off price. In the faster case obicetrapib and an oral PCSK9 pill reach most countries by 2028 and guideline-driven combination therapy doubles goal attainment, adding 0.80 points to volume and 0.65 points to price. One extra point of yearly revenue growth adds about USD 797.0 million to 2035 value, and one point less removes about USD 730.6 million, Douglas Insights estimates.

Company signals bracket the base case. Leqvio grew 63% and Repatha 37% in the third quarter of 2026 and Daiichi Sankyo's bempedoic acid revenue rose 59% in its first quarter, while Viatris's Developed Markets slipped 1%, the sources above show. Our 3.38% sits between fast-growing branded agents and a large generic base whose price keeps falling.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Primary Care Injection Gap Ledger

The Primary Care Injection Gap Ledger is a Douglas Insights model built from 9 inputs: 4 government, regulator or professional-body documents and 5 company filings or releases. It measures how far injectable LDL-lowering treatment sits below its eligible pool, using England as the measured case.

| Date | Input | What it moves |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 13 February 2025 | 19,416 English primary-care inclisiran patients to October 2024 | Measured uptake |
| 5 June 2025 | 73 million atorvastatin items in England | Statin base |
| 31 August 2025 | ESC/EAS focused update | Combination demand |
| 11 January 2026 | Bempedoic acid in 30 EU countries, 600,000 treated | Oral alternative |
| 2025 to 2027 | NHS England price held to December 2027, pool of about 600,000 | Eligible pool |
| 23 July 2026 | CHMP backs obicetrapib | Oral alternative |
| 31 July 2026 | NILEMDO and NUSTENDI JPY 20.0 billion, up 59% | Oral uptake |
| 27 October 2026 | Leqvio USD 506 million, up 63% | siRNA uptake |
| 3 November 2026 | Repatha outside the United States USD 419 million | Antibody uptake |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: England's primary-care inclisiran uptake reached 19,416 of an eligible pool of about 600,000, or 3.2%, after three years, and even the 3,231 patients prescribed in October 2024 imply that closing half the gap would take about 7.5 years at that monthly pace. Scaled to the region, we estimate about 4.6 million patient-years are eligible for an injectable or a newer oral agent but receive neither, against about 1.0 million treated with one in 2025.

The ledger changes how to read the next two years. New oral agents, bempedoic acid and obicetrapib, can fill part of the gap without injection clinics, which is why we give oral agents the same 10.5% rate as siRNA. If the end of the English price agreement in December 2027 brings a higher price, injectable uptake slows and the oral share of add-on therapy rises further; if it brings wider practice incentives, the faster case comes into reach.

## How does the methodology turn 64.0 million patient-years into USD 5.66 billion?

Our methodology multiplies about 64.0 million treated patient-years by an average net USD 88.41 to reach USD 5.66 billion in 2025, then grows patient-years 1.40% and price 1.95% a year.

The model covers 5 drug classes, 2 routes, 3 channels, 3 patient types and 7 countries or sub-regions, using 64 data points, 20 sourced and 44 modelled. Patient-years come from prescription statistics, prevalence surveys and company sales; prices come from reimbursement decisions, tariff notices and net-to-list estimates, all Douglas Insights estimates. Arithmetic: 64.0 million x USD 88.41 = USD 5.66 billion; USD 5.66 billion x (1.0140 x 1.0195)^10 = USD 7.89 billion, within 0.03% of the headline. Patient-years reach about 64.9 million in 2026 and 73.5 million in 2035.

Two cross-checks agree. First, USD 5.66 billion is the Europe row of our worldwide model, 24.6% of its USD 23.00 billion total, and our 3.38% rate equals that row's rate. Second, our Amgen estimate of about USD 701.6 million is consistent with USD 419 million of Repatha sales outside the United States in a single 2026 quarter, most of it European, after allowing for 37% growth. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## What counts in the hypercholesterolemia drugs study, and what is excluded?

The study counts prescription LDL-lowering medicines sold in Europe, valued at net manufacturer prices: statins, ezetimibe products, PCSK9 antibodies, siRNA and oral agents such as bempedoic acid and obicetrapib. Fibrates, omega-3 products, supplements and lipid tests are excluded.

The study splits value by 5 drug classes, 2 routes, 3 channels, 3 patient types and 7 countries or sub-regions: Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, the Nordic countries and the Rest of Europe. Hospital and retail prescriptions both count; samples and trial supply do not.
