## Key takeaways

- The Europe kitchen tools market is worth USD 4.50 billion in 2025 and USD 6.07 billion in 2035, a 3.04% revenue CAGR.
- 800.6 million pieces at USD 5.62 make up the 2025 base; pieces grow 1.30% and price per piece 1.72% a year.
- Kitchen knives and cutlery hold 33.5% of value and grow fastest at 3.60% a year.
- Germany buys USD 990 million, 22.0% of value; Poland and Central and Eastern Europe grow fastest at 4.90%.
- Shoppers bought 1.7% more non-food goods in August 2026 while Groupe SEB's regional sell-in fell 1.5% in the third quarter: retailers are destocking.

Groupe SEB said on 22 October 2026 that its sales in Western Europe fell 1.5% like-for-like in the third quarter as retailers "continued to reduce their inventory levels", yet cookware and kitchen utensils held up better than small appliances, its [nine-month 2026 sales release](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261022798928/en/Groupe-SEB-Nine-Month-2026-Sales-and-Financial-Data) states. European shoppers keep buying knives, spatulas and peelers while stores run down stock. The Europe kitchen tools market covers hand-held, non-electric tools sold to households and foodservice kitchens across the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland and the rest of Europe: kitchen knives and cutlery, cooking utensils, food preparation gadgets, measuring and baking tools, and cutting boards, valued at manufacturer selling prices. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 4.50 billion in 2025, from 800.6 million pieces at an average USD 5.62 a piece, and at USD 6.07 billion in 2035, a revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 3.04%. The study is the Europe row of our worldwide [Kitchen Tools Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchen-tools-market/) report, sits beside our [Asia Pacific Kitchen Tools Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/asia-pacific-kitchen-tools-market/) and [Kitchenware Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchenware-market/) studies inside our [consumer goods coverage](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/consumer-goods-retail/), and every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which kitchen tools product earns the most in Europe: knives, utensils or gadgets?

Kitchen knives and cutlery earn the most Europe kitchen tools value, 33.5% of 2025, USD 1.51 billion, a Douglas Insights estimate. Knives also grow fastest, 3.60% a year, to USD 2.15 billion by 2035.

| Product | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Kitchen knives and cutlery | 33.5% | USD 1.51 billion | 3.60% | USD 2.15 billion |
| Cooking utensils | 23.0% | USD 1.03 billion | 2.50% | USD 1.32 billion |
| Food preparation gadgets | 20.5% | USD 922 million | 3.30% | USD 1.28 billion |
| Measuring and baking tools | 14.0% | USD 630 million | 3.00% | USD 847 million |
| Cutting boards | 9.0% | USD 405 million | 2.20% | USD 503 million |

Kitchen knives and cutlery, USD 1.51 billion, lead because European buyers pay USD 40 to USD 200 for forged chef's knives, and because a knife sells for about seven times a spatula at manufacturer prices. The 33.5% share sits above the 31.7% we measure worldwide, a Douglas Insights estimate. Knives grow 3.60% a year, the fastest line, as households trade up to forged and Japanese-style blades; Groupe SEB named cookware and kitchen utensils among the product lines with favourable momentum in its [2025 results of 24 February 2026](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260224283063/en/Result-Down-in-2025-Launch-of-a-Plan-to-Return-to-Our-Profitable-Growth-Trajectory). Cooking utensils, USD 1.03 billion or 23.0%, are the largest line by pieces, ladles, spatulas, turners and tongs at USD 1.50 to USD 8, but grow only 2.50% a year because they last for years.

Food preparation gadgets, USD 922 million or 20.5%, grow 3.30% a year on peelers, graters, garlic presses, salad spinners and spiralisers that online shops and social video now sell. Measuring and baking tools, USD 630 million or 14.0%, grow 3.00% as home baking holds the gains it made in 2020 and 2021. Cutting boards, USD 405 million or 9.0%, grow 2.20%, the slowest, because a wood or plastic board is replaced rarely. Product values for 2035 sum to USD 6.10 billion, 0.45% above the USD 6.07 billion headline.

### Kitchen tools by material, channel and end user

By material, stainless steel carries about 49% of 2025 value, USD 2.20 billion, because blades, whisks, ladles and measuring spoons are made from it; silicone carries about 20%, USD 900 million, nylon about 17%, USD 765 million, and wood and bamboo about 14%, USD 630 million, all Douglas Insights estimates. Silicone gains about 0.5 share points a year from nylon and coated plastic as buyers and retailers look for documented, bisphenol-free materials. By channel, mass merchants and supermarkets sell about 33% of value, online retail about 30%, specialty kitchen and department stores about 28% and discounters and warehouse clubs about 9%, Douglas Insights estimates; online gains about 1.0 share point a year. Households buy about 85% of value and foodservice kitchens about 15%.

## What drives Europe kitchen tools piece sales up 1.30% a year?

Europe kitchen tools piece sales rise 1.30% a year, from 800.6 million in 2025 to 910.6 million in 2035, because small households, online discovery, foodservice replacement and compliant-material restocking add 1.80 gross points before restraints.

Price per piece adds 1.72% a year, from USD 5.62 to about USD 6.67, so revenue grows 3.04%. Four drivers make up the gross volume leg, all Douglas Insights estimates unless a source is linked.

### Small and single-person households: 0.40 points

Household formation adds 0.40 points. Eurostat counts 203.1 million households in the European Union in 2025, and more than 76 million of them are single adults without children, its [household composition statistics](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Household_composition_statistics) show. Every new household needs a first kit of knives, a peeler, a ladle and a board whatever its size, so the number of homes matters more than the number of people. Douglas Insights counts a first kit at 10 to 14 pieces worth about USD 55 at manufacturer prices; if households rise about 0.5% a year, that is about one million new kitchens and roughly 12 million first-kit pieces a year, about 1.5% of yearly piece sales.

### Online and social discovery: 0.50 points

Online selling adds 0.50 points, the largest driver. Groupe SEB said its cookware in one of the region's largest markets "posted good performance, especially online" in its [first-half 2026 results of 22 July 2026](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260722362541/en/), while small domestic appliances declined. A short video of a garlic press or a vegetable spiraliser sells a gadget that no supermarket shelf would carry. Online retail carries about 30% of 2025 value, about USD 1.35 billion, and each extra share point moves about USD 45 million of yearly sales from stores to web shops, a Douglas Insights estimate; we expect online to reach about 40% by 2035.

### Foodservice replacement: 0.45 points

Foodservice kitchens add 0.45 points. Restaurants, canteens, hotels and delivery kitchens wear out tongs, ladles and knives in months, and hygiene audits require colour-coded boards and knives for raw and cooked foods. Foodservice buys about 11% of pieces but 15% of value, about USD 675 million in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, because commercial knives and tongs are heavier and dearer than household ones. Groupe SEB's professional business, which includes coffee machines and hotel equipment, fell 4.8% like-for-like to EUR 691 million in the first nine months of 2026, its [release](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261022798928/en/Groupe-SEB-Nine-Month-2026-Sales-and-Financial-Data) shows, so we hold this driver below the household drivers.

### Compliant-material restocking: 0.45 points

Restocking adds the last 0.45 points. Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 allowed repeat-use food contact articles made with bisphenol A to be first placed on the market only until 20 July 2026, the [regulation text of 19 December 2024](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=OJ:L_202403190) states, so retailers replace polycarbonate measuring jugs, coated utensils and some plastic boards with silicone, steel and bisphenol-free resins. Douglas Insights estimates that about 18 million pieces are brought forward across 2025 to 2027. The four contributions, 0.40 + 0.50 + 0.45 + 0.45, give 1.80 points; after 0.50 points of restraints the 1.30% volume leg times the 1.72% price leg gives the 3.04% revenue rate.

## What holds back Europe kitchen tools volume: retailer destocking, high inflation or full drawers?

Three restraints remove 0.50 points a year from Europe kitchen tools volume growth: retailer destocking takes 0.20 points, high consumer inflation 0.20 points and full kitchen drawers 0.10 points, Douglas Insights estimates.

Retailer destocking is the largest brake in the near term. Groupe SEB said retailers kept cutting inventory in the third quarter of 2026, and its [nine-month release](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261022798928/en/Groupe-SEB-Nine-Month-2026-Sales-and-Financial-Data) shows group sales of EUR 5.71 billion, up only 1.1% like-for-like, with third-quarter sales of EUR 1.96 billion down 0.1%. Leifheit, the maker of kitchen gadgets, cleaning and laundry products, reported nine-month 2026 Household segment sales of EUR 140.0 million against EUR 150.1 million a year earlier, and group sales down 5.5% to EUR 169.1 million, its [quarterly statement of 5 November 2026](https://www.finanzen.net/nachricht/aktien/eqs-news-leifheit-ag-publishes-its-q3-2026-quarterly-statement-and-accelerates-the-focus-performance-program-16039399) shows.

High inflation takes 0.20 points. Annual inflation reached 3.8% in September 2026, up from 3.2% in August and 2.2% a year earlier, Eurostat's [inflation release of 16 October 2026](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/news/euro-indicators) shows, and shoppers who pay more for energy and food postpone a new knife block. Full drawers take the last 0.10 points: most homes already own the basic tools, so replacement, not first purchase, makes up about four in five pieces sold, a Douglas Insights estimate. A household that buys a USD 90 forged knife may not replace it for 15 years, which caps piece volume even as value rises.

## Where in Europe are kitchen tools bought most: Germany, France or the United Kingdom?

Germany buys the most kitchen tools in Europe, USD 990 million or 22.0% of 2025, a Douglas Insights estimate. Poland and Central and Eastern Europe grow fastest, 4.90% a year, from USD 405 million to USD 653 million.

| Country or sub-region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Germany | USD 990 million | 22.0% | USD 1.01 billion | 2.40% | USD 1.25 billion |
| France | USD 675 million | 15.0% | USD 693 million | 2.70% | USD 881 million |
| United Kingdom | USD 652 million | 14.5% | USD 672 million | 3.00% | USD 877 million |
| Italy | USD 472 million | 10.5% | USD 485 million | 2.60% | USD 611 million |
| Spain | USD 338 million | 7.5% | USD 349 million | 3.40% | USD 471 million |
| Benelux | USD 293 million | 6.5% | USD 301 million | 2.90% | USD 389 million |
| Nordic countries | USD 270 million | 6.0% | USD 278 million | 2.80% | USD 356 million |
| Poland and Central and Eastern Europe | USD 405 million | 9.0% | USD 425 million | 4.90% | USD 653 million |
| Rest of Europe | USD 405 million | 9.0% | USD 420 million | 3.60% | USD 577 million |

Germany leads because it has the most households in the region, a cutlery tradition centred on Solingen and strong online shops, but it grows only 2.40% a year. Groupe SEB said its 2025 sales in Germany were below expectations, while its Western European sales rose 1.0% like-for-like to EUR 2.56 billion, its [2025 results](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260224283063/en/Result-Down-in-2025-Launch-of-a-Plan-to-Return-to-Our-Profitable-Growth-Trajectory) show; in the first half of 2026 its Western European sales grew 2.0%, and WMF and Tefal cookware did well in Germany, especially online, its [half-year release](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260722362541/en/) states. France, USD 675 million, grows 2.70% on a strong cooking culture and Tefal's home market. The United Kingdom, USD 652 million, grows 3.00% as online gadget brands sell well there.

Italy, USD 472 million, grows 2.60%, held back by an older population; Spain, USD 338 million, grows 3.40% on new households and tourism-driven foodservice. Benelux, USD 293 million, grows 2.90%, and the Nordic countries, USD 270 million, grow 2.80%, with high prices per piece. Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, USD 405 million, grow fastest at 4.90% a year as incomes rise and buyers move from loose, unbranded tools to branded sets. The rest of Europe, from Switzerland and Austria to Portugal, Greece and the Balkans, holds USD 405 million and grows 3.60%. Country values sum to USD 4.64 billion in 2026, 0.02% below the headline, and USD 6.07 billion in 2035, 0.01% below it; in the data table the row labelled Global holds the Europe total.

## Who sells the most kitchen tools: Groupe SEB, Zwilling or Fiskars?

Groupe SEB, with Tefal and WMF, sells the most kitchen tools here, about 6.8% of 2025 value, USD 306 million, a Douglas Insights estimate. The top three, Groupe SEB, Zwilling and Fiskars Group, hold about 13.5%; the market is fragmented.

| Company | What the position rests on | Estimated share 2025 | Estimated value 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Groupe SEB | Tefal utensils and Ingenio tools, WMF knives and gadgets | 6.8% | USD 306 million |
| Zwilling J.A. Henckels | Forged knives under Zwilling, Henckels, Miyabi and Staub tools | 4.6% | USD 207 million |
| Fiskars Group | Fiskars-brand knives, scissors and kitchen tools | 2.1% | USD 94.5 million |
| Victorinox | Swiss kitchen and professional knives | 1.8% | USD 81.0 million |
| Leifheit | Kitchen gadgets, salad spinners, graters and slicers | 1.5% | USD 67.5 million |
| Joseph Joseph | Design-led preparation tools and boards | 1.2% | USD 54.0 million |
| Opinel | Kitchen and table knives | 0.8% | USD 36.0 million |
| Other companies | Brabantia, OXO, Robert Welch, Le Creuset, Lacor, retailer private label and hundreds of small cutlers | 81.2% | USD 3.65 billion |

All shares are Douglas Insights estimates because most suppliers report cookware, appliances and tools together. Groupe SEB's group sales were EUR 8.17 billion in 2025, up 0.3% like-for-like, and it launched a plan affecting up to 1,400 positions in the region, its [2025 results](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260224283063/en/Result-Down-in-2025-Launch-of-a-Plan-to-Return-to-Our-Profitable-Growth-Trajectory) state; tools are a small part of that total. Fiskars Group's net sales were EUR 1,140.2 million in 2025, flat on a comparable basis, with comparable sales in its Vita business area up 3% and its Fiskars business area, which holds the knives, scissors and garden tools, down 3%, its [financial statement release of 5 February 2026](https://fiskarsgroup.com/news/stock-exchange-release/fiskars-corporations-financial-statement-release-2025-focus-on-cash-flow-yielded-results-comparable-ebit-declined-impacted-by-inventory-actions/) shows.

Leifheit's group sales fell to EUR 232.6 million in 2025 from EUR 259.2 million, its [annual report release of 31 March 2026](https://www.finanzen.net/nachricht/aktien/eqs-news-leifheit-ag-publishes-annual-report-2025-and-launches-next-strategy-phase-with-growth-and-efficiency-program-15585697) states, and it expects a further mid-single-digit decline in 2026. Mid-sized brands are losing shelf space to retailer private label and online-only brands, which together hold a large part of the 81.2% held by other companies. Zwilling, Victorinox and Opinel are family or foundation owned and publish few figures, so their shares rest on store and web price checks.

## How much does a kitchen tools piece cost in Europe, from a USD 1.50 spatula to a USD 200 forged knife?

A kitchen tools piece cost an average USD 5.62 in 2025, a Douglas Insights estimate, 26% above the worldwide USD 4.46, from USD 1.50 for a nylon spatula to USD 200 for a forged chef's knife.

| Product | Typical manufacturer price per piece, 2025 | What sets it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cooking utensils | USD 1.50 to USD 8 | Nylon, silicone or steel; private-label competition |
| Food preparation gadgets | USD 3 to USD 20 | Design, brand, online promotion |
| Measuring and baking tools | USD 2 to USD 12 | Steel and silicone grades |
| Cutting boards | USD 4 to USD 40 | Wood species, composite or plastic |
| Kitchen knives, mass market | USD 5 to USD 20 | Stamped steel, imported blades |
| Kitchen knives, premium | USD 40 to USD 200 | Forged steel, brand, hand finishing |

The bands are Douglas Insights estimates from manufacturer list prices and retailer shelves. The average is higher than the world figure because premium knives and branded gadgets take a larger share of sales, while very cheap market-stall tools take a smaller one. Price per piece rises 1.72% a year, to USD 5.72 in 2026 and USD 6.67 in 2035, because buyers trade up to forged knives and silicone, and because importers pass on freight and steel costs; private label holds mass-market prices nearly flat. With general inflation at 3.8% in September 2026, Eurostat's [release of 16 October 2026](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/news/euro-indicators) shows, the price leg is set below headline inflation because tools compete on promotion.

## Which rules shape kitchen tools sales: the bisphenol A ban or the product safety regulation?

Two rule sets shape Europe kitchen tools sales most: Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 on bisphenol A in food contact materials, and the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, which applies from 13 December 2024.

The bisphenol A regulation, adopted on 19 December 2024, bans the substance in food contact materials and sets transition dates: repeat-use articles could be first placed on the market until 20 July 2026, repeat-use professional food production equipment until 20 January 2028, and such articles may remain on the market until 20 January 2029 at the latest, the [EUR-Lex text](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=OJ:L_202403190) states. For kitchen tools the main products affected are polycarbonate jugs, measuring cups and some coated or plastic utensils; steel, silicone and wood tools are not.

The [General Product Safety Regulation](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/988/oj/eng) covers consumer products sold in stores and online and gives providers of online marketplaces direct safety duties, so platforms must act on unsafe gadgets and knives sold by third-party sellers. Douglas Insights expects these rules to favour brands that hold documented supply chains, and to raise compliance costs for the smallest importers, which is part of why we expect private-label growth to come from large retailers rather than marketplace sellers.

## What if retailers keep destocking: Europe kitchen tools value in 2035 under three cases

The Europe kitchen tools market ends 2035 between USD 5.33 billion and USD 6.89 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 6.07 billion. Retail stock levels and trading up to premium knives set most of the spread.

| Case | Pieces leg | Price per piece leg | Revenue rate | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 0.50% | 1.20% | 1.71% | USD 5.33 billion |
| Base case | 1.30% | 1.72% | 3.04% | USD 6.07 billion |
| Faster | 2.10% | 2.20% | 4.35% | USD 6.89 billion |

In the slower case retailers keep cutting stock into 2027, inflation stays near 4% and private label wins share, taking 0.80 points off volume and 0.52 points off price. In the faster case online gadget sales accelerate and households trade up to forged knives faster, adding 0.80 points to volume and 0.48 points to price. One extra point of yearly revenue growth adds about USD 600 million to 2035 value; one point less removes about USD 550 million, Douglas Insights estimates.

The 3.04% base rate sits below the 4.35% we use for the worldwide kitchen tools market and the 5.47% for Asia Pacific, because European kitchens are full and households grow slowly.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Shelf Destocking Ledger

The Shelf Destocking Ledger is a Douglas Insights model built from 8 inputs: 4 company releases and 4 official documents dated December 2024 to November 2026. It compares what shoppers buy with what suppliers sell in.

| Date | Input | What it moves |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 19 December 2024 | Bisphenol A regulation adopted; repeat-use cut-off 20 July 2026 | Restocking |
| 5 February 2026 | Fiskars Group Vita comparable sales +3%, Fiskars business area -3% | Brand mix |
| 24 February 2026 | Groupe SEB 2025 regional sales +1.0% like-for-like | Supplier sell-in |
| 22 July 2026 | Groupe SEB first half 2026 regional sales +2.0% | Supplier sell-in |
| 6 October 2026 | Eurostat: non-food retail volume +1.7%, August 2026 | Shopper sell-out |
| 16 October 2026 | Eurostat: inflation 3.8% in September 2026 | Real spending |
| 22 October 2026 | Groupe SEB third-quarter regional sales -1.5% like-for-like; retailers cut stock | Supplier sell-in |
| 5 November 2026 | Leifheit nine-month Household sales EUR 140.0 million, -6.7% | Supplier sell-in |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: retail volume of non-food goods excluding fuel rose 1.7% in August 2026 from a year earlier, Eurostat's [retail trade release of 6 October 2026](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/product?code=4-06102026-ap) shows, while Groupe SEB's regional sell-in fell 1.5% in the third quarter. The gap of about 3.2 points means shoppers are buying more tools than retailers are reordering. Applied to the USD 4.50 billion market, it implies about USD 144 million of 2026 sell-in deferred into retailer stock rundown.

The ledger changes how to read 2027. Retail stock cannot fall forever, so once retailers stop destocking, supplier sales should run about 1 to 2 points above shopper demand for two or three quarters. That is why our base case keeps 2026 growth at 3.04% and treats the third-quarter dip as timing, not lost demand; if destocking runs past mid-2027, the slower case becomes more likely.

## How does the methodology turn 800.6 million pieces into USD 4.50 billion of Europe kitchen tools sales?

Our methodology multiplies 800.6 million kitchen tools pieces sold in 2025 by an average USD 5.62 a piece to reach USD 4.50 billion. Pieces come from nine country and sub-region builds; prices come from manufacturer lists and shelf checks.

The model covers 9 countries or sub-regions, 5 products, 4 materials, 4 channels and 2 end users, and uses 96 data points, 18 sourced and 78 modelled. Euro figures are converted at USD 1.13 per euro, the Douglas Insights 2025 average. Arithmetic: 800.6 million pieces x USD 5.62 = USD 4,499.4 million; USD 4,499.4 million x (1.0130 x 1.0172)^10 = USD 6,070.3 million, the USD 6.07 billion headline. Pieces reach 811.0 million in 2026 and 910.6 million in 2035; price per piece reaches USD 5.72 in 2026; 2026 value is USD 4.64 billion.

Two cross-checks agree. First, the Europe row of our worldwide [Kitchen Tools Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchen-tools-market/) model is USD 4.50 billion in 2025 and USD 6.07 billion in 2035, 24.1% of the USD 18.67 billion world total. Second, our 800.6 million pieces are 19.1% of the 4.19 billion pieces sold worldwide, consistent with Europe's higher average price. ## Do chef's knives, silicone spatulas and restaurant tools count in the kitchen tools total, and what is excluded?

Yes: the USD 4.50 billion total counts hand-held, non-electric tools at manufacturer prices, including chef's knives, silicone spatulas and restaurant tools. Pans, food containers, electric appliances, tableware, retail margins and sales taxes are excluded.

The by-product split covers kitchen knives and cutlery, cooking utensils, food preparation gadgets, measuring and baking tools, and cutting boards; the by-material split covers stainless steel, silicone, nylon, and wood and bamboo; the by-channel split covers mass merchants, online retail, specialty kitchen stores, and discounters and warehouse clubs; the by-end-user split covers households and foodservice kitchens. Pans and containers sit in our [Kitchenware Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/kitchenware-market/) report, and the same product lines across Asian countries in our [Asia Pacific Kitchen Tools Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/asia-pacific-kitchen-tools-market/) study.
