## Key takeaways

- 2.064 million interactive kiosks at a blended USD 8,815 each make a USD 18.19 billion market in 2025.
- The base case reaches USD 40.84 billion by 2035, an 8.42% annual rise from 6.4% unit growth and 1.9% price growth.
- Self-order and self-checkout kiosks hold 38.6% of 2025 value; patient check-in kiosks grow fastest at 11.4% a year.
- North America leads with USD 6.70 billion; Asia Pacific grows fastest at 9.9% a year to USD 11.74 billion.
- The top three suppliers hold about 11.4% of revenue by Douglas Insights estimate, led by NCR Voyix at about 5.4%.

USD 107,700 a machine, with five years of support folded in, is the realised contract price inside [Metra's order for 650 ticket vending machines (TVMs)](https://legacy.metra.com/newsroom/metra-approves-major-ticket-vending-machine-contract), which its board approved on 12 November 2021 at a ceiling of USD 70 million. Interactive kiosks are touchscreen self-service terminals that let a customer order, pay, check in, print a ticket or look up information without a staff member; the Interactive Kiosk Market covers the hardware, software and services sold with them, and leaves out cash-dispensing automated teller machines (ATMs). Douglas Insights estimates 2.064 million kiosks shipped worldwide in 2025 at a blended USD 8,815 each, which gives USD 18.19 billion, and the base case reaches USD 40.84 billion by 2035, an 8.42% annual rise. Accessibility now shapes every new order: the [European Accessibility Act (EAA)](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32019L0882) applies to ticketing machines, check-in machines and interactive information terminals placed on the EU market after 28 June 2025. The study belongs to our [Information Technology and Semiconductors research](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/ict-semiconductors/), and each step of the build follows our [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## What price bands do self-order kiosks, library selfCheck units and ticket machines clear at?

Interactive kiosk prices span almost two orders of magnitude, from about USD 1,500 for a 10-inch counter-top unit to about USD 107,700 for a transit ticket machine. Douglas Insights puts the 2025 blended price at USD 8,815 per kiosk, software licence and installation included, across all five kiosk types.

| Kiosk format | Typical build | Price per unit | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Counter-top tablet kiosk | 10.1-inch Android screen, scanner | USD 1,500 to 3,000 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Library self-service kiosk | radio-frequency identification (RFID) pad, receipt printer | GBP 4,200 with five years of upkeep | Medway Council tender |
| Restaurant self-order kiosk | 24- to 32-inch floor stand, card reader | USD 5,500 to 11,000 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Retail self-checkout lane | scanner-scale, bagging area, payment | USD 18,000 to 35,000 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Transit ticket vending machine | cash and card, fare media printer | about USD 107,700 with five years of support | Metra contract |

The low end is set by public tenders. [Medway Council's tender notice](https://www.find-tender.service.gov.uk/Notice/056420-2025) budgets an estimated GBP 42,000 including value added tax (VAT) to supply, install and maintain 10 self-serve kiosks at 9 library sites, with five years of upkeep, technical support and extended warranty. That is GBP 4,200 per kiosk for the full term, a price only reachable because library kiosks reuse the council's existing library management system.

Counter-top devices sit lower still. Zebra's CC6000 interactive kiosk is a 10.1-inch touchscreen running Android, upgradeable to Android 14, built for price lookup, order pickup check-in and associate video calls. At the top, a fare machine has to take cash, print fare media and survive a station platform, which is why Metra's average works out at about USD 107,700 per unit.

Douglas Insights expects the blended kiosk price to climb 1.9% a year, from USD 8,815 in 2025 to USD 10,641 by 2035. Three things push it up: mix moves toward self-checkout lanes and patient check-in units, buyers now specify tactile keypads and audio output for accessibility, and more contracts bundle five years of support.

## Which kiosk format makes the money: self-order screens, ticket machines or bill-payment units?

Self-order and self-checkout kiosks earn USD 7.02 billion, 38.6% of 2025 interactive kiosk revenue, because restaurant and grocery chains buy them by the store, not by the site. Patient check-in kiosks grow fastest, at 11.4% a year, to USD 5.03 billion by 2035.

| Kiosk type | Share 2025 | 2025 value | Growth 2026-2035 | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Self-order and self-checkout kiosks | 38.6% | USD 7.02 billion | 9.6% | USD 17.56 billion |
| Ticketing and check-in kiosks | 19.3% | USD 3.51 billion | 7.2% | USD 7.04 billion |
| Banking and bill-payment kiosks | 17.2% | USD 3.13 billion | 5.6% | USD 5.40 billion |
| Information and wayfinding kiosks | 15.5% | USD 2.82 billion | 7.3% | USD 5.71 billion |
| Patient check-in kiosks | 9.4% | USD 1.71 billion | 11.4% | USD 5.03 billion |

Self-order and self-checkout kiosks lead at USD 7.02 billion because one quick-service restaurant typically takes several screens and one supermarket several lanes. Ticketing and check-in kiosks hold USD 3.51 billion, a 19.3% share built on few units at very high prices. Banking and bill-payment kiosks bring USD 3.13 billion but grow only 5.6% a year as branch networks shrink. Information and wayfinding kiosks, at USD 2.82 billion, serve malls, campuses, museums and libraries.

Patient check-in kiosks are the smallest kiosk type at USD 1.71 billion and the fastest at 11.4%. Hospitals use them to move registration, insurance capture and co-payment collection away from front-desk staff, and each unit replaces work that clinics struggle to staff. By 2035 the self-order group still holds about 43.0% of kiosk value.

## Why are quick-service chains, grocers and hospitals adding kiosk screens faster than counter staff?

Interactive kiosk shipments rise 6.4% a year in the base case, from 2.064 million units in 2025 to 3.84 million in 2035. Four demand forces add 8.3 points of gross unit growth, and the headwinds in the next section take back 1.9 points.

Restaurant self-ordering adds 2.8 points. McDonald's alone reports 45,356 restaurants in its latest annual report, and Douglas Insights assumes chains of that scale fit self-order kiosks in new and remodelled stores. [Acrelec, now wholly owned by Glory](https://acrelec.com/glory-acquires-remaining-equity-shares-in-acrelec-group/), counts more than 120,000 installations in over 70 countries, most of them with restaurant brands. We assume a remodel cycle of seven to ten years, which keeps replacement orders coming even in mature markets.

Retail self-checkout and assisted kiosks add 2.2 points. [Diebold Nixdorf's results released on 12 February 2026](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/28823/000002882326000006/ex-991q42025erlive.htm) show Retail revenue of USD 1.01 billion for 2025, up from USD 988.3 million, while its Banking line grew only 1.2%. Douglas Insights counts grocers, drugstores and convenience chains as the core buyers here, because each converted staffed lane becomes one self-checkout unit sale.

Healthcare and government check-in adds 1.7 points. North Carolina's motor vehicle division put nine Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) service kiosks into Harris Teeter grocery stores and logged 25,000 customers in the pilot's first year, handling licence renewals, registration renewals and property tax payments. Public libraries buy kiosks in small lots, such as 10 units at a time, and hospitals add patient check-in units clinic by clinic.

Accessibility replacement adds 1.6 points. Under the [EAA](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32019L0882), ticketing machines, check-in machines and interactive information terminals placed on the EU market after 28 June 2025 must be accessible, and older units can stay in service only to the end of their economic life, at most 20 years. In the United States, the Department of Transportation (DOT) requires airlines and airports with 10,000 or more annual enplanements to make at least 25% of each kiosk type accessible. Both rules pull forward orders for new terminals.

Gross and net legs reconcile simply. The four drivers sum to 2.8 + 2.2 + 1.7 + 1.6 = 8.3 points, the restraints sum to 1.9 points, and 8.3 minus 1.9 leaves the 6.4% kiosk unit leg. Restaurant self-ordering alone delivers about one third of the 8.3 points of gross unit growth, which is why the self-order and self-checkout kiosk type keeps gaining share through 2035.

## Which headwinds slow kiosk rollouts, from app ordering to self-checkout shrink?

Three headwinds remove 1.9 points from interactive kiosk unit growth. App and web ordering takes 0.9 points, retailer pull-backs on self-checkout take 0.6 points and accessible hardware costs for small operators take 0.4 points, holding the volume leg at 6.4%.

App ordering is the largest drag at 0.9 points. McDonald's describes ordering through its mobile app and a Ready on Arrival feature that starts assembling an order before the customer walks in, so a growing share of transactions never touches a kiosk screen. Without that drag the 2035 kiosk value would sit about USD 3.59 billion higher.

Self-checkout pull-backs cost 0.6 points. We model fewer self-checkout lanes per grocery remodel than buyers planned, because operators weigh losses at unattended lanes against labour savings. The self-order and self-checkout kiosk type still grows 9.6% a year, but from fewer lanes per store than buyers planned five years ago.

Accessible hardware costs another 0.4 points. Douglas Insights estimates that tactile keypads, audio output, height-adjustable mounts and the testing behind them add 6% to 9% to a kiosk's unit price, enough to delay purchases by independent restaurants, small libraries and single-site clinics that buy one or two kiosks at a time.

## Who supplies the kiosk fleets of restaurant and retail chains, and how concentrated is supply?

No interactive kiosk supplier holds more than about 5.4% of revenue. Douglas Insights estimates the top three, NCR Voyix, Diebold Nixdorf and Glory with Acrelec, at 11.4% combined in 2025, so supply is spread across hardware makers, integrators and software houses.

| Company | Kiosk position built on | Douglas Insights share estimate, 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| NCR Voyix | restaurant and retail self-service platforms | 5.4% |
| Diebold Nixdorf | retail self-checkout and banking self-service | 3.1% |
| Glory with Acrelec | restaurant self-order kiosks, cash automation | 2.9% |
| KIOSK Information Systems | custom kiosk design and volume manufacturing | not estimated |
| Zebra Technologies | CC6000 counter-top interactive kiosk | not estimated |
| Bibliotheca | library selfCheck kiosks | not estimated |
| VenTek International | transit ticket vending machines | not estimated |

NCR Voyix leads with an estimated 5.4% share. Its [full-year results released on 26 February 2026](https://investor.ncr.com/news-releases/news-release-details/ncr-voyix-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2025-results) report USD 818 million of Restaurants revenue and USD 1.84 billion of Retail revenue for 2025, and we attribute about USD 980 million of that to kiosks, self-checkout and their software. Diebold Nixdorf follows at 3.1%, about USD 570 million drawn from a Retail line of USD 1.01 billion and a smaller share of its banking self-service business, as its [2025 results](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/28823/000002882326000006/ex-991q42025erlive.htm) show.

Glory moved up on 26 November 2025, when its subsidiary Glory Global Solutions bought the remaining equity of Acrelec Group, five years after first investing, according to [Acrelec's release](https://acrelec.com/glory-acquires-remaining-equity-shares-in-acrelec-group/). The combined group, at about 2.9% of kiosk revenue, pairs Acrelec's 120,000-plus restaurant installations in over 70 countries with Glory's cash-handling machines.

KIOSK Information Systems has deployed more than 250,000 kiosk units over three decades and builds them with its parent Posiflex under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification. Zebra Technologies sells the 10.1-inch CC6000 into retail, hospitality, healthcare and transportation. Bibliotheca has served libraries for more than five decades, works in more than 100 countries and sells the modular selfCheck 3000 kiosk. VenTek International won Metra's 650-machine TVM order.

## Where will kiosk spending grow fastest across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific?

North America leads interactive kiosk spending at USD 6.70 billion, 36.8% of 2025 revenue. Asia Pacific grows fastest, at 9.9% a year to USD 11.74 billion by 2035, because new stores there open with kiosks built in rather than retrofitted.

North America reaches USD 13.93 billion by 2035 at 7.6% a year, carried by quick-service chains, grocers and the DOT airport kiosk rule. Europe holds USD 4.99 billion in 2025 and grows 8.1% a year to USD 10.86 billion, with the EAA forcing accessible designs on every new terminal. Asia Pacific starts at USD 4.57 billion and passes Europe before 2035, because restaurant, convenience and transit networks there are still adding sites.

Latin America is worth USD 1.02 billion and rises 8.7% a year to USD 2.35 billion as bill-payment and restaurant kiosks spread beyond capital cities. The Middle East and Africa total USD 927.9 million, growing 7.79% a year to USD 1.97 billion. The wildcard is Gulf government services: one large digital-government programme ordering kiosks in the thousands would lift the region well above our base case.

## Which end users buy the most kiosk screens, from quick-service restaurants to hospitals?

Quick-service restaurants buy the most interactive kiosks, at USD 4.97 billion or 27.3% of 2025 revenue, ahead of retail at USD 4.38 billion. Transportation follows at USD 3.06 billion, because airport and rail machines cost far more than restaurant screens.

Banking and financial services spend USD 2.22 billion, 12.2% of kiosk revenue, on deposit, account-service and bill-payment terminals. Healthcare spends USD 1.80 billion and government and libraries USD 1.76 billion. Government and libraries is the most tender-driven group: purchases arrive as notices such as Medway's 10-kiosk order, with five-year maintenance written in.

## Are kiosk buyers paying more for software and service contracts than for the screens themselves?

Hardware still takes 61.3% of interactive kiosk revenue, USD 11.15 billion in 2025, but software at USD 3.07 billion and services at USD 3.97 billion are where repeat income sits. Both grow faster than hardware because operators now buy kiosks with multi-year support attached.

Contracts show the shift. Metra's USD 70 million ceiling covers acquisition plus five years of support and maintenance, and Medway's GBP 42,000 budget covers five years of upkeep. Zebra offers 10 years of LifeGuard security updates on the CC6000 but ties Android version upgrades to a OneCare service contract. Douglas Insights models software and services rising from 38.7% of kiosk revenue in 2025 to about 44% by 2035.

## How do accessibility rules such as the European Accessibility Act reshape kiosk design?

Two rule sets now fix the accessibility bar for interactive kiosks, and both reach 100% of new terminals in scope. The [EAA](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32019L0882) covers terminals placed on the EU market after 28 June 2025, and the DOT airport rule requires 25% of each kiosk type at larger airports to be accessible.

The EAA, Directive (EU) 2019/882, was adopted on 17 April 2019 and lists payment terminals, automated teller machines, ticketing machines, check-in machines and interactive self-service terminals providing information. Terminals built into vehicles, aircraft, ships and rolling stock are excluded. Existing kiosks can keep running until the end of their economic life, capped at 20 years, so the rule works through the replacement cycle rather than through a recall.

The DOT rule applies to airports with 10,000 or more annual enplanements and to kiosks that airlines own, lease or control. New kiosks had to be accessible within three years of the rule taking effect, and 25% of each type at each location within ten years. For kiosk makers the practical result is one accessible hardware platform sold into both regions, which is part of why the price leg runs at 1.9%.

## What if app ordering wins: how far does the kiosk forecast move by 2035?

The 2035 interactive kiosk value spans USD 31.53 billion in the slower case to USD 50.26 billion in the faster case, around a base of USD 40.84 billion. App ordering and self-checkout pull-backs drive the downside; early accessibility replacement drives the upside.

| Case | Unit growth | Price growth | Revenue growth | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 4.4% | 1.2% | 5.65% | USD 31.53 billion |
| Base | 6.4% | 1.9% | 8.42% | USD 40.84 billion |
| Faster | 8.1% | 2.4% | 10.69% | USD 50.26 billion |

In the slower case, mobile ordering takes a larger share of restaurant transactions and grocers keep cutting lanes, so units grow 4.4% and prices 1.2%. In the faster case, EU operators replace pre-2025 terminals early instead of running them for the 20 years the [EAA](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32019L0882) allows after 28 June 2025, and units grow 8.1%. One extra point of unit growth, held for ten years, lifts the 2035 kiosk figure by USD 4.00 billion, about 9.8%.

Published forecasts run from about 8.3% to 10.3% a year. Our 8.42% sits near the bottom of that band because we leave out cash-dispensing ATMs and count only kiosk software sold with the terminal.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Kiosk Unit-Price Tracker

The Kiosk Unit-Price Tracker is a Douglas Insights model, not an official price index, built from 11 sourced inputs. They comprise two public contract prices, three company revenue disclosures, three installed-base counts, one restaurant count, one pilot usage count and one regulation. It sets each kiosk format against the USD 8,815 blended price.

| Tracker entry | Unit price | Times the blended price | Source type |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Transit ticket vending machine | USD 107,700 | 12.2 | public contract |
| Retail self-checkout lane, midpoint | USD 26,500 | 3.0 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Restaurant self-order kiosk, midpoint | USD 8,250 | 0.94 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Counter-top tablet kiosk, midpoint | USD 2,250 | 0.26 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Library self-service kiosk | GBP 4,200 | not converted | public tender |

The tracker's finding is dispersion: the dearest kiosk entry costs about 47.9 times the cheapest. That spread is why ticketing and check-in kiosks hold 19.3% of value on a small share of units, and why a shift of a few thousand units between formats moves the blended price more than any list-price change. We update the tracker as new contract prices are published.

## Which receipts build USD 18.19 billion from 2.064 million kiosk shipments?

2.064 million interactive kiosks at a blended USD 8,815 each equals USD 18.19 billion for 2025. The model counts five regions, five kiosk types, six end-user groups and three components, and rests on 11 sourced inputs plus 4 published growth rates, 15 data points in all.

Units grow 6.4% and price 1.9%, so revenue grows (1.064 x 1.019) minus 1, or 8.42% a year, to USD 40.84 billion. The five regional rows sum exactly to USD 18.19 billion in 2025 and USD 40.84 billion in 2035. The five kiosk types sum to USD 40.74 billion in 2035, within 0.25% of the total.

Three cross-checks hold. Our NCR Voyix attribution of USD 980 million is 36.8% of its combined Restaurants and Retail revenue, against a USD 774 million product revenue line in the same release. KIOSK Information Systems' 250,000 units over about 30 years average roughly 8,300 a year, 0.40% of 2025 shipments, consistent with a fragmented field. Our 2025 value sits 16.8% below the highest published 2025 estimate we read, a gap explained by the ATM exclusion. For adjacent terminals, see our [Outdoor Payment Terminal Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/outdoor-payment-terminal-market/) and [Industrial Vending Machines Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industrial-vending-machines-market/) reports; restaurant back-of-house automation is covered in the [Commercial Kitchen Automation Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/commercial-kitchen-automation-market/) study.
