- Tennant leads with about 19.3%, and the top three makers hold about 41.6%, Douglas Insights estimates.

Tennant Company booked 6.5% lower net sales in 2025, at USD 1.20 billion, yet the same Minnesota maker had already sold its [10,000th robotic scrubber by 3 June 2025](https://investors.tennantco.com/news/news-details/2025/Tennant-Company-Sells-10000th-Robotic-Scrubber-Underscoring-Global-Demand-for-Cleaning-Automation/default.aspx). Those two figures, shrinking machine volume and a fast-climbing robot count, frame the Ride-On Auto Floor Scrubber market. Ride-on auto floor scrubbers are battery or gas-powered scrubber-dryers that an operator drives, or software steers, across warehouse, factory, retail and airport floors; the market covers new compact riders, mid-size and large riders, ride-on sweeper-scrubbers and autonomous robotic scrubbers, but not walk-behind units, parts or service. At 68,400 machines sold and an average realised price of USD 27,350, 2025 revenue comes to USD 1.87 billion. Douglas Insights projects USD 3.28 billion by 2035, a revenue compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.78%, built from 3.6% unit growth and 2.1% price growth. The study belongs to our [industrial automation and robotics](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/ict-semiconductors/industrial-automation-robotics/) coverage and follows the [Douglas Insights research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which ride-on scrubber format makes the money: compact riders, large scrubber-dryers, sweeper-scrubbers or robots?

Compact ride-on scrubber-dryers lead with 34.6% of 2025 value, or USD 647.3 million, because they replace walk-behind fleets in mid-size stores and warehouses. Autonomous robotic scrubbers hold 12.8% but grow fastest, at 15.6% a year, reaching USD 1.02 billion by 2035.

| Ride-on scrubber segment | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | Growth 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Compact ride-on scrubber-dryers | 34.6% | USD 647.3 million | 3.2% | USD 887.0 million |
| Mid-size and large ride-on scrubber-dryers | 32.9% | USD 615.5 million | 2.9% | USD 819.2 million |
| Ride-on sweeper-scrubbers | 19.7% | USD 368.5 million | 4.1% | USD 550.7 million |
| Autonomous robotic scrubbers | 12.8% | USD 239.4 million | 15.6% | USD 1.02 billion |

Compact ride-on scrubber-dryers carry USD 647.3 million and grow 3.2% a year to USD 887.0 million, since a seated operator covers roughly twice the floor of a walk-behind for a modest premium. Mid-size and large ride-on scrubber-dryers account for USD 615.5 million, a 32.9% share, and grow only 2.9% a year because robots take over many of the big, repetitive routes they used to own. Ride-on sweeper-scrubbers are worth USD 368.5 million, or 19.7%, and grow 4.1% a year: plants with debris and dust on the floor need sweeping and scrubbing in one pass.

Autonomous robotic scrubbers are the smallest slice at USD 239.4 million, yet they are the fastest-growing segment at 15.6% a year. Labour is the reason. A robot repeats a mapped route every shift without an operator, so the buyer pays once for the machine and saves hours every night. By 2035, Douglas Insights expects robots to carry 31.1% of ride-on scrubber value. Floors that are coated rather than bare concrete change the pad and chemical choice, a topic sized in our [Industrial Floor Coating Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industrial-floor-coating-market/).

## Why are warehouse operators and airports still buying ride-on scrubbers after a soft 2025?

Ride-on scrubber unit sales grow 3.6% a year to 2035, built from three forces. Cleaning labour shortages add 1.5 points, conversion to robotic scrubbers adds 1.3 points and new warehouse and factory floor space adds 0.8 points, offsetting a weak 2025 for equipment orders.

### Labour shortages add 1.5 points

Labour is the first ride-on scrubber driver. A seated operator on a 32-inch to 40-inch path cleans far more floor per hour than a walk-behind, so contractors short of staff trade up. Tennant, which says it is a leading global maker of floor cleaning equipment, employed 4,484 people at the end of 2025 and sells direct in more than 21 countries and through distributors in more than 100. Douglas Insights puts the productivity effect at 1.5 points of yearly unit growth, the largest of the three, because every site that loses a cleaner tends to buy a bigger machine rather than hire a replacement.

### Robotic conversion adds 1.3 points

Robotic scrubbers are the newest ride-on scrubber driver. Tennant launched its T7AMR in 2018, the compact T380AMR in 2020 and the T16AMR for logistics and manufacturing in 2021, then reached its 10,000th robot sale on 3 June 2025, about 1,350 a year on average. Its X6 ROVR cleans up to 75,000 square feet per cycle. After its 2025 US launch, Tennant expects X6 ROVR availability in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) during 2026, and its X4 ROVR targets small to mid-sized commercial spaces. On [14 April 2026, Tennant and Brain Corp agreed](https://braincorp.com/resources/tennant-company-and-brain-corp-agree-to-accelerate-robotic-cleaning-innovation-advancing-tennants-transformation-into-a-robotics-and-technology-leader) a 3-year exclusivity extension, plans for 10 new products within 24 months and a goal of a USD 250 million autonomous business by 2028. Brain Corp reports more than 50,000 BrainOS robots and over 25 million autonomous hours.

### New floor space adds 0.8 points

Distribution centres and factories add square footage every year, and each new building needs a ride-on scrubber fleet from day one. Logistics floors are large, flat and open, the ideal case for a T16-class rider or robot. Douglas Insights counts warehousing and logistics at 31.4% of 2025 ride-on scrubber value, the largest end user, and credits new space with 0.8 points of growth. The three contributions, 1.5, 1.3 and 0.8 points, add to the 3.6% volume leg. Readers modelling the charging side of these battery fleets can use our [Industrial Battery Chargers Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industrial-battery-chargers-market/).

## Which headwinds cut Tennant's ride-on scrubber volume by 8.7% in 2025?

Three restraints remove about 2.0 points from ride-on scrubber unit growth: facility budget pullbacks take 1.0 point, tariffs and price pass-through take 0.6 points, and robot adoption friction takes 0.4 points. Without them, units would grow near 5.6% a year.

Budget pullbacks remove 1.0 point. Tennant reported 2025 net sales of USD 1.20 billion in [its results of 23 February 2026](https://investors.tennantco.com/news/news-details/2026/Tennant-Company-Reports-2025-Fourth-Quarter-and-Full-Year-Results/default.aspx), with volume down 8.7% and Americas sales down 10.9% to USD 792.0 million, citing softer North American demand for industrial equipment. Kärcher said the overall cleaning market declined in 2025 because commercial customers cut purchases. A ride-on scrubber is a capital item that a facility manager can defer for a year by repairing the old one.

Tariffs remove 0.6 points. Tennant's filing discusses tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which raise the landed cost of motors, batteries and electronics. Price rises of that kind slow replacement cycles for every ride-on scrubber model. Robot friction removes 0.4 points: a robotic scrubber needs mapping, Wi-Fi and a trained site lead, and Brain Corp reports 2023 floor scrubber use of 2.3 million hours, small against total cleaning hours.

## How much does a ride-on scrubber cost, from a compact rider to an USD 82,302 sweeper-scrubber?

A ride-on scrubber sold for an average USD 27,350 in 2025, and Douglas Insights expects USD 33,668 by 2035 as robots and lithium-ion packs lift the mix. Realised bands run from about USD 12,000 for a compact rider to above USD 80,000 for a heavy sweeper-scrubber.

| Ride-on scrubber tier | Typical buyer | Realised price | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Compact ride-on scrubber-dryer | Retail and commercial buildings | USD 12,000 to 22,000 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Mid-size and large ride-on scrubber-dryer | Warehouses and plants | USD 25,000 to 55,000 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Autonomous robotic scrubber | Retail chains, airports, logistics | USD 40,000 to 75,000 | Douglas Insights estimate |
| Ride-on sweeper-scrubber | Manufacturing plants, municipalities | USD 76,343 to 82,302 | City purchase records, 2021 and 2024 |

The top band comes from public purchase records. The [City of Geneva, Illinois, approved a Tennant M20 sweeper-scrubber](https://www.geneva.il.us/Archive.aspx?ADID=3586) at a machine price of USD 82,302 plus USD 1,192.26 freight, quoted in October 2024, while Des Moines paid USD 76,343.17 for a Tennant MM30 in August 2021. Public Services and Procurement Canada awarded Tennant CAD 171,071.54 for one ride-on floor cleaning machine with maintenance to 2029.

Walk-behind machines set the floor. Durham County Council budgeted £300,000 for more than 50 walk-behind Tennant scrubbers, under £6,000 each, so a compact rider costs two to four times as much. Hire is the other route: Leeds City Council awarded 28,236 for long-term hire of a Tennant T16 ride-on scrubber dryer, with the notice giving no currency. Price per machine rises 2.1% a year in our base case.

## Which companies sell the most ride-on scrubbers, and how far ahead is Tennant?

Douglas Insights estimates Tennant leads with about 19.3% of 2025 ride-on scrubber value, and the top three, adding Nilfisk and Kärcher, hold about 41.6%. No maker reports ride-on revenue separately, so every share is modelled from group sales.

Tennant's share rests on attributing about 30% of its USD 1.20 billion 2025 sales to new ride-on machines, around USD 361 million, plus the largest robotic installed base: 10,000 robots by 3 June 2025. Nilfisk reported 2025 revenue of EUR 996.3 million, with its Professional Business at EUR 558.1 million and floorcare driving growth in EMEA and Asia Pacific; we put it at 11.4%. [Kärcher posted record 2025 sales](https://s1.kaercher-media.com/media/file/287474/press-release-annual-review-2025.pdf) of EUR 3.483 billion and launched the KIRA B 200 autonomous floor cleaner; we put its ride-on share at 10.9%.

| Company | Ride-on scrubber position built on | Disclosed figure |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tennant Company | T-series riders, AMR line, Brain Corp exclusivity | USD 1.20 billion 2025 net sales |
| Nilfisk | Professional floorcare in EMEA and Asia Pacific | EUR 558.1 million Professional Business |
| Kärcher | Broad professional range, KIRA B 200 robot | EUR 3.483 billion 2025 sales |
| Possehl (Hako, Minuteman, PowerBoss) | Cleaning technology division brands | EUR 568 million 2024 revenue |
| Brain Corp | BrainOS autonomy software for OEM scrubbers | More than 50,000 robots |
| Gausium | Scrubber 50 and Scrubber 75 robots | 9,400 customers in 70 countries |
| Avidbots | Neo autonomous scrubber | Robots in 19 countries by 2019 |

Possehl's cleaning technology division, home of Hako, Minuteman and PowerBoss, had EUR 568 million of 2024 revenue and 2,455 staff; Douglas Insights gives it 7.2% of ride-on scrubber value. Brain Corp sells no machine of its own but supplies the brain inside Tennant robots. Gausium lists more than 9,400 customers in more than 70 countries and regions, and Avidbots had Neo robots cleaning in 19 countries by 2019.

## Where do ride-on scrubber sales grow fastest outside North America's big-box floors?

North America leads ride-on scrubber spending with USD 680.9 million in 2025, a 36.4% share, because big-box retail and distribution centres run large fleets. Asia Pacific grows fastest, at 7.6% a year, from USD 434.0 million to USD 902.8 million by 2035.

North America reaches USD 1.13 billion by 2035 at 5.2% a year; robotic ride-on scrubbers in retail chains add value even while machine counts stay flat. Europe holds USD 593.0 million and grows 5.0% a year to USD 965.9 million, where Tennant's EMEA sales rose 5.1% in 2025 to USD 334.6 million. Asia Pacific starts at USD 434.0 million and leads growth at 7.6%, as new manufacturing and logistics floors in China, India and Southeast Asia are fitted out from scratch.

Latin America is the wildcard at USD 91.7 million, growing 6.3% a year to USD 168.9 million if nearshored factories in Mexico buy ride-on scrubbers at North American specifications. Middle East and Africa is the smallest region at USD 71.1 million, rising 4.64% a year to USD 111.9 million, led by airports and malls in the Gulf.

## Which ride-on scrubber buyers spend most: warehouses, factories, retailers or airports?

Warehousing and logistics spend the most on ride-on scrubbers, USD 587.4 million or 31.4% of 2025 value, Douglas Insights calculates. Manufacturing plants follow at 27.3%, retail and commercial buildings at 26.8% and airports and transit hubs at 14.5%.

Manufacturing plants spend USD 510.7 million, much of it on sweeper-scrubbers that handle swarf, dust and oil. Retail and commercial buildings account for USD 501.3 million and are where robots spread first, since store aisles repeat the same route every night. Airports and transit hubs spend USD 271.3 million; long terminal concourses suit a quiet battery rider that works around passengers. The same open floors that suit a ride-on scrubber also host the goods-to-person systems in our [Warehouse Automation Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/warehouse-automation-market/).

## Is lithium-ion replacing lead-acid and LPG in ride-on scrubber fleets?

Lead-acid battery machines still carry 52.6% of 2025 ride-on scrubber value, USD 984.0 million, but lithium-ion battery machines already hold 29.1%. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and diesel units make up the remaining 18.3%, mostly outdoor sweeper-scrubbers.

Lithium-ion wins on opportunity charging: a ride-on scrubber can top up at breaks without the watering and long cycles lead-acid needs, which matters most for robots that run several shifts. LPG survives in heavy sweeper-scrubbers such as the M20 bought by Geneva in its LPG configuration. Indoor air rules and corporate emissions targets push buyers toward battery power, and Douglas Insights expects lithium-ion to pass lead-acid in ride-on scrubber value before 2035.

## Which machinery rules will autonomous ride-on scrubbers face from 20 January 2027?

From 20 January 2027, every ride-on scrubber sold in the European Union (EU) must meet Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, which replaces Directive 2006/42/EC. The new regulation explicitly targets autonomous mobile machinery and AI-based safety functions, which covers robotic scrubbers.

The regulation was adopted on 14 June 2023, and [the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA)](https://osha.europa.eu/en/legislation/directive/regulation-20231230eu-machinery) notes that it applies from 20 January 2027 to better cover new technologies such as autonomous mobile machinery. For ride-on scrubber makers the cost is documentation and testing: risk assessments must now address software that learns, and robots must show safe behaviour around people in open floors.

Ride-on machines in the United States answer to workplace safety rules and to customer site policies on battery charging and LPG storage, while tariffs set landed costs. Douglas Insights expects the EU rule to favour makers with large robot fleets, because their field data shortens the safety case for each new ride-on scrubber model.

## How many ride-on scrubbers will clean without an operator by 2035?

Douglas Insights models about 4,600 autonomous robotic scrubbers sold in 2025, near 6.7% of the 68,400 ride-on scrubber units. By 2035 robots carry 31.1% of value, as the autonomous segment grows 15.6% a year.

Tennant's own plan sets the pace. Its USD 250 million autonomous target for 2028 equals 67.6% of the USD 369.8 million our model gives the whole autonomous ride-on scrubber segment that year, so either Tennant takes a commanding share of robots or the segment grows faster than our base case. Brain Corp says global deployments rose 68% in the first half of 2026. Operators still matter: mid-size riders remain the default where floors are cluttered, wet or changing daily.

## Ride-on scrubber scenarios to 2035: what if robot conversion stalls or labour costs jump?

In the base case ride-on scrubber revenue reaches USD 3.28 billion in 2035. A slower case lands at USD 2.65 billion, a 3.53% CAGR, and a faster case at USD 4.09 billion, an 8.14% CAGR, a spread of USD 1.44 billion.

The slower case runs units at 2.1% and price at 1.4%: equipment budgets stay as tight as in 2025, when Tennant volume fell 8.7%, tariffs persist and robot programmes stall at pilot sites. The faster case runs units at 5.4% and price at 2.6%: labour shortages deepen, the 10 new products from the April 2026 Tennant and Brain Corp deal land on time, and the pace of the 10,000th robot milestone of 3 June 2025 doubles.

One extra point of yearly unit growth adds about USD 330.7 million to the 2035 ride-on scrubber total; one point less removes about USD 303.2 million. Outside forecasts we read for the wider floor scrubber category span 5.48% to 7.6% a year, and our 5.78% sits in the lower part of that band because walk-behind units are excluded.

## Douglas Exclusive: the Ride-On Scrubber Autonomy Register

The Ride-On Scrubber Autonomy Register is a Douglas Insights model built from 16 named inputs in 7 primary documents; it is our own compilation, not an official register. It lists 8 autonomous scrubber platforms by maker, launch year and the scale each maker discloses.

| Platform | Maker | Year in sources | Disclosed detail |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| T7AMR | Tennant | 2018 | First Tennant AMR, large commercial spaces |
| T380AMR | Tennant | 2020 | Compact model for narrow spaces |
| T16AMR | Tennant | 2021 | Logistics and manufacturing rider |
| X4 ROVR | Tennant with Brain Corp | 2024 | USD 32 million Brain Corp investment |
| X6 ROVR | Tennant with Brain Corp | 2025 | Up to 75,000 square feet per cycle |
| KIRA B 200 | Kärcher | 2025 | Interacts with other robots |
| Scrubber 75 | Gausium | Listed 2026 | 9,400 customers, 70 countries |
| Neo | Avidbots | 2019 | Cleaning in 19 countries |

The register counts disclosed platforms, not units sold. Its inputs are the 8 platform records plus Tennant's 10,000 robots, its USD 250 million target, its 10 planned products, Brain Corp's 50,000 robots, 25 million hours and 2.3 million scrubber hours, and Gausium's customer and country counts. The finding: 5 of the 8 ride-on scrubber platforms, or 62.5%, come from Tennant, and only Tennant and Brain Corp disclose a cumulative robot count.

## What receipts and cross-checks sit under the ride-on scrubber model?

Our model multiplies 68,400 ride-on scrubber units by USD 27,350, giving USD 1.87 billion in 2025. Units then grow 3.6% a year to 97,421 machines and price 2.1% to USD 33,668, giving USD 3.28 billion in 2035.

The model covers 5 regions, 4 product segments, 4 end-user groups and 3 power types, and uses 23 sourced data points. Regional values sum exactly to the global total in 2025 and 2035; segment values sum exactly in 2025 and to within 0.09% in 2035. The 2026 value is USD 1.98 billion.

Two cross-checks were run. Published estimates of the whole floor scrubber category for 2025 imply about USD 1.99 billion for ride-on and robotic machines once the walk-behind share is removed; our USD 1.87 billion is 6.0% lower. A top-down check from the four largest makers' disclosed sales, with our attributed ride-on shares, puts 48.8% of value with named groups, consistent with a long tail of regional builders.
