- 16.7 million user-years at USD 361 each make up the 2025 base; user-years grow 0.95% a year and revenue per user-year 1.90%.
- Oral contraceptive pills hold 59.0% of value, while patches and vaginal rings grow fastest at 5.50% a year.
- U.S. Nexplanon sales fell 21.2% in the first nine months of 2026 after the five-year label and REMS, while Bayer's Mirena family grew 12.5% in 2025.
- Hormonal intrauterine systems hold 20.7% of 2025 value but supply 32.4% of the value added to 2035; implants supply 1.6%.

Organon's U.S. sales of Nexplanon, the only contraceptive implant sold in the United States, fell 21.2% to USD 383 million in the first nine months of 2026, from USD 486 million a year earlier, its [quarterly report filed with the SEC](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001821825/000182182526000004/ogn-20260930.htm) shows, even though the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had extended the rod's licensed use from three to five years on 16 January 2026 and attached a new Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS), [Organon's announcement](https://www.organon.com/news/organon-announces-us-food-and-drug-administration-approval-of-supplemental-new-drug-application-extending-duration-of-use-of-nexplanon-etonogestrel-implant-68-mg-radiopaque/) states. The U.S. hormonal contraceptive market covers manufacturer revenue from prescription and nonprescription medicines that prevent pregnancy with a progestin, alone or with an estrogen: oral pills, hormonal intrauterine systems (IUS), subdermal implants, injectables, and patches and vaginal rings. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 6.03 billion in 2025, from 16.7 million user-years x USD 361 per user-year, and at USD 8.00 billion in 2035, a revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 2.87%. The study is the U.S. share of the North America row in our worldwide [Hormonal Contraceptive Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/hormonal-contraceptive-market/) model, sits beside our [U.S. Pharmaceutical Drug Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/u-s-pharmaceutical-drug-market/) and [Pediatric and Maternity Care Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/pediatric-and-maternity-care-market/) reports in our [women's health therapeutics coverage](https://www.douglasinsights.com/industry/healthcare/pharmaceuticals/womens-health-therapeutics/), and every figure follows the Douglas Insights [research methodology](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/).

## Which birth control method earns the most in the U.S.: the pill, the hormonal IUD or the implant?

The hormonal contraceptive pill earns the most: 59.0% of 2025 value, or USD 3.56 billion, on about 8.5 million user-years. Hormonal intrauterine systems follow with 20.7%, USD 1.25 billion, while patches and vaginal rings grow fastest at 5.50% a year.

| Method | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Oral contraceptive pills | 59.0% | USD 3.56 billion | 2.55% | USD 4.57 billion |
| Hormonal intrauterine systems | 20.7% | USD 1.25 billion | 4.10% | USD 1.86 billion |
| Subdermal implants | 10.1% | USD 610 million | 0.50% | USD 641 million |
| Injectable contraceptives | 5.6% | USD 335 million | 1.00% | USD 370 million |
| Patches and vaginal rings | 4.7% | USD 283 million | 5.50% | USD 483 million |

Oral contraceptive pills, USD 3.56 billion, grow 2.55% a year to USD 4.57 billion. The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) found that 11.4% of the 74.9 million U.S. females aged 15 to 49 used the pill in 2022 and 2023, about 8.5 million women, in its [data brief of August 2025](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db539.htm). Most of those packs are generics, but branded progestin-only and estetrol pills, such as Mayne Pharma's NEXTSTELLIS, lift the average revenue per pill user-year to about USD 418, a Douglas Insights estimate.

Hormonal intrauterine systems, USD 1.25 billion, grow 4.10% a year to USD 1.86 billion, the second-fastest rate. The same survey put long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC), meaning intrauterine devices and implants, at 10.5% of females aged 15 to 49, about 7.9 million women; Douglas Insights places about 4.6 million of them on a levonorgestrel system and 1.9 million on an implant, with the rest on copper devices outside this study. Bayer said sales of its Mirena family rose 12.5% on a currency- and portfolio-adjusted basis in 2025, driven by higher volumes in the United States, in its [full-year release of 4 March 2026](https://www.bayer.com/media/en-us/bayer-delivers-upgraded-2025-ambition-projects-solid-2026-focused-on-strategic-priorities/).

Subdermal implants equal Organon's filed U.S. Nexplanon sales, USD 610 million in 2025, and grow only 0.50% a year to USD 641 million because 2026 opens with a drop of more than a fifth. Injectable contraceptives, USD 335 million, grow 1.00% after the Depo-Provera label gained a meningioma warning. Patches and vaginal rings, USD 283 million, grow fastest, 5.50% a year to USD 483 million, as Viatris launches Gwyn Lo. Method values for 2035 sum to USD 7.93 billion, 0.89% below the headline, a Douglas Insights estimate.

## How do pharmacies, clinics, Title X programmes and nonprescription shelves split contraceptive sales?

Retail and mail-order pharmacies carry the most value, about 55.5% of 2025 hormonal contraceptive sales or USD 3.35 billion, Douglas Insights estimates. Nonprescription and online sales are the smallest channel, USD 241 million, but grow fastest at 7.50% a year.

| Channel | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Retail and mail-order pharmacies | 55.5% | USD 3.35 billion | 2.40% | USD 4.24 billion |
| Clinic-administered (buy-and-bill) | 31.0% | USD 1.87 billion | 3.60% | USD 2.66 billion |
| Public family planning programmes | 9.5% | USD 573 million | 0.80% | USD 620 million |
| Nonprescription and online | 4.0% | USD 241 million | 7.50% | USD 497 million |

Retail and mail-order pharmacies, USD 3.35 billion, dispense most prescription pills, rings and patches, usually in 3-month or 12-month supplies, and grow 2.40% a year. Clinic-administered sales, USD 1.87 billion, cover the intrauterine systems, implants and clinician-given injections that a practice buys and bills; this channel grows 3.60% because every Nexplanon rod must now pass through a certified REMS pharmacy to a certified inserter. Public family planning programmes, USD 573 million, grow only 0.80% a year: the Title X programme served 2.8 million people in 2023, and its funding was partly withheld in 2025, [KFF (formerly the Kaiser Family Foundation) reported on 16 March 2026](https://www.kff.org/quick-insights/navigating-uncertainty-the-latest-challenge-to-the-title-x-family-planning-safety-net/). Nonprescription and online sales, USD 241 million, include Perrigo's Opill and telehealth-dispensed pills; channel values for 2035 sum to USD 8.02 billion, within 0.25% of the headline.

## Why do longer labels, nonprescription pills and new formats lift U.S. contraceptive user-years?

Hormonal contraceptive user-years rise 0.95% a year, from 16.7 million in 2025 to about 18.4 million in 2035. Four drivers add 1.65 points of gross volume growth before restraints take 0.70 points away.

### Nonprescription and telehealth access: 0.55 points

Shelf and online access adds 0.55 points, the largest driver. The FDA approved Opill, a 0.075 mg norgestrel tablet, as the first U.S. nonprescription daily oral contraceptive on 13 July 2023, [the FDA said](https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-approves-first-nonprescription-daily-oral-contraceptive), and by 2025 the launch had passed its stocking phase: Perrigo told investors on 26 February 2026 that the absence of the prior-year Opill launch stocking benefit cut its company-wide organic growth by 0.3 points, its [fiscal 2025 results](https://investor.perrigo.com/2026-02-26-Perrigo-Reports-Fourth-Quarter-and-Fiscal-Year-2025-Financial-Results-From-Continuing-Operations) show. Douglas Insights reads that as steady replenishment rather than a fading product, and adds about 0.6 million user-years from shelf and online channels by 2035.

### Women who are not yet using a method: 0.45 points

Unmet need adds 0.45 points. Only 54.3% of U.S. females aged 15 to 49 used any contraception in 2022 and 2023, [NCHS reports](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db539.htm), so about 34.2 million were not using a method, many of them not at risk of pregnancy. Among women who had used a method, 18.1% changed or stopped it within 12 months and 42.8% of them said they did not like the method, Viatris noted from a 2023 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) survey in its [release of 29 July 2026](https://viatris.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/viatris-receives-us-fda-approval-gwyn-lotm-once-weekly). Each 1% of the non-user pool brought onto a hormonal method adds about 0.34 million user-years, a Douglas Insights calculation.

### Longer licensed durations: 0.35 points

Longer labels add 0.35 points. The 16 January 2026 approval lets one Nexplanon rod cover up to five years, and the extension study of 399 women aged 18 to 35 recorded no pregnancies in years 4 and 5, a Pearl Index of 0.0, [Organon reports](https://www.organon.com/news/organon-announces-us-food-and-drug-administration-approval-of-supplemental-new-drug-application-extending-duration-of-use-of-nexplanon-etonogestrel-implant-68-mg-radiopaque/). A woman who keeps a rod for five years instead of three stays inside the hormonal count for two more years without a new decision, which is why Douglas Insights credits longer labels with retained user-years even while the implant segment's revenue stays flat.

### New weekly and monthly formats: 0.30 points

New formats add the last 0.30 points. Gwyn Lo delivers 220 mcg of norelgestromin and 20 mcg of ethinyl estradiol a day from a once-weekly patch, with a Pearl Index of 4.14 in its phase 3 study, and Viatris expects commercial availability later in 2026. Summed, 0.55 + 0.45 + 0.35 + 0.30 = 1.65 points of gross volume growth, a Douglas Insights estimate; multiplying the net volume leg, 1.0095, by the price leg, 1.0190, gives the 2.87% revenue rate.

## What holds back U.S. contraceptive volume: Medicaid exclusions, Title X cuts or the Depo-Provera label?

Three restraints remove 0.70 points from hormonal contraceptive volume growth: public funding limits take 0.35 points, safety labelling on injectables takes 0.15 points, and switching to copper and permanent methods takes 0.20 points.

Public funding is the largest drag. Section 71113 of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed on 4 July 2025, bars federal Medicaid payments for one year to certain nonprofit providers that perform abortions and received more than USD 800,000 of Medicaid funds in 2023, the [enacted text](https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1/text) sets out, and Planned Parenthood clinics have since lost federal Medicaid funding, [KFF reports](https://www.kff.org/quick-insights/navigating-uncertainty-the-latest-challenge-to-the-title-x-family-planning-safety-net/). The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) also withheld USD 65.8 million of year-four funding from 16 of the 86 Title X grants on 1 April 2025, restoring it only in December 2025. These clinics insert many implants and intrauterine systems, which is one reason Organon blamed "policy-related access restrictions" for lower U.S. Nexplanon demand in its [results of 12 February 2026](https://www.organon.com/news/organon-reports-results-for-the-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-ended-december-31-2025/).

The Depo-Provera label takes 0.15 points. The FDA approved a label change on 13 December 2025 adding information on meningioma risk to Depo-Provera CI and Depo-SubQ Provera 104, [NBC News reported](https://www.nbcnews.com/health/womens-health/fda-approves-label-change-depo-provera-adding-brain-tumor-warning-rcna249568), while more than 1,000 women were suing Pfizer over the risk. Switching away from hormones takes 0.20 points: Sebela Women's Health won FDA approval for Miudella, the first new hormone-free copper intrauterine system in the United States in more than 40 years, in February 2025, [its release](https://www.biospace.com/press-releases/fda-approves-miudella-the-first-hormone-free-copper-intrauterine-system-ius-in-the-u-s-in-over-40-years-from-sebela-womens-health-inc) states, and female sterilization already covers 11.5% of women aged 15 to 49, a larger share than the pill.

## Which U.S. census region leads contraceptive sales: South, West, Midwest or Northeast?

The South leads with USD 2.29 billion or 38.0% of 2025 hormonal contraceptive value, Douglas Insights estimates, but the West grows fastest, 3.15% a year to USD 2.06 billion by 2035, on pharmacist prescribing and telehealth, a Douglas Insights estimate.

| Census region | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| South | USD 2.29 billion | 38.0% | USD 2.35 billion | 2.75% | USD 3.00 billion |
| West | USD 1.51 billion | 25.0% | USD 1.55 billion | 3.15% | USD 2.06 billion |
| Midwest | USD 1.24 billion | 20.5% | USD 1.27 billion | 2.55% | USD 1.59 billion |
| Northeast | USD 995 million | 16.5% | USD 1.02 billion | 3.05% | USD 1.34 billion |

The South holds the most women of reproductive age, so it leads on value, but Douglas Insights grows it at 2.75% a year, below the national 2.87%, because several of its states did not expand Medicaid and its public clinics depend most on the Title X and Medicaid funds restricted in 2025. The West, USD 1.51 billion, grows 3.15% on pharmacist prescribing of hormonal contraception and the largest telehealth user base, and the Northeast, USD 995 million, grows 3.05% on dense clinic networks and high insurance coverage, a Douglas Insights estimate.

The Midwest, USD 1.24 billion, grows 2.55%, the slowest rate, on a flat population of women aged 15 to 49 and a higher share of clinic-based implants exposed to the Nexplanon decline. Region values for 2035 sum to USD 7.99 billion, 0.09% below the headline; in the data table the row labelled Global holds the national total.

## Which companies supply U.S. hormonal contraceptives: Bayer, Organon, Pfizer or generic makers?

Bayer leads with about 17.6% of 2025 hormonal contraceptive value from its Mirena, Kyleena and Skyla intrauterine systems, a Douglas Insights estimate. Organon follows with about 10.6%, anchored on USD 610 million of filed U.S. Nexplanon sales.

| Company | Main U.S. hormonal products | Disclosed figure | Estimated share 2025 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bayer | Mirena, Kyleena, Skyla intrauterine systems | Mirena family up 12.5% in 2025 (adjusted) | 17.6% |
| Organon | Nexplanon implant, NuvaRing | U.S. Nexplanon USD 610 million in 2025 (filed) | 10.6% |
| Pfizer | Depo-Provera CI, Depo-SubQ Provera 104 | Not disclosed by product | 3.5% |
| Mayne Pharma | NEXTSTELLIS pill, ANNOVERA ring | USD 70.9 million combined, year to June 2026 | 1.2% |
| Perrigo | Opill nonprescription pill | Not disclosed by product | 0.5% |
| Viatris and generic makers | Generic pills, patches and rings; Gwyn Lo from 2026 | Not disclosed by product | 66.6% |

Organon's U.S. Nexplanon sales fell 9% to USD 610 million in 2025, from USD 672 million, and fourth-quarter U.S. sales fell to USD 125 million from USD 175 million, including about USD 17 million from ending certain wholesaler sales practices, its [full-year release](https://www.organon.com/news/organon-reports-results-for-the-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-ended-december-31-2025/) states. U.S. third-quarter 2026 sales were USD 127 million against USD 146 million, a 13.0% fall, and NuvaRing's U.S. sales were USD 20 million in the nine months, per the [10-Q](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/0001821825/000182182526000004/ogn-20260930.htm). Organon also flags the expiry of the Nexplanon rod patents in 2027.

Mayne Pharma sold USD 45.2 million of NEXTSTELLIS, up 6%, and USD 25.7 million of ANNOVERA, down 13%, in the year to 30 June 2026, its [results of 27 August 2026](https://announcements.asx.com.au/asxpdf/20260827/pdf/0739cyd4kqt28m.pdf) show. Bayer does not split Mirena sales by country in its release, so its share is a Douglas Insights estimate. The pattern is concentration in devices and fragmentation in pills: two companies earn most long-acting revenue, while generic makers share about two thirds of the market.

## How much does a year of hormonal contraception cost, from a generic pill to an implant?

A hormonal contraceptive user-year earned USD 361 on average in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates. Revenue per user-year ranges from about USD 271 for a hormonal intrauterine system to about USD 472 for a patch or ring.

| Method | User-years 2025 | Value 2025 | Revenue per user-year |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Blended, all hormonal methods | 16.7 million | USD 6.03 billion | USD 361 |
| Oral contraceptive pills | 8.5 million | USD 3.56 billion | About USD 418 |
| Hormonal intrauterine systems | 4.6 million | USD 1.25 billion | About USD 271 |
| Subdermal implants | 1.9 million | USD 610 million | About USD 321 |
| Injectable contraceptives | 1.1 million | USD 335 million | About USD 305 |
| Patches and vaginal rings | 0.6 million | USD 283 million | About USD 472 |

Revenue per user-year rises 1.90% a year, from USD 361 to about USD 436 in 2035, and most of that is mix: women moving from generic pills to branded pills, weekly patches and longer-acting devices lift the average. Long-acting methods look cheap per year because one insertion is spread across 5 or more years, so a five-year Nexplanon label cuts revenue per implant user-year even as it holds users longer.

The 2027 rod patent expiry, which Organon flags in its [2025 results](https://www.organon.com/news/organon-reports-results-for-the-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-ended-december-31-2025/), is the largest price risk. A generic implant would lift units but could cut the implant price per user-year by a third or more, a Douglas Insights assumption carried in the slower case. At the other end, branded estetrol and progestin-only pills keep the pill average above USD 400, because a branded pack can cost several times a generic one.

## Which rules shape access to hormonal birth control: the Nexplanon REMS, Medicaid exclusions or labelling?

Three rule sets shape hormonal contraceptive access: the Nexplanon REMS from 23 February 2026, the one-year Medicaid exclusion under Section 71113 from July 2025, and new FDA labels for Depo-Provera and Nexplanon.

The REMS requires every clinician to enrol and finish insertion and removal training before a first insertion, requires pharmacies to be certified and to dispense only to certified providers, and limits wholesalers to certified buyers; providers had six months from 23 February 2026 to enrol, [Organon states](https://www.organon.com/news/organon-announces-us-food-and-drug-administration-approval-of-supplemental-new-drug-application-extending-duration-of-use-of-nexplanon-etonogestrel-implant-68-mg-radiopaque/). Douglas Insights treats the enrolment deadline of August 2026 as one cause of the 13.0% third-quarter fall.

Federal funding rules move in the other direction. HHS issued new Title X continuation guidance on 13 March 2026 that removed the requirement to follow Quality Family Planning standards, and the program's USD 286 million was kept in the 2026 HHS appropriation, [KFF reports](https://www.kff.org/quick-insights/navigating-uncertainty-the-latest-challenge-to-the-title-x-family-planning-safety-net/). For prescription status, only Opill is approved for nonprescription daily use, so every other pill, patch, ring, injection and device still needs a prescriber, and the [FDA](https://www.fda.gov/) still reviews each new format, such as Gwyn Lo, through the 505(b)(2) pathway.

## What if implant access recovers after the REMS: how large is the U.S. market in 2035?

The U.S. hormonal contraceptive market ends 2035 between USD 6.93 billion and USD 9.13 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 8.00 billion. Clinic access for long-acting methods and generic implant pricing set most of the spread.

| Case | User-year leg | Price per user-year leg | 2035 value |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Slower | 0.30% | 1.10% | USD 6.93 billion |
| Base case | 0.95% | 1.90% | USD 8.00 billion |
| Faster | 1.65% | 2.55% | USD 9.13 billion |

In the slower case the Medicaid exclusion is renewed beyond one year, Title X clinics keep closing, and generic rods arrive after 2027 at deep discounts. In the faster case REMS-certified inserters return to 2024 volumes, nonprescription pills reach more retail and telehealth buyers, and weekly patches win users who dislike daily pills. One extra point of yearly growth in the user-year leg adds about USD 829 million to 2035 value.

The base case starts at USD 6.20 billion in 2026, 2.87% above 2025. Organon's 21.2% nine-month Nexplanon fall runs well below that rate, but implants are only 10.1% of value, and Bayer's 12.5% Mirena growth in 2025 shows the other long-acting method moving the other way.

## Douglas Exclusive: the U.S. Contraceptive Access Ledger

The U.S. Contraceptive Access Ledger is a Douglas Insights model built from 13 dated sources: 7 company releases and filings, 3 federal law, survey and FDA records, 2 health policy reports and 1 news report.

| Date | Input | What it moves |
| --- | --- | --- |
| February 2025 | FDA approves Miudella copper intrauterine system | Switching away from hormones |
| 1 April 2025 | HHS withholds USD 65.8 million from 16 of 86 Title X grants | Public programme channel |
| 4 July 2025 | Section 71113 one-year Medicaid exclusion signed | Clinic access |
| August 2025 | NCHS: 54.3% use contraception; pill 11.4%, LARC 10.5% | User-year base |
| 13 December 2025 | Depo-Provera meningioma label change | Injectable volume |
| 16 January 2026 | Nexplanon five-year label and REMS | Implant duration and access |
| 12 February 2026 | Organon: U.S. Nexplanon USD 610 million, down 9% | Implant value |
| 26 February 2026 | Perrigo: Opill stocking benefit absent in 2025 | Nonprescription channel |
| 4 March 2026 | Bayer: Mirena family up 12.5% on U.S. volume | Intrauterine system value |
| 16 March 2026 | KFF: Title X funds restored in December 2025, new guidance | Public programme channel |
| 29 July 2026 | Viatris announces FDA approval of Gwyn Lo weekly patch | Patch and ring growth |
| 27 August 2026 | Mayne Pharma: NEXTSTELLIS USD 45.2 million, ANNOVERA USD 25.7 million | Branded pill and ring value |
| October 2026 | Organon 10-Q: U.S. Nexplanon USD 383 million in nine months, down 21.2% | Implant momentum |

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: long-acting hormonal contraceptive methods are splitting. Hormonal intrauterine systems hold 20.7% of 2025 value but supply 32.4% of the value added to 2035, while implants, at 10.1% of today's market, supply only 1.6%. Pills supply 53.6% of growth and patches and rings 10.5%, so short-acting methods still deliver almost two thirds of the market's added value even as policy debates focus on long-acting devices.

The ledger also shows where access policy bites. Of the 13 inputs, 5 restrict or complicate clinic access, and the method most tied to clinics lost USD 103 million of U.S. sales in nine months of 2026, a Douglas Insights calculation from Organon's filing. Every 100,000 implant users who move instead to a branded pill at about USD 418 a year would add about USD 42 million of yearly value, so lost implant access does not remove demand from the market; it moves it to pharmacies.

## How does the methodology turn 16.7 million user-years into USD 6.03 billion?

Our methodology multiplies 16.7 million hormonal contraceptive user-years in 2025 by USD 361 of manufacturer revenue per user-year to reach USD 6.03 billion. The user-year count is anchored on the NCHS 2022 to 2023 survey of 74.9 million females.

The model covers 4 census regions, 5 methods and 4 channels, and uses 56 data points, 17 sourced and 39 modelled. Arithmetic: 16.7 million x USD 360.95 = USD 6.03 billion; USD 6.03 billion x (1.0095 x 1.0190)^10 = USD 8.00 billion. User-years reach about 16.9 million in 2026 and 18.4 million in 2035, and revenue per user-year about USD 368 in 2026 and USD 436 in 2035.

Two cross-checks agree. First, the U.S. value is 91.5% of the North America row of our worldwide model, USD 6.59 billion in 2025, USD 6.78 billion in 2026 and USD 8.74 billion in 2035, and we keep that row's 2.87% rate; Canada holds the other 8.5% with about a tenth of the region's women and lower branded prices. Second, the survey gives 8.5 million pill users, 7.9 million LARC users and 1.7 million users of injectables, rings or patches, so our 16.7 million hormonal user-years leave about 1.4 million women on copper devices. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our [editorial standards](https://www.douglasinsights.com/research-methodology/) explain.

## What counts in the U.S. hormonal contraceptive study, and what is excluded?

This study counts manufacturer revenue from hormonal contraceptives sold or administered in the United States. Copper intrauterine devices, condoms, spermicides, emergency contraception and sterilization procedures are excluded.

The by-method split covers oral contraceptive pills, hormonal intrauterine systems, subdermal implants, injectable contraceptives, and patches and vaginal rings; the by-channel split covers retail and mail-order pharmacies, clinic-administered buy-and-bill, public family planning programmes, and nonprescription and online sales; the by-region split covers the South, West, Midwest and Northeast. Hormones prescribed for menstrual disorders are sized in our [Amenorrhea Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/amenorrhea-market/) report, and cervical screening equipment used in the same clinics sits in the [Hand-Held Colposcopes Market](https://www.douglasinsights.com/hand-held-colposcopes-market/) study.
