China’s Ministry of Commerce and other departments said on 31 December 2025 that smartwatches and smart bands stay inside the 2026 consumer trade-in programme, with a subsidy of up to 500 yuan on devices priced at 6,000 yuan or less, according to the Shanghai municipal government. That decision keeps the region’s largest wearable market growing. The Asia Pacific smart wearable market covers manufacturer revenue from body-worn connected devices with sensors and their own software: smartwatches, fitness bands and trackers, smart glasses, and smart rings and other wearables, sold in China, Japan, South Korea, India, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand and the rest of Asia Pacific. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 13.2 billion in 2025, from 124.4 million devices at an average USD 106, and at USD 25.2 billion in 2035, a revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 6.70%. The study sits in our smart home and IoT devices coverage and every figure follows the Douglas Insights research methodology.

Which companies sell the most smart wearables in Asia Pacific: Apple, Huawei or Xiaomi?

Apple sells the most smart wearable value in Asia Pacific, about 26.0% of 2025 revenue, USD 3.42 billion, Douglas Insights estimates. With Huawei and Xiaomi, the top three companies hold 56.0%, while Xiaomi leads on band volume.

Company What the position rests on Estimated Asia Pacific share 2025 Estimated value 2025
Apple Apple Watch premium pricing in China, Japan, South Korea and Australia 26.0% USD 3.42 billion
Huawei WATCH, WATCH GT and WATCH FIT ranges; leader in China 20.5% USD 2.70 billion
Xiaomi Smart Band volume and low-priced watches 9.5% USD 1.25 billion
Samsung Electronics Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring in South Korea, India and Southeast Asia 8.5% USD 1.12 billion
Garmin Sports and outdoor watches in Japan, Australia and China 5.0% USD 658.3 million
Honor Watches bundled with phones in China 3.0% USD 395.0 million
Oppo Watches and bands sold with phones 2.5% USD 329.2 million
Zepp Health (Amazfit) Low-priced sports watches 2.5% USD 329.2 million
Meta and EssilorLuxottica Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses 1.5% USD 197.5 million

Apple’s base is visible in its filings: Wearables, Home and Accessories net sales were USD 35.69 billion in fiscal 2025, down 4%, while Greater China sales were USD 64.38 billion, Japan USD 28.70 billion and Rest of Asia Pacific USD 33.70 billion, according to its Form 10-K. Huawei said on 14 June 2025 that its cumulative global wearable shipments had passed 200 million units, per a company release.

Xiaomi grew fastest among the large companies. Its IoT and lifestyle revenue rose 18.3% to RMB 123.2 billion in 2025, and wearables revenue rose 30.7% on higher shipments and prices of smart bands and smartwatches in mainland China, in its annual results filed with the Hong Kong exchange on 24 March 2026. Garmin reported fitness segment revenue up 33% to USD 2.36 billion and Asia Pacific revenue up 12% to USD 1.05 billion for 2025 on 18 February 2026. Garmin’s smart wearable growth shows premium sports buyers holding up.

Which Asia Pacific smart wearable segment earns most: smartwatches, bands, glasses or rings?

Smartwatches earn most, 72.0% of 2025 Asia Pacific smart wearable value, USD 9.48 billion, because each sells for several times the price of a band. Smart glasses grow fastest, 19.50% a year.

Product Share 2025 Value 2025 CAGR 2026-2035 Value 2035
Smartwatches 72.0% USD 9.48 billion 3.85% USD 13.8 billion
Fitness bands and trackers 14.5% USD 1.91 billion 3.00% USD 2.57 billion
Smart glasses 7.5% USD 987.5 million 19.50% USD 5.86 billion
Smart rings and other wearables 6.0% USD 790.0 million 14.00% USD 2.93 billion

Smartwatches lead because Apple, Huawei and Samsung sell them at USD 200 to USD 800, and they carry the health sensors buyers now ask for. Their value grows 3.85% a year to USD 13.8 billion, slowed by longer replacement cycles. Fitness bands and trackers, worth USD 1.91 billion, are the entry smart wearable in India, Indonesia and Vietnam and grow 3.00% a year as Xiaomi lifts band prices with larger screens.

Smart glasses hold USD 987.5 million and grow 19.50% a year to USD 5.86 billion as camera and AI assistant glasses reach China, Japan, South Korea and India; Ray-Ban Meta glasses went on sale in India from 19 May 2025, Business Today reported. Smart rings and other wearables, including smart clothing and health patches, hold USD 790.0 million and grow 14.00% a year to USD 2.93 billion. Payment chips inside these devices are sized in our NFC Secure Element Market report.

Why are Asia Pacific smart wearable shipments growing 4.20% a year?

Asia Pacific smart wearable shipments grow 4.20% a year, from 124.4 million devices in 2025 to 187.7 million in 2035. Five forces add 5.40 points; health sensing supplies 1.70 points and new form factors 1.50 points.

Health sensing: 1.70 points

Health features add 1.70 points. Watches now track blood pressure trends, sleep apnoea signs and heart rhythm, which draws in older buyers in Japan, South Korea and China. Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration listed Apple Watch hypertension notifications on its medical device register on 4 December 2025, the Australian Computer Society reported, for Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later.

New form factors: 1.50 points

Glasses and rings add 1.50 points. Each new smart wearable form sells to buyers who already own a watch, so it adds units rather than replacing them. Xiaomi ranked first in mainland China and third globally in AI glasses shipments in 2025, according to its annual results.

China trade-in subsidy: 0.90 points

Subsidies add 0.90 points. The 2026 programme pays up to 500 yuan on smartwatches and smart bands priced at 6,000 yuan or less, which covers nearly every smart wearable on sale in China and pulls replacement forward.

Southeast Asia adoption: 0.80 points

Southeast Asia adds 0.80 points as Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines buy their first smartwatch through online marketplaces. Douglas Insights counts 18.5 million smart wearable units there in 2025.

Insurer and employer programmes: 0.50 points

Insurers and employers add 0.50 points by subsidising devices for wellness schemes. The five contributions, 1.70 + 1.50 + 0.90 + 0.80 + 0.50, give 5.40 points before restraints.

What holds back Asia Pacific smart wearable volumes as India’s watch boom fades?

Three restraints remove 1.20 points from Asia Pacific smart wearable unit growth, leaving 4.20% a year. India’s watch shakeout takes 0.55 points, longer replacement cycles 0.40 points and privacy rules 0.25 points.

India’s shakeout is the largest brake. Low-priced Indian brands sold tens of millions of basic smartwatches between 2021 and 2024, many with weak sensors, and buyers did not replace them. boAt’s parent Imagine Marketing reported wearables revenue of INR 330.41 crore, 10.76% of its INR 3,070.38 crore FY2025 revenue, in its updated draft prospectus, Business Standard reported on 29 October 2025. India holds 20.9% of Asia Pacific smart wearable units but only 5.7% of value.

Longer cycles remove 0.40 points: a smartwatch bought in 2023 still works in 2026, and Apple’s 4% fall in wearables sales shows how mature buyers delay upgrades. Privacy rules remove 0.25 points, because health data from a smart wearable now falls under stricter consent rules in India, South Korea and Australia, which raises compliance costs for smaller brands.

Which Asia Pacific countries and sub-regions spend most on smart wearables?

China spends most on smart wearables, USD 7.32 billion or 55.6% of 2025 Asia Pacific value. Southeast Asia grows fastest, 9.60% a year to USD 2.87 billion by 2035, followed by India at 9.10%.

Country or sub-region Value 2025 Share 2025 CAGR 2026-2035 Value 2035
China USD 7.32 billion 55.6% 6.55% USD 13.8 billion
Japan USD 1.54 billion 11.7% 4.60% USD 2.41 billion
South Korea USD 1.30 billion 9.9% 5.10% USD 2.14 billion
Southeast Asia USD 1.15 billion 8.7% 9.60% USD 2.87 billion
Australia and New Zealand USD 935.0 million 7.1% 5.30% USD 1.57 billion
India USD 754.0 million 5.7% 9.10% USD 1.80 billion
Rest of Asia Pacific USD 176.0 million 1.3% 8.40% USD 394.3 million

China leads on 62.0 million smart wearable units at about USD 118 each, with Huawei, Apple and Xiaomi selling most of them and the trade-in subsidy covering nearly all models. Japan, at USD 1.54 billion, and South Korea, at USD 1.30 billion, buy fewer units but pay the highest averages, USD 248 and USD 255, because Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch dominate.

Southeast Asia reaches USD 2.87 billion by 2035 as Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines move from bands to watches. India grows 9.10% a year from a low USD 754.0 million because its average price, USD 29, is the lowest in the region and rises as buyers move from basic watches to better sensors. Australia and New Zealand pay USD 275 on average. In the data table the row labelled Global holds the Asia Pacific total, USD 13.2 billion in 2025.

What does a smart wearable cost in Asia Pacific, and why is the average price rising?

An Asia Pacific smart wearable realised an average manufacturer price of USD 106 in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, from under USD 20 for a basic band to over USD 700 for a titanium smartwatch. The average rises 2.40% a year.

Price tier Typical products Share of 2025 units Share of 2025 value
Under USD 50 Basic bands, entry watches in India and Southeast Asia 46.0% 9.5%
USD 50 to 250 Mid-range watches, rings, sports watches 38.0% 36.5%
Above USD 250 Apple Watch, Huawei WATCH, Galaxy Watch, smart glasses 16.0% 54.0%

Price per smart wearable rises because the mix moves upward. Bands are adding screens and GPS, glasses sell at USD 250 to USD 400, and India’s buyers are trading basic watches for ones with accurate sensors. Douglas Insights projects the average to rise from USD 106 to about USD 134 by 2035, while the under USD 50 tier falls as a share of units.

The above USD 250 tier holds only 16.0% of units but 54.0% of value, which is why Apple and Huawei lead on revenue while Xiaomi leads on bands. Footwear sensors are a related niche, sized in our Smart Shoes and Footwear Market study.

How do Asia Pacific smart wearables reach buyers: online stores, phone bundles or retail?

Online stores sell about 52.0% of Asia Pacific smart wearable units in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, phone-brand stores and bundles about 28.0% and other retail 20.0%. The channel mix explains why phone makers dominate.

Online leads because China’s JD.com and Tmall, India’s Flipkart and Amazon, and Southeast Asia’s Shopee and Lazada run the sales festivals where most bands and entry smartwatches are bought; Xiaomi and Huawei time launches to these events. Phone-brand stores and bundles hold 28.0% because a smart wearable from Apple, Huawei, Samsung, Honor or Oppo works best with the same company’s phone, so buyers pick it up with a handset upgrade. That pairing is the main barrier for independent brands such as Zepp Health and Garmin.

Other retail, at 20.0%, matters most in Japan, South Korea and Australia, where electronics chains, sports stores and telecom operators sell premium smartwatches with cellular plans. A cellular smartwatch adds a monthly connection fee for the operator, which is why carriers in South Korea and Australia promote them. Opticians are becoming a new channel for smart glasses, since EssilorLuxottica sells Ray-Ban Meta frames through its eyewear stores.

Which data rules, subsidies and device standards apply to smart wearables in Asia Pacific?

Three rule sets shape Asia Pacific smart wearables: China’s trade-in subsidy, capped at 500 yuan, medical device rules for health features in Australia and other markets, and India’s new data protection rules and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) registration.

India notified the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules in November 2025, with obligations phased in over 12 to 18 months, according to the Press Information Bureau. Heart rate, sleep and location data from a smart wearable are personal data, so brands selling in India need consent records and breach reporting. Smartwatches sold in India also need BIS registration before import.

Health claims follow medical device law: Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration listed Apple’s hypertension notification as a medical device in December 2025, and similar approvals are needed in Japan and South Korea before a smart wearable can advertise a diagnostic feature. China ties its subsidy to a 6,000-yuan price ceiling, which caps support at the premium end. Douglas Insights treats these standards as neutral on volume but positive on price, because approved health features lift the average.

What if AI glasses take off or China’s subsidy ends: where does the Asia Pacific smart wearable forecast land in 2035?

The Asia Pacific smart wearable market ends 2035 between USD 19.6 billion and USD 31.4 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 25.2 billion. Glasses adoption and China’s subsidy set most of the spread.

Case Unit leg Price leg 2035 value
Slower 2.60% 1.40% USD 19.6 billion
Base case 4.20% 2.40% USD 25.2 billion
Faster 5.60% 3.30% USD 31.4 billion

In the slower case China’s subsidy ends after 2026, smart glasses stay a niche and India’s watch market keeps shrinking. In the faster case AI glasses become an everyday accessory in China, Japan and South Korea and health approvals spread across the region. One extra point of yearly unit growth adds USD 2.52 billion to the 2035 smart wearable value; one point less removes USD 2.32 billion.

Our 6.70% base sits between Garmin’s 12% Asia Pacific growth and Apple’s 4% wearables decline in 2025, the two listed reference points.

24 March 2026 Xiaomi wearables revenue up 30.7% Under USD 50 to USD 250

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: smart glasses and smart rings hold 13.5% of 2025 Asia Pacific smart wearable value but supply 58.4% of the USD 12.0 billion added by 2035. India shows the other side of the ledger, with 20.9% of units and 5.7% of value. Growth in this smart wearable market moves up the price ladder, not across more cheap wrists.

How does the methodology turn 124.4 million smart wearables into USD 13.2 billion?

How this report is built

  • Every figure carries a confidence grade in the fact sheet above, and the working model ships with every licence.
  • Seven regional models sum to the global figure, with country tables in the Excel model.
  • The next scheduled review of this study is April 2027.
  • Licence holders receive it as a maintained tab in the Excel model.

Our methodology multiplies 124.4 million Asia Pacific smart wearable units sold in 2025 by an average manufacturer price of USD 106 to reach USD 13.2 billion. Units come from seven country builds; prices from three price tiers.

The model covers 7 countries and sub-regions, 4 product types and 3 price tiers, and uses 56 data points, 14 sourced and 42 modelled. Arithmetic: 124.4 million x USD 105.84 = USD 13.17 billion; 13.17 x (1.0420 x 1.0240)^10 = 25.18, or USD 25.2 billion. Units reach 129.6 million in 2026 and 187.7 million in 2035, and the average price reaches USD 108 in 2026.

Two cross-checks agree. First, our Apple estimate of USD 3.42 billion is about one-tenth of its USD 35.69 billion global wearables, home and accessories line, consistent with Asia Pacific’s 30.5% of Apple’s sales once AirPods and accessories are excluded. Second, Garmin’s USD 1.05 billion Asia Pacific revenue across all segments sits above our USD 658.3 million smart wearable estimate for it. Connected devices that pair with these wearables are covered in our Bluetooth Beacon Market and Asia Pacific 4K UHD TV Market reports.
