Single-use stretch film stays on intra-company pallets across the EU because Commission Delegated Decision (EU) 2026/429 of 25 February 2026 exempts certain operators from the 100% reuse requirement that the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) set for pallet wrappings and straps. Pallet stretch wrapping machines are powered machines that wind stretch film around a loaded pallet to hold it together for storage and transport; the pallet stretch wrapping machines market covers semi-automatic and automatic turntables, rotary arm, rotary ring, orbital and horizontal wrappers sold new. Douglas Insights counts 78,600 machines shipped in 2025 at an average realised price of USD 16,840, so 78,600 × USD 16,840 = USD 1.32 billion. Our model reaches USD 2.19 billion by 2035, a revenue CAGR of 5.15% over 2026 to 2035. The study belongs to our packaging hub, and every estimate follows the Douglas Insights research methodology.

Who supplies pallet stretch wrapping machines, and how far ahead are Robopac, Lantech and Signode?

Robopac, Lantech and Signode hold 31.6% of 2025 stretch wrapper value by Douglas Insights estimate, and seven named suppliers hold 48.3%. Robopac leads at 13.8%, built on volume turntables and rotary arms from San Marino, while Lantech and Signode compete on automatic lines in North America and Europe.

Supplier Estimated share 2025 Estimated stretch wrapper revenue 2025 Position built on
Robopac (Aetna Group) 13.8% USD 182.7 million Over 12,000 machines a year, about 90% exported
Lantech 9.6% USD 127.1 million Inventor of the stretch wrapper, plants in the US and the Netherlands
Signode (Crown Holdings) 8.2% USD 108.5 million Equipment sold alongside strap and industrial film
FROMM 4.9% USD 64.9 million Wrapping and strapping through more than 30 subsidiaries
Wulftec (Duravant) 4.4% USD 58.2 million Semi-automatic and automatic wrappers built in Quebec
Orion (ProMach) 4.1% USD 54.3 million Turntable range from Collierville, Tennessee
Atlanta Stretch 3.3% USD 43.7 million Stretch wrappers from its main plant in Italy

Robopac, the Aetna Group machinery unit, makes more than 12,000 machines a year and exports about 90% of them. It calls itself the world leader in stretch film wrapping, with turntables, rotating arms, horizontal wrappers and shrink applicators in one catalogue. Douglas Insights puts its 2025 stretch wrapper revenue at USD 182.7 million.

Lantech of Louisville, Kentucky, invented the stretch wrapper in 1972 and builds machines in the United States and the Netherlands. Its newest SL automatic stretch wrapper with automatic roll change made its European debut at Drinktec in Munich, held from 15 to 19 September 2025, according to Lantech, beside the new SL 400 semi-automatic wrapper.

Signode sits inside the Transit Packaging segment of Crown Holdings, which reported 2025 net sales of USD 2.0 billion and segment income of USD 258 million in its annual report on Form 10-K. That segment sells manual, semi-automatic and automatic equipment with steel strap, plastic strap and industrial film, so a stretch wrapper sale often pulls years of film revenue behind it. Our USD 108.5 million estimate for Signode wrappers equals 5.4% of the segment.

FROMM, a family business of Swiss origin, employs about 800 people and reports turnover above EUR 155 million across stretch wrapping, strapping and air cushion systems. Wulftec, owned by Duravant, builds semi-automatic and fully automatic stretch wrappers in Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec. Orion, a ProMach brand based in Collierville, Tennessee, sells Flex turntables quoting 260% film delivery. Atlanta Stretch builds its stretch wrapping machines at its main plant in Italy and serves Spain and Morocco through Atlanta Stretch Ibérica.

Which stretch wrapper format makes the money: turntable, rotary arm or rotary ring?

Semi-automatic turntable wrappers make the most money, USD 459.3 million or 34.7% of 2025 stretch wrapper value on our model, because small plants and warehouses buy them first. Rotary ring wrappers grow fastest at 6.48% a year to 2035, as beverage and dairy lines need 100 or more pallets an hour.

Machine type Share 2025 Value 2025 CAGR 2026-2035 Value 2035
Semi-automatic turntable wrappers 34.7% USD 459.3 million 4.12% USD 687.8 million
Rotary arm wrappers 26.3% USD 348.1 million 5.92% USD 618.7 million
Automatic turntable wrappers 21.8% USD 288.5 million 5.46% USD 490.9 million
Rotary ring wrappers 11.4% USD 150.9 million 6.48% USD 282.7 million
Orbital and horizontal wrappers 5.8% USD 76.8 million 4.37% USD 117.8 million

Semi-automatic turntable wrappers carry USD 459.3 million and reach USD 687.8 million in 2035 at 4.12% a year. An operator attaches the film tail and removes the load. Suits small sites.

Rotary arm wrappers hold 26.3%, worth USD 348.1 million, and grow 5.92% a year. The film carriage circles a stationary pallet, which protects unstable or very heavy loads that cannot spin on a turntable.

Automatic turntable wrappers take 21.8%, or USD 288.5 million, and grow 5.46% a year to USD 490.9 million. Conveyor infeed, automatic film cut and clamp, and roll change features push buyers from the semi-automatic class into this one.

Douglas Insights expects Rotary ring wrappers to compound at 6.48% a year, from USD 150.9 million to USD 282.7 million. The ring carries the film around the load at high speed without swinging an arm, the format of choice for high-output bottling and dairy plants.

Orbital and horizontal wrappers are smallest. They hold 5.8%, or USD 76.8 million, growing 4.37% a year. They wrap long products such as profiles, doors and panels through the ring, so building-materials plants dominate their order book.

How do food plants, distribution centres and building-materials yards share stretch wrapper spending?

Food and beverages absorb 38.9% of 2025 stretch wrapper value on our model, worth USD 514.9 million, because bottled drinks, dairy and dry grocery leave plants as full pallets every few minutes. Consumer goods and retail distribution grows fastest at 6.13% a year as mixed-case pallets multiply in distribution centres.

Food and beverages rise to USD 844.3 million by 2035 at 5.07% a year. Consumer goods and retail distribution starts at USD 325.6 million, or 24.6%, and reaches USD 590.3 million. Chemicals and building materials hold 17.2%, or USD 227.7 million, growing 4.21% a year. Pharmaceuticals take 7.7%, or USD 101.9 million, and grow 5.84% on serialised, temperature-sensitive pallets. Other industrial users carry 11.6%, worth USD 153.5 million, growing 4.49%. Conveyor feeds into wrappers are sized in our Light Goods Conveyor Market study.

Why are distribution centres and film taxes boosting pallet stretch wrapper orders?

Pallet stretch wrapper shipments rise 3.38% a year in the Douglas Insights base case, from 78,600 machines in 2025 to 109,594 in 2035. Three drivers make up that volume leg: distribution centre growth, labour substitution through automation, and film savings pushed by plastic taxes and reuse rules.

Distribution centres and e-commerce pallets

US retail e-commerce reached USD 340.2 billion in the second quarter of 2026, or 17.1% of total retail sales and 12.2% above a year earlier, in the Census Bureau release of 18 August 2026. Each new fulfilment or cross-dock building needs stretch wrappers. Outbound docks are where they sit, and mixed-case retail pallets are taller and less stable than single-product loads. Douglas Insights assigns 1.29 percentage points of the 3.38-point volume leg to distribution centre growth, the largest single contribution to stretch wrapper unit demand. Readers planning whole-building automation can pair this study with our Warehouse Automation Market research.

Labour substitution and automatic roll change

A hand-fed turntable such as the Uline H-1287 wraps 10 to 12 loads an hour with an operator walking the film around the pallet. Automatic stretch wrappers remove that walk, and automatic roll change removes the stop when a film roll runs out, the feature Lantech showed on its SL automatic wrapper. A site wrapping 12,000 pallets a year at 2.2 operator minutes saved per load frees 440 labour hours. Plants replacing hand wrapping with a semi-automatic machine, or a semi-automatic machine with an automatic one, account for 1.12 percentage points of stretch wrapper volume growth on our model, concentrated in Automatic turntable wrappers and Rotary arm wrappers.

Film savings, plastic tax and reuse rules

The UK Plastic Packaging Tax charges GBP 223.69 per tonne from 1 April 2025 and GBP 228.82 per tonne from 1 April 2026 on plastic packaging components containing less than 30% recycled plastic, according to HMRC guidance. Stretch film falls under that charge, so every kilogram saved through powered pre-stretch cuts tax as well as resin. The EU exemption for pallet wrappings keeps film, and the machines that apply it, as the standard intra-company load-securing method. Douglas Insights attributes 0.97 percentage points to film-saving replacement, giving 1.29 + 1.12 + 0.97 = 3.38 points in total.

Realised prices climb a further 1.71% a year. Stacked on the volume leg, that yields the 5.15% revenue CAGR for pallet stretch wrapping machines.

What headwinds slow stretch wrapper purchases when plant capex tightens?

Three headwinds remove 1.46 percentage points from stretch wrapper volume growth in the Douglas Insights slower case. They are delayed plant and warehouse capital spending, long machine lives with an active used market, and substitution by stretch hoods and low-cost builds, which together cut annual unit growth from 3.38% to 1.92%.

Capital spending comes first. Stretch wrappers are often the last line item approved in a new packaging line, and a postponed warehouse project defers several machines at once. We remove 0.61 points of stretch wrapper volume for a two-year capex pause.

Machine life is next. A well-maintained turntable keeps running for well over a decade, and refurbished Lantech, Wulftec and Robopac units trade on used-machinery sites at a fraction of new prices. We take 0.48 points off volume for longer replacement cycles.

Substitution bites third. It hurts. Stretch hood systems compete on high-volume building-materials and beverage lines, and low-cost Asian semi-automatic turntables undercut branded makers in price-led tenders. Substitution costs 0.37 points. The three drags sum to 1.46 points (0.61 + 0.48 + 0.37).

Where are pallet stretch wrappers bought, and why does Asia Pacific outpace Europe?

Europe buys the most pallet stretch wrappers, USD 488.4 million or 36.9% of 2025 value on our model, because its food and beverage plants run dense automatic lines. Asia Pacific grows fastest, at 6.11% a year to USD 541.2 million in 2035, as Chinese, Indian and Southeast Asian plants move off hand wrapping.

Europe reaches USD 766.5 million in 2035 at 4.61% a year, a mature rate set by replacement demand and the Machinery Regulation cycle. North America carries USD 413.0 million, or 31.2%, and grows 4.94% to USD 668.9 million on distribution centre construction and the highest average price, about USD 21,783 a machine on our model.

Asia Pacific starts at USD 299.1 million, or 22.6%, and ships the most units, 26,180 machines, at the lowest average price of about USD 11,425. Latin America holds USD 67.5 million, or 5.1%, rising 5.42% a year to USD 114.4 million as Brazilian and Mexican beverage bottlers automate end-of-line packing.

Gulf tenders make the Middle East and Africa the wildcard: USD 55.6 million, 4.2% of value, rising 5.56% a year to USD 95.5 million. One food park or logistics zone award buys dozens of wrappers, so a single contract can swing the regional total by more than 8% in a year on our model.

How much does a stretch wrapper cost, from a USD 3,280 turntable to a rotary ring line?

Buyers pay USD 16,840 for an average new pallet stretch wrapper in 2025 on our model, within bands from about USD 3,000 to USD 320,000. Hand-fed turntables sit at the bottom and rotary ring lines at the top, because film carriage, automation and throughput set each invoice.

Stretch wrapper class Typical throughput Estimated new price band 2025
Hand-fed turntable, no carriage 10 to 12 loads an hour USD 3,000 to 4,500
Semi-automatic turntable, powered pre-stretch 20 to 35 loads an hour USD 7,500 to 16,000
Automatic turntable with conveyor 40 to 60 loads an hour USD 28,000 to 65,000
Rotary arm, automatic 50 to 90 loads an hour USD 45,000 to 140,000
Rotary ring, high speed above 100 loads an hour USD 140,000 to 320,000

List prices anchor the bottom band. Uline sells its H-1287 low-profile stretch wrap turntable, rated at 4,000 lb, for USD 3,280 and its H-2303 high-profile turntable for USD 3,455, with an optional ramp at USD 1,015. Both use foot pedal control and wrap 10 to 12 loads an hour.

Average stretch wrapper prices rise 1.71% a year in the base case, to about USD 19,952 in 2035. Mix explains most of it: more automatic roll change, film tension sensors and remote diagnostics, plus conformity work for the new EU Machinery Regulation.

What separates powered pre-stretch from core-brake film delivery on a stretch wrapper?

Powered pre-stretch machines take 61.3% of 2025 stretch wrapper value on our model, worth USD 811.4 million, because stretching film 200% to 300% before it touches the load cuts film use by roughly half. Mechanical brake and core brake machines hold the cheaper 38.7%.

Powered pre-stretch grows 5.74% a year to USD 1.42 billion in 2035. Two motor-driven rollers turning at different speeds elongate the film, and Orion quotes 260% film delivery on its Flex dual turntables. Mechanical brake and core brake carriages, worth USD 512.2 million, grow 4.16% a year to USD 769.9 million; they stretch film by dragging it against a braked roll, which costs less to buy but uses more film per pallet. Readers tracking film resin can compare our Sustainable Plastic Packaging Market report.

How do PPWR reuse rules, the Machinery Regulation and plastic tax shape stretch wrapper specifications?

Three rule sets shape most stretch wrapper specifications: the PPWR reuse framework for pallet wrappings, the EU Machinery Regulation for machines sold from 2027, and the UK Plastic Packaging Tax on film. Douglas Insights estimates that 36.9% of 2025 stretch wrapper value is sold under EU machinery rules.

The PPWR required pallet wrappings and straps used inside a company to be 100% reusable within a re-use system. Delegated Decision (EU) 2026/429, adopted on 25 February 2026, exempts certain operators from that requirement, so stretch film applied by machine remains lawful for intra-company and intra-group transport. Film suppliers and stretch wrapper makers now compete on grams of film per pallet rather than on reusable alternatives.

Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and applies on a mandatory basis as of 20 January 2027, according to the European Commission. Stretch wrapper makers selling into the EU must update conformity files, safety guarding and instructions for every model placed on the market from that date, a cost we fold into the 1.71% price leg.

How far does the 2035 stretch wrapper forecast move with warehouse capex?

Across our three cases, the 2035 pallet stretch wrapping machines value spans USD 1.82 billion to USD 2.51 billion, and the base sits at USD 2.19 billion. Warehouse and plant capital spending sets the volume leg; automation content and machinery compliance set the price leg.

Case Volume CAGR Price CAGR 2035 value
Slower 1.92% 1.30% USD 1.82 billion
Base case 3.38% 1.71% USD 2.19 billion
Faster 4.46% 2.05% USD 2.51 billion

The slower case adds a two-year capex pause, longer machine lives and more stretch hood substitution. The faster case assumes e-commerce keeps growing near the 12.2% annual rate the Census Bureau reported and that the reuse exemption in Delegated Decision (EU) 2026/429 of 25 February 2026 holds, so European plants buy pre-stretch machines rather than reusable wrap systems.

Sensitivity is lopsided toward units: one extra point of annual stretch wrapper unit growth adds USD 221.0 million to the 2035 value, while one point less removes USD 202.5 million. Outside forecasts we read run from 3.6% to 5.6% a year with a median of 5.3%, so our 5.15% sits 0.15 points under that median.

Douglas Exclusive: the Stretch Wrapper Film Payback Index

The Stretch Wrapper Film Payback Index is a Douglas Insights model built from 26 inputs: 7 published figures and 19 Douglas Insights assumptions. It scores how fast a semi-automatic powered pre-stretch turntable pays back against hand wrapping in each region, with 100 equal to the global average payback of 5.82 months.

Region Installed machine price Annual saving Payback months Index score
Europe USD 9,850 USD 24,150 4.9 119.0
North America USD 8,900 USD 22,772 4.7 124.2
Asia Pacific USD 6,150 USD 10,846 6.8 85.6
Latin America USD 7,900 USD 11,954 7.9 73.4
Middle East and Africa USD 8,350 USD 12,956 7.7 75.3

The 7 published figures are the 2 Uline turntable prices, Uline’s 10 to 12 loads an hour, the 2 UK Plastic Packaging Tax rates, the 30% recycled content threshold and Orion’s 260% film delivery. The 19 assumptions are 5 regional film prices, 5 labour rates, 5 installed machine prices, 2 film weights per load, 1 labour time saving and 1 annual load count. Each site wraps 12,000 pallets a year, film use falls from 0.62 kg to 0.27 kg a load, a 56.5% cut, and operator time falls 2.2 minutes a load.

The finding: North America scores highest at 124.2, because labour savings of about USD 13,112 a year dominate. Asia Pacific scores 85.6 despite the cheapest machine, since low wages shrink the labour saving, which explains why hand wrapping persists there and why the region still holds the most headroom for stretch wrapper unit growth. Each site saves 4,200 kg of film a year, and in the UK every tonne avoided also avoids GBP 228.82 of tax when film carries less than 30% recycled plastic.

Which receipts and cross-checks support the 78,600-machine stretch wrapper count?

Douglas Insights counts 78,600 new pallet stretch wrapping machines shipped across 5 regions in 2025 and multiplies them by a USD 16,840 average realised price to reach USD 1.32 billion. Regional rows add back to the global line exactly, and three cross-checks bracket the base.

Regional receipts: Europe 24,310 machines × USD 20,090; North America 18,960 × USD 21,783; Asia Pacific 26,180 × USD 11,425; Latin America 4,890 × USD 13,804; Middle East and Africa 4,260 × USD 13,052. Compounding 3.38% unit growth with 1.71% price growth gives 5.15% revenue growth, and the 2026 starting point is 81,257 machines at USD 17,128 each.

Inputs: 5 published growth rates, 5 published base-year values, 7 company disclosures, 3 Uline list prices, 1 statistics release and 3 legal texts. Cross-check one: Robopac’s more than 12,000 machines a year equal 15.3% of our unit count, close to its 13.8% value share once its lower-priced turntable mix is allowed for. Cross-check two: Signode’s estimated wrapper revenue equals 5.4% of Crown’s USD 2.0 billion Transit Packaging sales. Cross-check three: published base-year values run from about USD 0.39 billion for narrow pallet-only definitions to USD 4.1 billion for broad stretch wrapper scopes, and our USD 1.32 billion sits inside that range. Machine type 2035 values sum to USD 2.20 billion, within 0.6% of USD 2.19 billion.
