China’s foundries poured 9.05 million tonnes of aluminum and magnesium alloy castings in 2025, up 8.8%, within total casting output of 52.3 million tonnes, China Foundry Association figures reported on 9 September 2026 show, while the country built 34.53 million vehicles, up 10.4%, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said in January 2026. The Asia Pacific aluminum casting market covers shaped parts poured or injected from aluminum alloys by high-pressure die casting, low-pressure die casting, gravity and permanent mould casting, sand casting and investment casting at foundries in the region, valued at the foundry gate. Douglas Insights sizes it at USD 42.73 billion in 2025, which is about 13.96 million tonnes of castings multiplied by a blended USD 3,060 per tonne, and at USD 63.61 billion in 2035, a 4.06% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The study is the Asia Pacific row of our worldwide Aluminum Casting Market model and belongs to our metals and metal products coverage, beside the Aluminum Parts Gravity Die Casting Market and Aluminum Metal Market reports, and every figure follows the Douglas Insights research methodology.
Which casting process earns the most in the region’s foundries: high-pressure die casting or low-pressure wheels?
High-pressure die casting earns the most aluminum casting value in the region: 53.5% of 2025 value, or USD 22.86 billion. It also grows fastest, at 4.55% a year, on housings, battery trays and one-piece car underbodies.
| Process segment | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High-pressure die casting | 53.5% | USD 22.86 billion | 4.55% | USD 35.67 billion |
| Low-pressure die casting | 17.8% | USD 7.61 billion | 3.85% | USD 11.10 billion |
| Gravity and permanent mould casting | 13.9% | USD 5.94 billion | 3.30% | USD 8.22 billion |
| Sand casting | 9.6% | USD 4.10 billion | 2.20% | USD 5.10 billion |
| Investment and other casting | 5.2% | USD 2.22 billion | 3.60% | USD 3.16 billion |
High-pressure die casting takes a larger slice of aluminum casting here than in the worldwide model, 53.5% against 51.4%, because the region makes most of the world’s scooters, compact cars and electronics housings, all thin-walled parts injected in seconds. Chinese carmakers built more than 16 million new energy vehicles in 2025, over half of national output, the CAAM figures show, and each battery car needs a die-cast motor housing, inverter case and often a battery tray. Low-pressure die casting, USD 7.61 billion, is the alloy wheel and cylinder head process, and grows 3.85% a year as wheel output follows vehicle output.
Gravity and permanent mould casting, USD 5.94 billion, makes pistons, brake calipers and two-wheeler cylinder blocks, and grows 3.30% a year. Sand casting, USD 4.10 billion, grows only 2.20% because its main outlet, engine blocks and heads for combustion engines, shrinks as battery cars take share. Investment and other casting, USD 2.22 billion, serves pump impellers, medical parts and aerospace brackets and grows 3.60%. Process values for 2035 sum to USD 63.24 billion, 0.57% below the headline, a Douglas Insights estimate.
Which end use absorbs the most cast aluminum: passenger cars, scooters or machinery?
Passenger cars absorb 55.0% of aluminum casting value in the region, about USD 23.50 billion in 2025. Two-wheelers take 12.5%, USD 5.34 billion, and grow fastest, at 5.60% a year, on Indian and Southeast Asian scooter demand.
| End use | Share 2025 | Value 2025 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passenger cars | 55.0% | USD 23.50 billion | 4.10% | USD 35.12 billion |
| Two-wheelers | 12.5% | USD 5.34 billion | 5.60% | USD 9.21 billion |
| Commercial vehicles | 8.5% | USD 3.63 billion | 3.40% | USD 5.07 billion |
| Industrial machinery | 13.0% | USD 5.55 billion | 3.80% | USD 8.07 billion |
| Building and construction | 5.5% | USD 2.35 billion | 2.90% | USD 3.13 billion |
| Electrical, consumer and other | 5.5% | USD 2.35 billion | 4.60% | USD 3.68 billion |
The two-wheeler value share, 12.5%, compares with 7.2% of tonnage worldwide in our parent model, because almost every scooter crankcase, wheel and swing arm made in India, China, Indonesia and Vietnam is cast. Indian domestic two-wheeler sales rose 10.7% to 2.17 crore (21.7 million) units in the year to March 2026, with scooters up 18.5%, and two-wheeler exports reached a record 51.8 lakh (5.18 million) units, up 23.4%, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data published on 14 April 2026 show.
Industrial machinery, USD 5.55 billion, covers pump bodies, compressor housings, robot arms and telecom enclosures, and grows 3.80% a year. Commercial vehicles add USD 3.63 billion at 3.40%, mostly gearbox housings and wheels for trucks and buses. Electrical, consumer and other uses, USD 2.35 billion, grow 4.60% on inverter heat sinks and data centre cooling plates. Building and construction, USD 2.35 billion, grows slowest at 2.90% as Chinese property construction stays weak. End-use values for 2035 sum to USD 64.28 billion, 1.05% above the headline, a Douglas Insights estimate.
What drives demand for aluminum castings: electric vehicle structures, cheaper scooters or car exports?
Aluminum casting tonnage in the region rises 2.60% a year, from about 13.96 million tonnes in 2025 to 18.05 million in 2035. Four drivers add 3.40 points of gross volume growth before restraints remove 0.80 points.
Electric vehicle structures and housings: 1.25 points
Battery cars add 1.25 points of aluminum casting volume, the largest driver. China made more than 16 million new energy vehicles in 2025, over 50% of its 34.53 million vehicle total, the CAAM data released in January 2026 show. A battery car drops the cast engine block but adds a motor housing, an inverter case, a battery tray and often large structural nodes, so on our working assumption it carries about 15 kg more cast aluminum than the petrol car it replaces. Every million battery cars that replace petrol cars therefore add about 15,000 tonnes, or 0.11% of regional volume, before counting one-piece underbodies.
Two-wheeler and small car demand: 0.95 points
Scooters and small cars add 0.95 points. India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council cut the rate on motorcycles up to 350 cc and on small cars from 28% to 18% at its meeting of 3 September 2025, with effect from 22 September 2025, the India Brand Equity Foundation reported. Domestic two-wheeler sales rose 26.4% in January to March 2026 against a year earlier, the SIAM year-end data show. At about 9 kg of cast aluminum per scooter, a Douglas Insights estimate, each extra million two-wheelers adds about 9,000 tonnes of crankcases, wheels and covers.
Vehicle output and exports from China: 0.70 points
Chinese vehicle output adds 0.70 points. Production of 34.53 million vehicles in 2025 was the highest in the world for the 17th year running, China Daily reported. The China Foundry Association counted 15.8 million tonnes of castings used by the automotive sector in 2025, up 5%, 30.2% of all castings, The Metalnomist reported on 9 September 2026.
Machinery, electronics and grid equipment: 0.50 points
Non-vehicle outlets add the last 0.50 points. Pump, compressor, robot and telecom housings, inverter heat sinks and server cooling plates use gravity and pressure die castings, and Douglas Insights counts these outlets at 24.0% of regional value, about USD 10.25 billion in 2025. Summed, 1.25 + 0.95 + 0.70 + 0.50 = 3.40 points of gross volume growth, a Douglas Insights estimate; after restraints, the 2.60% net volume leg multiplied by the 1.42% price leg gives the 4.06% revenue rate.
What holds back aluminum casting volume: shrinking engine blocks, tariff walls or a mature home market?
Three restraints remove 0.80 points a year from aluminum casting volume growth in the region: shrinking combustion engine content takes 0.45 points, export tariffs and carbon charges 0.22 points and a mature Japanese market 0.13 points.
Engine content is the heaviest drag. Cylinder heads, blocks, oil pans and transmission cases are the core of sand, gravity and low-pressure aluminum casting work, and every battery car built in place of a petrol car removes most of them. Douglas Insights estimates powertrain parts at 29.0% of 2025 regional casting tonnes, falling to about 21% by 2035, which takes 0.45 points off yearly volume even as electric housings add more.
Trade barriers take 0.22 points. The United States doubled its Section 232 duty on aluminum articles and derivatives to 50% from 4 June 2025, the White House fact sheet states, so a cast housing shipped from Thailand or India inside a sub-assembly can carry the duty on its aluminum content. The European Union (EU) Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) moved to its definitive phase on 1 January 2026 under Regulation (EU) 2023/956, which charges importers for the emissions embedded in aluminum goods, a cost that falls hardest on coal-powered Chinese metal.
Japan adds a third drag of 0.13 points. Ahresty, a Tokyo-based die caster, expects consolidated sales to fall 3.3% to 161.6 billion yen in the year to March 2027 and its Asian die casting sales to drop from 36.2 billion yen to 31.5 billion yen, its results filed on 20 May 2026 show. Douglas Insights holds Japanese casting tonnage near 0.5% a year, against 2.60% for the region.
Which country in Asia Pacific pours the most aluminum castings, and where does value grow fastest?
China leads Asia Pacific aluminum casting with USD 25.70 billion, 60.2% of 2025 value, Douglas Insights estimates. India grows fastest, at 7.40% a year from USD 5.25 billion to USD 10.72 billion by 2035.
| Country | Value 2025 | Share 2025 | Value 2026 | CAGR 2026-2035 | Value 2035 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| China | USD 25.70 billion | 60.2% | USD 26.66 billion | 3.75% | USD 37.14 billion |
| Japan | USD 4.78 billion | 11.2% | USD 4.84 billion | 1.30% | USD 5.44 billion |
| India | USD 5.25 billion | 12.3% | USD 5.64 billion | 7.40% | USD 10.72 billion |
| South Korea | USD 2.18 billion | 5.1% | USD 2.24 billion | 2.60% | USD 2.82 billion |
| Southeast Asia | USD 3.34 billion | 7.8% | USD 3.53 billion | 5.80% | USD 5.87 billion |
| Rest of Asia Pacific | USD 1.48 billion | 3.5% | USD 1.52 billion | 3.20% | USD 2.02 billion |
China pours about 8.70 million tonnes of aluminum castings, 62.3% of the region’s tonnage, but earns 60.2% of value, because its blended price of about USD 2,950 per tonne is the lowest in the region. That tonnage is the aluminum part of the 9.05 million tonnes of aluminum and magnesium castings the China Foundry Association counted for 2025, The Metalnomist reported. China’s 3.75% growth trails the region because its car market is already the largest and its building demand is weak. Japan grows only 1.30% a year as domestic car output stays flat and Japanese casters move work to Thailand, China and North America.
India grows fastest on scooters, small cars and export castings. Endurance Technologies, which calls itself India’s largest aluminum die caster, said its Indian total income rose 20% in the year to March 2026, against 13% growth in two-wheeler industry volumes, its results of 14 May 2026 state. Southeast Asia, USD 3.34 billion, grows 5.80% on Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese car and motorcycle plants. Country values sum to USD 44.44 billion in 2026 and USD 64.01 billion in 2035, 0.62% above the headline; in the data table the row labelled Global holds the Asia Pacific total.
Which companies supply aluminum castings, and how concentrated is the market?
Supply is fragmented. CITIC Dicastal, the wheel arm of China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC), leads with about 2.9% of 2025 aluminum casting value, a Douglas Insights estimate, ahead of Ryobi at 2.3% and Ahresty at 1.6%.
| Company | Home base and casting focus | Latest disclosed figure | Estimated share 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| CITIC Dicastal | Qinhuangdao, China; low-pressure alloy wheels and chassis parts | Not disclosed by region | 2.9% |
| Ryobi | Hiroshima, Japan; plants in China and Thailand | Die casting sales of 274.3 billion yen in 2025 | 2.3% |
| Ahresty | Tokyo, Japan; plants in China and India | Japan and Asia die casting sales of 104.8 billion yen in FY2025 | 1.6% |
| Endurance Technologies | Aurangabad, India; two-wheeler and car die castings | Total income 14,720 crore rupees in FY2026 | 1.3% |
| Wencan Group | Foshan, China; structural and one-piece die castings | Not disclosed by process | 1.1% |
| Nemak | Monterrey, Mexico; heads, blocks and battery housings | Rest of World revenue USD 664 million in 2025 | 0.8% |
Ryobi’s die casting sales rose 16.4 billion yen to 274.3 billion yen in 2025, with production weight up in Japan and China but down in Thailand, and it guides to 280.0 billion yen for 2026, its results briefing of 13 February 2026 shows. Ahresty’s die casting arm sold 68.6 billion yen in Japan and 36.2 billion yen in the rest of Asia in the year to March 2026, when group sales rose 2.6% to 167.1 billion yen, its Tokyo Stock Exchange filing shows. At about 150 yen to the dollar, a Douglas Insights conversion, Ahresty’s regional die casting is about USD 700 million.
Endurance Technologies runs 34 plants, 20 of them in India, and lifted consolidated total income 26.1% to 14,720 crore rupees in the year to March 2026, its May 2026 release states. Nemak, the largest aluminum casting group in our worldwide model, earned USD 4.93 billion in 2025 on 38.4 million equivalent units, down 2.7%, of which USD 664 million came from its Rest of World region, and it closed the purchase of the automotive arm of GF Casting Solutions, a unit of Georg Fischer (GF), on 12 February 2026, its results of 24 February 2026 show. CITIC Dicastal and Wencan do not split regional casting revenue, so their shares are Douglas Insights estimates. The top three hold about 6.8% of value and the six named companies about 10.0%; thousands of captive and job foundries hold the rest.
How much does a tonne of aluminum casting cost in the region, from sand moulds to die-cast housings?
Buyers in the region paid a blended USD 3,060 per tonne of aluminum casting in 2025, Douglas Insights estimates, from about USD 2,650 for sand castings to about USD 3,900 for investment castings. The price leg rises 1.42% a year.
| Process | Price per tonne 2025 | Tonnes 2025 | Value 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| High-pressure die casting | About USD 3,170 | 7.21 million | USD 22.86 billion |
| Low-pressure die casting | About USD 3,000 | 2.54 million | USD 7.61 billion |
| Gravity and permanent mould casting | About USD 2,820 | 2.11 million | USD 5.94 billion |
| Sand casting | About USD 2,650 | 1.55 million | USD 4.10 billion |
| Investment and other casting | About USD 3,900 | 0.57 million | USD 2.22 billion |
The regional blend sits 6.3% below the worldwide USD 3,265 because Chinese and Indian foundries pay less for labour, power and recycled alloy. It reaches about USD 3,104 in 2026 and USD 3,524 in 2035. Metal is the largest input: China produced about 45 million tonnes of primary aluminum in 2025 and India 4.2 million tonnes, while the average U.S. spot ingot price rose to 180 cents a pound from 129.5 cents in 2024, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Mineral Commodity Summaries of February 2026 show. That 39% gap on the American side of the 50% duty wall keeps Asian castings competitive on price but not on landed cost.
Most casting contracts in the region index the alloy price and pass it through monthly or quarterly, so the 1.42% price leg reflects conversion value: more machining, larger structural parts and tighter porosity specifications for battery trays. A 10% move in alloy cost shifts the blended price by roughly 6% within a quarter, a Douglas Insights estimate.
Will one-piece gigacastings replace stamped steel underbodies?
Partly. Douglas Insights estimates one-piece structural castings at about 3.5% of the region’s 2025 aluminum casting value, about USD 1.50 billion, rising to about 8.0% by 2035 as Chinese carmakers spread them across more models.
The machines exist. L.K. Technology, the Hong Kong-listed press maker, said it commercialised the world’s first 16,000-tonne ultra-large die-casting unit and kept the global lead in cumulative ultra-large machine deliveries, while die-casting machinery earned HKD 3.66 billion, 65.3% of HKD 5.61 billion revenue, in the year to March 2026, its annual results of 30 June 2026 state. The same filing describes weak downstream demand for its machines, a sign, in our view, that carmakers are pacing orders for giant presses while they test one-piece parts on more platforms.
A one-piece rear underbody replaces 50 to 80 stamped and welded steel parts, a Douglas Insights view, and moves value from body shops to foundries such as Wencan and Guangdong Hongtu. The catch is repair cost and scrap: a cracked casting cannot be straightened, and a single porosity defect scraps a 60 kg part. Douglas Insights therefore models gigacasting as part of the 1.25-point electric vehicle driver rather than as a separate leg.
Which tariffs, tax cuts and carbon rules bind aluminum casting makers from Ningbo to Pune?
Three rules now reprice aluminum casting in the region: India’s GST cut of 22 September 2025, the 50% United States duty from 4 June 2025 and the EU carbon border charge from 1 January 2026.
India’s tax cut is a demand rule. Lowering GST on motorcycles up to 350 cc and small cars from 28% to 18%, decided by the GST Council on 3 September 2025 and effective on 22 September 2025, cut the tax-inclusive price of a qualifying scooter by about 7.8%, a Douglas Insights calculation, and pulled two-wheeler demand forward, which is why Indian scooter sales grew 18.5% in the year to March 2026. The United States duty is an export rule: the June 2025 fact sheet applies 50% to aluminum derivatives, so Chinese, Thai and Indian casters selling wheels and housings to American assembly plants lose much of their cost lead.
The EU rule is a carbon rule. Under Regulation (EU) 2023/956, importers of covered aluminum goods buy certificates for embedded emissions from 2026, so foundries that remelt scrap or buy hydro-based alloy can quote lower landed costs than those using coal-powered primary metal.
What if car output stalls or scooter demand surges: how large is the market in 2035?
The Asia Pacific aluminum casting market ends 2035 between USD 54.77 billion and USD 72.05 billion across our three cases, around a base of USD 63.59 billion. Vehicle output and the pace of electrification set most of the spread.
| Case | Tonnage leg | Price per tonne leg | Revenue rate | 2035 value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slower | 1.60% | 0.90% | 2.51% | USD 54.77 billion |
| Base case | 2.60% | 1.42% | 4.06% | USD 63.59 billion |
| Faster | 3.40% | 1.90% | 5.36% | USD 72.05 billion |
In the slower case Chinese car output flattens after the 10.4% rise of 2025, export duties widen and Japanese output falls, taking 1.00 point off the tonnage leg. In the faster case Indian two-wheeler sales keep the 10.7% pace that SIAM recorded for the year to March 2026 and one-piece castings spread across Chinese mid-size cars. One extra point of yearly tonnage growth adds about USD 6.48 billion to 2035 value.
Published company signals bracket the base case. Ryobi guides to 2.08% growth in die casting sales for 2026, its February 2026 briefing shows, while Chinese aluminum and magnesium casting output rose 8.8% in 2025, the China Foundry Association data show. Our 4.06% sits between the two because it blends a mature Japan with fast-growing India and China.

The finding, a Douglas Insights estimate: aluminum casting growth in the region is shifting south. India and Southeast Asia hold 20.1% of 2025 value but supply 37.6% of the USD 21.28 billion that countries add by 2035, while China holds 60.2% of value and supplies 53.7%, and Japan holds 11.2% and supplies only 3.1%. India alone, at 12.3% of today’s market, supplies 25.7% of the growth, the largest gap between share and contribution in the ledger.
The ledger also shows who is positioned for that shift. Of the 12 inputs, the 3 Japanese and Indian company filings point the same way: Ryobi’s Thai output fell in 2025, Ahresty expects lower Asian sales in the year to March 2027, and Endurance’s Indian income grew 7 points faster than its market. Douglas Insights expects Indian casters and Chinese groups building plants in Thailand and Indonesia to take most of the new tonnage before 2030, rather than Japanese incumbents.
How does the methodology turn 13.96 million tonnes into USD 42.73 billion?
How this report is built
- Every figure carries a confidence grade in the fact sheet above, and the working model ships with every licence.
- Six regional models sum to the global figure, with country tables in the Excel model.
- The next scheduled review of this study is May 2027.
- Licence holders receive it as a maintained tab in the Excel model.
Our methodology multiplies about 13.96 million tonnes of aluminum castings by a blended USD 3,060 per tonne to reach USD 42.73 billion in 2025, then grows tonnage 2.60% and price 1.42% a year.
The model covers 6 country rows, 5 process segments and 6 end uses, and uses 64 data points, 21 sourced and 43 modelled. Tonnage comes from country blocks: 8.70 million tonnes in China, 1.80 million in India, 1.29 million in Japan, 1.10 million in Southeast Asia, 0.62 million in South Korea and 0.45 million in the rest of the region. Arithmetic: 13.96 million tonnes x USD 3,060 = USD 42.73 billion; USD 42.73 billion x (1.0260 x 1.0142)^10 = USD 63.59 billion. Tonnage reaches about 14.33 million in 2026 and 18.05 million in 2035.
Three cross-checks agree. First, the regional value equals the Asia Pacific row of our worldwide model, USD 42.73 billion in 2025, USD 44.46 billion in 2026 and USD 63.61 billion in 2035, at the same 4.06% rate, which is 57.8% of the worldwide USD 73.92 billion. Second, our 13.96 million tonnes is 61.7% of the worldwide 22.64 million, close to the value share once lower regional prices are allowed for. Third, Chinese tonnage of 8.70 million sits 3.9% below the 9.05 million tonnes of aluminum and magnesium castings the China Foundry Association counted, a gap that, in our view, matches magnesium’s share. AI tools help draft the text and automated checks test the arithmetic and links; the Douglas Insights research desk chooses the sources, builds the model and approves publication, as our editorial standards explain.
